We call the mix on site trucks here in Florida, concrete on call trucks. The slab crew was good about trying to catch the "self leveling mud", that driver deserved to be terminated. Sometimes with those setups, the potash and lye doesn't mix well. I've seen it a few times in my 44 years. Blistering and flaking. As far as the slab crew is concerned, they look like almost all the concrete crews in Florida, and most know what they're doing. I wouldn't have a problem hiring them at all. Sorry for the bumps in the road. Love ya'll ❤️

I agree. Whoever judged these guys by "LOOKS" is shallow. Looked like laid back"Good Ole Country Boys" to me, but they knew what they were doing. Ridiculous to judge that way. I blame the mix more than anything. That stuff was certainly soupy.

If these concrete guys really had so much experience, they would have stopped the truck pouring the concrete, because they saw it wasn't mixed correctly, but they didn't. And furthermore, if you pour concrete under the sun, you have to cover it with plastic sheeting and keep it wet for new days in order to have it dry at the correct speed.

@mikeroth3628Ай бұрын
I’ve been doing it 24 years. What’s happening to the top of the concrete is called scaling it’s because the finishers got on it too early didn’t allow all the bleed water to come out trapped it in between the top layer of finish concrete in the bottom, it’s only going to get worse and it should’ve been saw cut Every 8 ft.² and it’s called a jiffy mixer that mixes on site and the only thing they changed in the cement dust is there allowed to add a percentage of lime dust to the Portland cement instead of using fly Ash or slag as a filler
@w0wvaАй бұрын
Absolutely the only way to correct this the right way is remove this old pour and redo completely. You see, a wet pour weakens the entire thickness of the concrete. You're just seeing the beginning of what will happen in 6 months to a couple years. This will crack and start decaying and turn to sand. You can do what you feel best, but I will guarantee you that would never EVER pass a core test, even to the minimum standards.
@timwilliams849Ай бұрын

I agree, start over with new concrete. I would never cut the top off and salvage it. 10 years from now if you have problems it's gonna be more difficult and expensive. That slab was built pole barn style anyway and not designed for much weight. One time I jacked part of a house up off a slab over a whole garage. Removed all the concrete in the garage area. Then poured a new slab designed by a structural engineer. Then we dropped the house back down onto the new slab. Wasn't an easy feat. I would pour a new slab..

@TheCrockers in this scenario when it starts pouring out like soup you would stop the truck and tell them it's too wet and you need a new truck. Jason, Good morning I am 71 years old here now but I do remember back in the day I had a cement slab poured and it was sloping toured the house you could see it with the eye. After three months still nothing done. I told them I was going to turn them in, fall was coming and I didn't want water in the house. Ok when it was all said and done they had to pour elmer's glue on top of the slab and then add two inche's of cement at least. The glue was to make the cements stick together that was very important Now I am not sure how they do it today its been 30 years but I do know there is a wrong and right way to repour cement over an existing cement. Good luck and God Bless.

I would have them add fiberglass to the mix The way they do that is when the trucks are mixing it, they throw a bag or two of fiberglass Into the truck it breaks up the bag they could add that for your inconvenience again. Basically all they do is throw it into the truck after the cement is in the truck and it turns around and breaks the bag apart, which mixes thoroughly with the concrete very strong concrete.

I would get it completely redone. And they need to pay it all. This is the foundation of your house. It needs to be done correctly. I know that the piping is annoying but nothing can replace the foundation. You will only have more issues down the line. Btw, since your guy said it was ok to pour on clay and we have clay i checked. And pouring concrete on clay is not allowed where i am. Because clay contracts when it gets dry and they you have holes under the foundation and it cracks. We have had tons of gravel set in order to mitigate the clay issues. You should ask someone else for the second opinion. I hope it works well for you. Building a house is very annoying and exhausting. I am in the same boat with ours 😂

60 years in commercial construction. It's known as slump. Should no more than about a #5 slump. There are local testing labs that come on site and test the slump coming out of the truck. However some concrete men know how to test. That pour was way too wet. Usually when ordering reddy mix the slump can be designated to the concrete supplier. The truck will arrive with that mix. You should not add a lot of water or you mess up the desired slump.

I was a rescue/fire officer on a major construction site and saw some site shed floors rehabilitated as the concrete was not good. They used a flame to shatter the crappy surface, spalling is what I think it’s called. The surface was left rough for the new layer to bond to. A self leveling compound was used so the finished product looked good and seemed to take the traffic. Still, hope all goes well. Looking forward to your next steps when you can do them.

I am very sorry this happened to you two. Unfortunately I would have to say, have it completely ripped out and redone. I am speaking from the heart as well as from past experience. 18 yrs ago I had a very large in ground swimming pool built buy a pretty reputable pool building company. The sub contractor that pored the concrete decking around the pool did the exact same thing (concrete mix to wet) and at that time, I was talked in to settling for them just grinding it way down and redoing the surface. Well?.. The pool was finished and... It did look good for a few months.. but soon cracks and broken concrete started gradually appearing everywhere and 1 yr lader I began to absolutely realize just how big of a mistake me settling for the grinding/re-serface poor idea had been. To make an already long story shorter... Because of that as well as uther underlying issues, I ended up suing the company that built my pool. Happily, I was fortunate enough to recouped every penny that I paid for the entire pool. 3 yrs later, I did end up having to have the decking completely jack hammered out, some of the plumbing repaired and the concrete redone correctly. Now 14 yrs later after having it done right, it still looks brand new. Please guys.. 🙏 have them completely remove that slab and re-poor it correctly. I truly believe that unfortunately if you don't you will regret it most likely only months down the road.
