I think this fits with Holmes' philosopy. If we have a need, or identify a type of player we like, take them if they are there. Especially if the position in "this" draft is weaker than usual. So, we got RB and then LB in round 1(weaker positions). we can get DB/DL in the second round, where we have 3 picks, because those positions are strong in this draft. and probably get a guard too. I don't mind it. I do question the value of a high 1st round pick on a WR3/RB2 combo, is that enough for the 12 pick? I guess we'll see. If he performs as RB1/WR2, sure, but even if he becomes rb1/wr3, I say a bit of a reach, but not an Ebron type groaner. Especially when you factor in the future. Lions are tyring to build a perennial playoff team. So, he's cleary the swift replacement in a year, same with the Campbell pick. And if you notice, all the "future" picks are also talent upgrades if they hit. (Jamo, Campbell, Joseph, Pascal, Levi -who might be a miss due to health)

I think people are underestimating the impact the Jameson Williams suspension had on the Lions draft strategy. 6 game suspension after a full year out for ACL. By game 7 the dude will have been out of football for almost 2 years. No way he's coming on full strength until at least game 9. The lions went after free agency with him on the roster since day 1. They had a huge hole to address in the draft. And taking Gibbs (who would have been gone by pick 15) they addressed it in a VERY clever way. They added another speedster explosive offensive weapon that wasn't a WR and wasn't a stop gap. And one that will synergize exponentially with Jameson when he comes back.

As a cowboy fan I have commented often how impressed I have been w Lions front office. Incredible off-season w an improving team. Now last night tells me they still make asinine choices trying to hit big. You were one good draft away from playoffs this year. You didn’t have to reach. So much help was set up for you last night. Twice.
@russdadda Жыл бұрын
They only had a few players this draft that really left an impression on them. Overall they still did improve instantly whether people like it or not.

It's just dumb. I think the guy said it earlier. He's a mismatch. That's like this draft having cj2k there and they're like oh no let's wait because he's a running back...no you take him and you understand it's gonna be a matchup nightmare and limits the resources required to make your offense run. Also you work within your strategy...just think about it. It's Goff right. Well Goff went to the Superbowl how did he do that. He had a running back that could do the most with wideouts that can catch and one that could burn. Sound familiar?
@buckbenelli8 Жыл бұрын
Could have had Bijon and Jack. They better hit on number 3 in the second round or they blew it. They need defense, CB or DT.

If you was going to draft a RB in the first place why the hell would you sign Montgomery!? Running game is nice don't get me wrong, but you know what would be great?? Fucking improving our Defense on both sides of the ball!!!

If you want to see his highlights. kzbin.info/www/bejne/naLNe4mlar2YlZKBade me fall in love with him, he has crazy acceleration through pockets. I know this is a reach, but when you see him make his first cut in the backfield and explode, it reminds me of Barry.

Brad Holmes said “Bijian and Jahmyr are TWO different flavors” they both got the sauce but only of them was fitting for what he’s cooking. He held on to the 6th to collect extra 2nd round picks. He’s right this is a chess move.
@jleif7736 Жыл бұрын
He also said he heard buzz around teams in the 15-16 range being hot on GIbbs.. So if other teams were looking to pick him not even 3-4 spots later, clearly it wasn't a reach.. Also a very prolific NFL Prospect analyst on CBS only gave out 2 A+ draft grades today, and one of them was the Lions... That Jack Campbell pick at 18 is going to impress all Lions fans, trust me. I genuinely think he will have a better first fully year than Aidan did, which is saying a lot.

Newsflash - no one wants to ruin their abilities trying to help a losing franchise win. E.G. - Swift. Swift didn't want to play hard for the Lions, and neither will Jahmyr. Look at the last 10 RBs the Lions have picked. All busts. Swift wasn't happy draft night - no celebration when Lions picked him. If you lip read what Jahmyr ssays when Lions picked him, to family he says: "it's OK." In other words, who the bleep wants to be drafted by a losing franchise. LIke Swift, this guy will fake injuries to preserve his body aiming for a trade later. Put down the blue kool aid. Lions suck. Nothing will change.

Junk pick! Holmes screwed the pooch with this one.. i dont hate the player, but the trade back IF THIS is what they were thinking. Seems like holmes was trying to be smarter than the NFL and just like with all their other stupid, strange, confusing picks over my 50 yrs, this is one of the most egregious bcuz EVWRYONE knows and sees what the lions main problem last yr was! Note: NONE OF THEM THOUGHT, THEY ARE A 2ND RD RB (who was taken 12th overall) AWAY! Do you know why none of them said that Holmes?🤦♂️🤷♂️ In SOL i trust i guess?

No way the farthest he would’ve fallen is to the Bengals at 28. Chargers could’ve taken him at 21. Now that said I think he would’ve been available at 18, but obviously Holmes and Dan really wanted Jack Campbell so they decided to take Gibbs at 12.
