If we need an FGC Ambassador then I couldn't pick a much better candidate than you James. The smile you put on my face deserves to be worldwide.

I think we really are the first Global-minded generation and a lot of this is because we had early internet - before international boundaries were built into it. It's still important to have that! And the FGC is one of the few really strongly independent branches of humanity that are still very global in nature; where social media has been sectioned off with country-code extensions and filtering. We're all understanding that we're not the fucked up ones; we're a common resistance to these old status quos that just aren't holding up to time.

Reminds me of bands catching shit for playing in apartheid Africa back in the day. You have to compartmentalize a lot mentally to get through a life.

James I think you're mistaken, people use social media as much as any other country, they just don't use the western ones. The youth are more liberal in things ilke LGBT for sure, but it doesnt mean they are against the gov, or not patriotic and proud of china, they're not going to topple the gov, they support the gov a lot more than most citizens, and thats not because lack of info, its because their lifes and their parents lives have been transformed from the joint efforts of the gov and the people. How else do you lift 1 billion out of poverty and have a 500 million middle class?

Of course. But it has allowed for a bit more alternative views than before. The whole MeToo movement that even happened in China is something that wouldn’t have happened in the past. But that doesn’t mean that people like Shuai Peng still don’t “disappear” when they call out a government official. As I said in the video, it’s all baby steps. Gotta start somewhere.

@@UltraChenTV Growing up in China, I've always felt like LGBT stuff is just normal, sure they can't get married but no one really bats an eye, as you know people(men, women) can hold hands in public with the same gender and its normal. Also did you know the most famous talk show host in China, 金星, is a out of closet transgender, and she is universally loved by all chinese, old or young. It's been like this for a while. Not sure about Peng, but Jack Ma "disappearing" and then reappearing becomes all the rage, while in China, people know he fucked up, he tried to create a financial platform to do predatory loans on younger people while giving all the risk to national banks, and that will start a financial crisis so they stopped the IPO of ant financial , to locals, that's good. Billionaires get slapped around all the time, unlike some places where they can buy out gov officials. Tons of gov officials get reported and get arrested, and people LIKE that. there are repercussions for corruption vs NONE, look at Nancy Pelosi lol. Why are the clintons and obamas worth hundreds of millions?

Hey, just to be fair, I think politics is every bit as fucked up here in the States as anywhere, if not moreso. Haha. I don’t even TRY to defend our government and all the shady shit that happens here. I’m glad to hear LGBTQ is fine in China, but it was less about that than the sexual abuse that spurred the Chinese MeToo movement, if I’m not mistaken. All I was trying to say is that globalization and youth are key to reforming any type of government. There are reasons why even here in the States a politician like Ocasio-Cortez gained so much popularity and backing by the youth. She represents a culture that most politicians do not represent nor acknowledge nor understand. So having more global ideas and having a country’s youth be more outspoken I think helps a lot of countries. I speak a lot on China also because I am Chinese, and people know that I am very proud of my Chinese background. So I feel like I can talk about them in a way that doesn’t come off as being racist. Info speak about Middle Eastern or even, say, African or Russian cultures, it may be easy for people to write me off as just being racist. It’s very tricky to talk about.

@@UltraChenTV Oh definitely not calling you a Racist James, I've watched you commentate for 15+ years now so I'm a fan. I just think that even a lot of Chinese overseas are not as aware of nuances happening in China. Myself included, I immigrated to Canada as a kid and lived/worked mostly there, but my wife and I came back to China/taiwan(she's tw) couple years ago and as much as we hear/talk to our relatives, visited for vacation yearly, living here really opened our eyes. We traveled about 80% of china via HSR last year and this year, from the east coast to Yunnan, from the North in mongolia to Xinjiang, and everything in between. What we experienced is definietly outside the scope of what we get on social media, news, even our own friends/family, or english speaking chinese citizens would allow us to see. To your point that the youth movement/demographic changes are influencing overall culture and politics, definitely true. I agree there. I just think it's not all in "one direction", i.e. china-tw stuff, the youth today are more beligerent on both sides. I was the last generation to think of taiwan as the 宝岛 and see them as brothers/sisters, and that peace should be preserved. but the 90s and beyond are basically like, by any means necessary, those tw people are not our kin anymore. And I can argue its a chicken-egg effect that those in tw call racist names to chinese and the de-sinocization of education has caused a lot of animosity. To the point that the CPC are the doves, if China was a democracy today, every candidate who runs will have a platform of promising taking over taiwan tomorrow and bombing the fuck out of japan to avenge our ancestors. The people in the 60-80s are actually way more friendly to the west/japan, because that was a period of learning and realizing they were inferior, but this new generation is full of confidence and they sense the animosity from western media/leaders. Nothing to do with gaming of course, I think gaming (as evident by black myth wukong) is something that is politically independent and can be used to bring people together.
