CCR recorded this in 1970. In 1986 this song was adapted for a California raisin commercial. Still to this day every time I hear this I picture those purple grapes dancing to this tune.

In his autobiography John Fogerty wrote he was shopping for clothes and heard Marvin Gaye's version on the radio and knew he could turn it into a guitar jam.

CCR has an unusual combination of qualities. They can do totally different types of music, with very different styles and tempos, yet it is always unmistakable as CCR! A lot of the distictiveness is John Fogerty's unique voice. Perhaps the most distinctive voice in Rock. Fogerty's singing is filled with emotion, sadness, anger, regret, and he can catch you by surprize, forcing you to think about the lyrics. Love Fogerty's high notes, snarls, wails, always done with integrity.

creedence is probably the most underappreciated and underrated 60s band. they had hit after hit. including the standards "proud mary" and "fortunate son." the critics hated them but the public loved them. they appeared at woodstock too. (cut out of the film and the album though. as a few other bands were.) on the album "cosmos factory" (1970) this song was over 11 minutes long. with a wonderful, kick ass guitar solo that lasts about 8 minutes long. the record label shortened the song to about 3 1/2 minutes and released it as a single against the band's wishes. CCR remains one of my favorite bands. side two of their album "bayou country" is one of the best album sides in r&r history.

@@kennethohnemus3192 ... its hard to believe that CCR was originally a part of the great san francisco musical renaissance of 1967. they were so different than those other bands. i'll always love "the dead," "jefferson airplane," janis joplin, 'moby grape" and others from that region and era but CCR offered a direction different from the others that made them stand out. did they invent "country rock?" they don't even get credit for that.

@@svenrb... yep. the format pop songs fall into. which is why i only listened to fm radio while growing up. it was geared towards a more mature listener and a less commercial content. i discovered long ago that most good songs were on albums and never released as singles. not today. it seems american culture has reverted back to promoting immaturity and corporate commercialism. thanks to the corporate take over of the internet commercialism has corrupted EVERYTHING! and the sad part most people today praise and embrace this mass psychosis.

John Fogerty just has that amazing voice. I think he's also the only artist in music history that's been sued for sounding too much like himself. In 1985, John Fogerty was sued for releasing a song that allegedly ripped off another he'd written 15 years earlier - and it was a battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court.
