I nearly got my worlds invite just from locals as I bubbled points at EUIC and Liverpool (I’m a senior) I managed to get 280 points just from the global challenge and locals so this sucks and I might stop as I cannot go abroad for tournament 😢 this will really affect me.

Hopefully your local scene will be unaffected and the organizers can figure something out. But I’m afraid there are going places where this just won’t be possible. all we can do now is wait and see sadly

There’s a card store near me that has multiple VGC TOs and I was only able to qualify for worlds because they were able to run more than 1 MSS per store. We could do 4 per quarter.

I'm from Chicago, there a lot of venues that have multiple TOs running events out of it. Hopefully, we'll still have a good amount of locals or maybe some card shops can start hosting events

I actually go to some of them. I almost made top cut in one of them, but I made a bad move that made me in 6th of 16 people, I dunno. Been a while since either happened.

As someone who is part of the growth to VGC in 2024, I personally like the change. If there are less locals that give out CP then I think thats good because there is now more scope for people to host NON-CP events. Events where you go to a local, play 4-5 rounds and then small cut bracket. If theres no CP then its likely players will come to enjoy it instead of chasing points. I think thats a great change for the local scene. I get that it disrupts current players and my opinion won't be shared by longplaying vgc players. But I think this disruption is good for growth players like me. The current local scene is quite toxic in my area and hard to attend events due to CP chasing people. We had a tournament start get delayed because they were waiting for someone that was chasing CP for worlds. The whole idea that the events are just an entry fee tax on growth players while top players farm CP is pretty toxic. So yeah, very happy for the change.

This doesn't work. Non CP events always have little to no turnout compared to CP events.

@@xscorpzzau1223 thanks for the feedback scorpz. I'm not sure if you're Syd or melbs but it's funny because I'm melb local and the scene is really hard to get in to here. So the current system doesn't really work either. I'm quite keen to do non cp events, and if the big dogs don't want to come, that's fine. I find it hard to believe only ~20-30 people in all of Melbourne own Pokemon scarlet or violet, so I think non cp events might be a different target market.

@FredH0me then Melbourne VGC scene is the biggest and best in Australia, and extremely active. I'm not sure how anyone down there could say it's hard to get into, are you checking for events or involved in the discord?

I was going to try to get the travel award next year . (I’m a Canadian senior player). The locals are organized well and it’s good practice for me to improve on play. So I’m just frustrated about this.

I unfortunately live in an area that doesnt have locals so closest ones are about 2hrs away and on top of that we dont get many other events besides the 3 reigonals we get now. It does seem to be getting harder and harder get CP outside of winning the regionals, which in a way is a good and bad thing in my opinion. Good in the sense that worlds will be more competitive with a smaller pool being able to make it, but bad in a sense that it does make it harder for those to earn points that already have a scarce number of events being run. Still not gonna give up on getting a worlds invite someday. Its just gonna be more worth it when it happens

If I was them, I also wouldnt want a bunch of people who never top cut a big event getting enough points to go to worlds. It does make it more competitive even if it makes some people who never top cut angry.

I personally hate it that someone can earn points from the previous year that won't even be under the same rule set/pokemon season. You shouldn't be able to earn points from pokemon scarlet and violet regulation G which to worlds using the next pokemon registration which is stupid.

I think you’re making a huge assumption there. VGC never used BD/SP or Legends Arceus. Just because a new game is coming out doesn’t mean it’s the new VGC game. Also, if it does become the new game that would mean no one should earn any points for half the year, just sitting around waiting for it to come out. Nah

I get the idea tho, it's Strange to be earning points under an old ruleset imo (even though this has been the done thing every season except for 2019 and 2023, and even those had a couple majors on the old rules)

@woodyg5756 Sorry I just mean new formate. I don't even personally like it that they change which pokemon are legal within the year. Before 2021 you would have the same pokemon throughout the year and worlds would be a showcase of that.

Yeh this makes me miss year long formats, although I think anyone good enough to earn their invite incredibly early, (before format changes) is good enough to play whatever the format at worlds may be. Although I see where you are coming from about qualifying through a different format where you are playing at the world championships
