Yes, they kinda go crazy with the whole ‘tough love’ concept, but they actually did have some sound advice in each episode. AND I love that the show does focus on health. They did not try to make their guests ‘hot’ or lose as much weight as possible asap. It was like, hey, lose SOME weight and see how good you will feel.

That's honestly what I see body positivity is. It's not handwaving away the issues that come along with obesity, but hating yourself/insulting others doesn't help it any. That often leads into crash diets, which leads to binging, leading to no long-term weight loss. Best to take it slow and steady, become healthier incrementally and learn not to hate yourself in the meantime. 19 here, hoping I can get myself healthier soon.

@@trafficcontrol2420the problem is it doesn't work for some people. It depends on the main reason why the person is fat. If they became fat due to some mental health issues or eating disorders, then usually a harsher approach will actually do them worse. Otherwise we wouldn't even bother to talk to you..😂 I'll never forget when my aunt bought me some clothes for b-day, after she hadn't seen me in quite some time during which I gained around 5kilos. 11:50 this is exactly what helped my weight loss process! I used to watch youtube everytime I ate. I couldn't eat without watching a video cuz I'd get so bored. I cold turkey quit doing that. I only ate in the kitchen looking at and hearing only my food and nothing else. This made me only eat when I'm hungry. Because who wants to sit in the kitchen do absolutely nothing but eat? I was sooo bored but also VERY conscious of my food. The taste of every single bite! I wondered how in the hell I could pile a whole lot of food in my plate and finish it all by the time I watched a 15 min video. I get so full and so bored by the half of it and just say "ugh, I'll eat the rest later. I just wanna go look at my phone or do literally anything else." I noticed I was a pickier eater than I thought I was. I noticed some food give me inflammation and diarrhea so now I don't eat them. And my gut health is wayyy better for it. I feel more clean? I used to love chips but now the thought of eating some and getting my fingers smell like sweaty socks for days feels gross. I tell myself maybe later. I try not to harshly restrict anything but I eat less processed food and more protein. I heard protein helps ypu keep full for longer and I'm sure I could eat some more. I feel wayyy LESS GASSY and I get less diarrhea. I feel more fit. I don't feel so sluggish as much anymore. It's been 2 months and I hope to keep it for life. because all I do is literrally just pay attention to what I'm eating. I awoid screens. That's all.

As a 14 year old girl that lost 20kg (from 80-60) in the last 4,5 months I find your videos could be very helpfull. I sadly found your channel after I already got my stuff together. It started because I was doing research and a project on personality, that helped me become more open minded and started analyzing my behavior- I found out that my over eating stemmed from the fact that I was just sad, bored and playing video games all day. Luckily this “enlightening “ happened just before summer break so I could put my full effort into loosing weight. I first started with getting myself busy and being productive ( I personally feel a lot happier and emotionally “satiated” when I’ve had a productive day and can go exhausted to bed) so I was helping my dad construct our house all the time except when I had to eat (switched my old stuff for low calorie high volume food ) and also I started playing tennis every other day so I had 700-900 active calories daily. When school started it first didn’t really impact me, just switched out construction work to studying more (sadly my active calories dropped😢) but I’ve recently had a little bump in the road- I got sick, so no tennis but this was still ok cause I was putting all my energy this week into a biology seminar, next week I went to school but still no tennis but still working on seminar but I started eating really poorly for like 3 weeks and gained 2 kg, but I got it under control and already lost those 2kg back. Also I started going to the gym with my friend half a week ago ( i think it’s gonna substitute tennis because it’s getting cold and tennis is really expensive tbh and I don’t think I can suport tennis, gym and getting good grades and placing in competitions )

As someone trying to work out to be a better swimmer and athlete, this is really interesting! Sometimes someone is mean, but deep down they want to motivate you for the sake of long term health. The "boredom eating" thing is so real. I gained 25 lbs in college from stress eating and when I came home for the holidays, my mom said some things about how I was too chubby for most of my clothes and how I looked unhappy and sleep deprived. i thought she was just being mean, but that was really the wake up call I needed to not take 18 credit hours so that I could sleep and have more time to go for hikes and bike rides and swim workouts.

OK a Brit here. You need to put in context that when this was made shows line Jeremy Kyle were on daytime TV (Think Springer Lite). There were a lot of shows where hard honesty was the mode de jour. These programmes no longer exist following suicides. Buffet restaurants popped up everywhere from 2001 onwards, what is better than 10000kcal for £10? I can tell by the way their street looks it is council / social housing - A trip to the buffet is the norm and shopping at Farmfoods buying UPF... I cannot walk into a Farmfoods, but you can buy two 15" pizza for the price of a bag of salad, they sell 24 packs of soda on a 2-4-1, and the shelves above the freezers are cram packed with unhealthy snack options. But, I recognise it makes food affordable. Also, for those that don't know the weird English body weight measurement of stone (we don't use it anywhere else) is 14 pounds.

I lost 93 lbs since 2019. My biggest wake up call was my husband and I went on a vacation in CA. We did a lot of walking and it was so hard for me. The second was we wanted to go snorkeling and needed a wet suit. None of them fit and I looked at myself in mirror and didn't like what saw. The 3rd was getting my blood results and everything was high. So I took a honest look at my lifestyle and started working on some of my bad habits. Than those got better and looked at other bad habits I needed to break. I learned as I went. If my weight loss slowed or stopped I adjusted my diet. It's been slow but effective. One thing that a lot of people do and I did as well in the past was give up if I fell off my diet or hit a bump in the road. Don't do that push through.

I believe this show is many years old hence the humor there is very harsh. Things and attitude in the UK towards big people changed a lot since then (for better or worse lol), today this would've been immediately cancelled or better even - wouldn't be allowed to be even aired in the first place. Love your attitude towards obesity Kiana, the only way to deal with this massive (no pan intended) issue is not self pity, but humor pointed at oneself as a protective mechanism, so that no one else can hurt you by telling you something, that you cannot tell yourself in front of these very people. Been there, done that. And although for many years since then I have been in the best shape I have every been in my entire life, the scars my body bares from those times (stretch marks, loose skin, body dysmorphia, low self esteem and list goes on and on and on) will never let me forget what and who I was. Keep on with your fantastic videos, often addressing very difficult topics with humility and respect. All the best.

As a Brit, this sort of scathing humour is very much a thing with British TV. I definitely agree that it can go over the top on sensitive topics, and it can border on bullying, especially since I think a lot of viewers internalise it more than they realise. It's fine when it's the Come Dine With Me narrator absolutely spitting daggers at Mick's bangers and mash but maaaybe a little less with this. 😅

Another fan of Summer Heights High!! Hell yeah! *fist bump* the Brits can be blunt and it makes for good TV, especially when Steve has that particularly brutal delivery of his lines. I take it as intentionally over the top and not particularly serious. Contrast the filler bits where he talks so acidly about the fatties, and the bits where he actually speaks with the people in question, like when he gives them advice. He can be gentle with them. I think with this particular show, the production crew were good about informing the family of what would be shown and the kind of language that would be used, and it seems the family were on board and took it in good humour as long as it stayed there. Tarnya kicking off could have been in response to anything, including a prompt to do so. Thanks for the video, Kiana, you always bring great insights to these kinds of media!

I used to love this show, I was overweight at the time and used to try and implement some of the strategies like portion size and there was one suggesting using smaller spoons as it took longer to eat and seemed more satifying. I am a brit and I miss this kind of TV, British people do this to one another, in England best friends always have the most insulitng nicknames for each other, its how we used to be. It might seem cruel but it's part of what helped me me lose weight, I was Big T for quite a while in my youth, I hated the name and now it's a funny joke as I'm skinny.

No! Not hurtful, not bullying at all, the opposite!!! It's deliberately taking the sting OUT of the words bullies use! We Brits KNOW that Americans don't understand this humour - but we do. All participants gladly agreed to this light-hearted banter ahead of time. What's really damaging is always walking on eggshells around fat people and never being truthful. These Brits know they are getting free help from an expert, and they also know they are fat, and are not in denial! Obviously this approach worked - they did brilliantly. Fat Brits are not like fat Americans. Most will happily say, "I'm as fat as a whale and I need to lose weight", just like we heard these participants do. We don't do prickly victim behaviour... we are far too down-to-earth.

4 months ago I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. My HbA1c (blood glucose) was 73 mmol/mol. Since then I have moved to a mainly wholefoods diet with little processed food and no UPF. I eat many organic things where possible. I eat strictly pumpernickel for bread, no refined carbs, no potatoes, ZERO added sugar and control carb portions to around 50g per meal. I enjoy cheese, fatty natural yoghurt, whole milk and snack on nuts, which keeps my fat intake at a good level. Kimchi, sauerkraut and yoghurt help my microbiome. I have also done a morning workout (exercise bike and weights) 4-5 times a week and have taken 500mg of Metformin twice a day. In 4 months I have lost 17.5Kg/2St 10lbs/38.5lbs and my blood test results today show a HbA1c of 36mmol/mol, which is amazing!
