The simple answer to your title is YES, and by an absolute mile. Her performance of 'My Way' was my favourite, but all 3 were great. Her vocals are just something else. Mindblowing, goosebumps, reduced to tears...I can't get over how good she is!

Innocent lost because of 2 reasons: he is already an established star. Having made his professional debut in a production of Porgy and Bess, the tenor has gone on star in multiple productions, most notably in Carmen at the London Coliseum at the same time he was on BGT. A lot of people don’t like opera, so it doesn’t strike them emotionally like other music. And before you say Sydnie was also a professional, she had some roles in plays and cruise ship shows, but was not currently working in the business like Innocent was. BGT was basically her last gasp to make a name for herself.

That's useful background information. You're right about the general public not being as big on Opera as other genres. So we're saying it was a way to give her a shot at being a star? I'm sure she would've liked to win it on 100% merit. She's still a good singer, I suppose

No, it wasn't given to her

May be you need to listen to her audition of tomorrow and her semi-final song of my way

you spent half the song trying to figure out who she reminded you of and not listening to her lol Sydnie is amazing

I think the reason is you weren't really listening... you spent half the song trying to think of an actress name then interrupted the video with your revelation...

You missed her other performances, so have no idea how the public mood was here. All her songs were brilliant, connecting with the audience, and this one was the most versatile I thought. On reflection you may change your mind, but you're welcome to your opinion. Besides that final, long note with the perfect ending for it, she was pitch perfect throughout with variations of tone and twice hitting truly difficult notes, not quite an octave apart. The last sign of why she walked away with it from her very first song, was that persistent applause, at the end: the audience knew she was the best, an English artist bringing compassionate English art to everyone's delight.

She's way more powerful a singer than Celine Dion, much more like Whitney Houston or Shirley Bassey.

Interesting reaction to Sydnie Christmas's performance. Unlike many that can be found on the internet, yours was clear, objective and enlightening. There are no arguments against facts. Well done!

I also thought Innocent was very good, and I have worked with him at ENO. I can see why Sydnie won, because of the way she connected with the audience, and made her performances so intimate. Nessun Dorma is tricky, because it’s a really emotional song, and most people have heard fabulous renditions of it. The bar is really high. Innocent sang it beautifully, and vocally he was very accurate, but I felt given his experience he would have done better to increase his dynamic range (start softer and build more, for example) and to be more expressive with his emotion. However I still thought he deserved to finish higher than he did.

I'll admit it was clear the audience and judges loved her haha. Might've been something about her backstory? Simon touched on it briefly in his feedback

@@KanekiKojo she didn’t have a backstory which was so refreshing. No poor me, just an amazing personality and that special magic that makes a star. You can’t learn it, you have to be born with it. Interesting contrast to find out that Innocent (who was very good, I love opera) does have a professional opera background as he did have a sob story about lack of professional opportunity. We watched all the contestants, every performance and there was no contest. Before you leave you mind permanently shut take the time to fairly watch Sydnie’s performances in order. If you aren’t thinking young Barbara Streisand after her audition (yes she is that inevitability a star) you aren’t giving it an unbiased chance.

We all have personal preferences. Over the Rainbow wasn't my favorite of the 3, but Sydnie definately deserved to win. She has an amazing voice and she's funny and humble. Calls her win luck, which has nothing to do with why she won. I've watched many reactions from vocal coaches and people like yourself. Technically, her rendition was pitch perfect. If you haven't watched her auditon of Tomorrow, you're missing out on why she became so popular and her rendition of My Way gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it.

Ahh that's probably what carried her over the finish line then

@@KanekiKojoIt didn't carry her over the finish line! No-one else stood a chance, for she left all other contestants stranded in the dust. She is one with the best four ladies who are or have been: Whitney, Celine, Dame Shirley, Liza Minnelli, and now Sydnie, too. You will hear lots more of her, for years to come. This very weekend, she let it be known also via her online platform, she's recording her 3 BGT and other songs in Prague, for her first album, due out 20 Sep, before her UK tour of 15 theatres in Oct. Just the beginning.....

She got 27 percent of the vote. You didn't come in with an open mind - that's why you didn't feel it. You also need to see her other performances to have some perspective..

Innocent didn't even make the last three, Sydnie won with 27% of the final vote way clear of who came second. I get the vibe you only did this to have a dig, you made your mind up before watching.
