Did The Drag Strip Ruin My Turbo Toyota Pickup?

In this weeks video I fix everything that broke when I took my turbo Toyota pickup to the drag strip. I knew there were some issues but I had no idea how bad it really was! From the extremely cracked manifold to the spark plug that went through the engine I start to wonder if it's time to build an engine for this truck to get it back up to full health, or if I just send this engine till it lets go!

The rods and pistons from a s/c previa (2tz-fze) are a direct replacement in the 2rz-fe. Lower compression and beefy forged rods can really wake up a forced induction engine! Crank also swaps but i don't think there is any benefit strength wise.

That's good info to know, I have a built engine going in my corolla with quality rods!

The manifold is twisted due to welding.. pull the manifold off and super heat it to straighten it . Then surface the head side flange....

My dad has the same truck! 220k. Still running well despite burning oil like mad.

Sweet vid! Keep em coming! What is your base fuel psi? Noticed your lambda scale was .60-70 even before boost. You still running 02 sensor plugged in? Almost 300 horse and 350+ ft/lb of torque is whatsup🤙🏼

Maybe try just resurfacing the manifold face so you have better contact

That’s the plan, I’ll probably take it to the machine shop

When you first checked compression on one of the first videos of this truck, when you changed the Head Gasket, is there a need to mill/rectify the head in a shop? I remember you checked valve clearance lash and checked compression but you just threw in a new gasket and it kinda fix it?

I would always suggest to get the head surfaced at a machine shop, that’s always the best practice to make sure the head gasket lasts as long as possible.

What are your AFR's under boost?
@redlineranch.
@redlineranch. 4 ай бұрын
I use lamda, but I’m usually around 12.5-12.7 AFR but the last time I was there in one run it went lean and I didn’t notice right away it was at 1.0 lamda which is like 14.7 AFR, I’m all but certain that’s what did it in

@@redlineranch. Yeah that sounds like what did it, same thing happed to my ranger. I put some large holes in my pistons. What was your highest PSI?
@redlineranch.
@redlineranch. 4 ай бұрын
@@lucasmatthews8552 I was running about 15-16psi when that happened, I think, it was dark and my boost guage doesn’t have a backlight, so it could have been a little more or less, but that’s what it made on the dyno with the same setup

In vehicles I've tuned, 12.5-12.7 is too lean for a turbo under WOT. NA sure, but under turbo and running boost you need to run richer. Unless there's a reason these older engines can run leaner, you may want to richen a bit which will give you more wiggle room to dial in timing + boost.
