I dont get the experiment with the Plumbing company like it seems kind of pointless. Imagine everyday at work the canteen ONLY has bacon butty and then the one day you come in they suddenly have two new and very interesting dishes. Id try out the new meal just to give myself the option of choice instead of choosing the same sandwich i'll probably be getting for years to come from the canteen. Like wouldnt everyone???

This show actually helps so much if you have disordered thinking. People terrify me when they say “ I bare eat and I’m this size” and they’re like 15+ stone, but in reality they are actually gorging themselves and that explains the weight, it’s not just bad luck

If you’ve done a single course on diet and nutrition, clearly you know everything? As if. Thyroid, the master hormone regulator is actually extremely important for metabolic processes and can impact how the body uses food, stimulates hunger (hint, this is yet another hormone) and converts cholesterol into hormones. Leptin, grehlin, insluin all play a delicate balance in appetite and weight, screw one up and they are all a mess. If its just about eating calories, then how do you explain the weight gain caused by certain prescription medications? Why do people on steroids immediately gain weight? And certain antidepressants? This includes patients in confined settings who have no access to extra food? Maybe you need a course on biology and pharmacology to actually improve your knowledge of diet and nutrition. And that’s not even touching on the fact that everyone’s body releases differing amounts of insulin (the fat storage hormone) to different foods meaning a thin person without a metabolic disorder would release a small burst of insulin at the 45min mark post eating and it would quickly dissapate, yet someone else would generate 20x the same release that keeps going for two hours after a meal. This means that second person will continue to be storing all food intake as fat (removing glucose out of the circulatory system) and the other person would be using that meal for energy.
@1588chrissy
@1588chrissy 5 жыл бұрын
ron donnis the body clearly can produce its own energy - the process of gluconeogenesis is the very product allowing it to use components of the body (whether this be stored in the form of fat cells, amino acids, etc) to create glucose for use which is the basis of this. Otherwise the body would die when you stopped eating.

A lot of people are wrong. I was once one of them, saying it was because of "hormones and genetics". One friend challenged me: "write down every morsel of food you put in your gullet for a week, and you'll see it's purely calories in vs calories out". That night I made spaghetti. With the fatty minced meat, the cheese, and the big helping of pasta it came out to 2200 kCal. At the end of the week I averaged 3,700 kCal per day. I, too, thought I was smarter than the calories. I wasn't

I appreciate that, for once, this couple seems to be honest with themselves and make relatively little excuses for their behaviour. They admitted to eating fast food before the cameras started filming, and they seemed more than willing to identify their errors, take the feedback and make changes. I also liked how their food diaries were more or less normal, compared to some people on this show who claim to eat 1000 calories/day. Wishing them the best.

I was a secret eater. Or maybe not secret…but mindless. I ate healthy foods, but was grazing and put on weight. I started eating one meal a day so I could know I was not mindlessly eating. I eat a very balanced large meal and the weight is coming off. I think for people who do this, it can really help to try one meal a day or a very strict type of eating window of 4-8 hours. Everyone tells you to eat lots of small meals, but this was a disaster for me. I had no true idea how much I was eating.

I think that's a huge thing though, when Emma said she didn't cut out anything, just portioned better. Eating what you want is fine, so long as you stick to what you need to intake for the days as opposed to just eating mindlessly. When you have a takeaway or plan one, just remember that you're having it and make sure you don't pig out and eat less calorie-dense foods the rest of the day. It's takeaway day in my house tomorrow. Lunch and breakfast will be small because I want Chinese and I won't eat it all but because I don't want to gain weight and I want something unhealthy, I need to be smart about it.

It's often about the way food is dealt with in the home. I used to teach healthy eating in primary schools. Then you would have children who were given pastries for breakfast and a Pot Noodle for dinner. They would bring in lunch boxes full of crisps and chocolate biscuits. In one job we tried to work with the families to encourage healthy eating, trying to support cooking with healthy food etc and we had families where the adults weren't interested and where they drank energy drinks all day and McDonald's in the evening. You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

For some reason, this show recommends too many calories. I only need 1300 - 1800 calories a day, depending how active I am (I’m 157.5cm tall / 5 feet 2 inches tall). But they always recommend a woman has 2000 calories a day, no matter their height. With the men, it’s 2500 calories minimum. My brother only eats 1800 - 2300 calories, depending on the type of day he has (he is 170cm or 5 feet 7 inches tall). It’s very strange. I’m not sure if it’s because they want the participants to lose weight slowly or if they know that that’s more sustainable for them since they’re used to such a massive amount of food.

They blurred the graphic on his Coca-Cola hoodie when he went into the secret room (but they missed it at 12:10) and then made him take it off to film the rest of the confrontation. Little details, at least we know the surprise is real 🤷🏻‍♀️

A lot of their “experiments” have some clear design flaws with them. Food is definitely an economic decision as well. Faced with a free dessert bar, for example, I don’t know many graduate students who would pass on it. It’s more than just we are “gluttons”: we rarely take breaks during the workweek, we’re overworked, we aren’t entitled to vacations, and we’re underpaid. It’s stress and skipping meals because of (ironically) doing experiments. So some of their experiments don’t take the full picture into consideration. The one with the kids was solid because it’s true that if healthy decisions are the most convenient they’re easy to make.

I imagine she will be claiming benefits as a "single parent" so she will get money per week + housing & council tax benefits to pay for the flat she's in as there is no way his doormans wage can cover two lots of rent food bills etc.That's what I think anyway x

I just noticed the mushroom slicing at 7:28. All chefs use a big enough knife so the blade slides on the closed knuckles. You NEVER see chefs cutting produce against fingertips where you're really likely to get cut.

Its sad to see that these people actually thought they were eating healthily. It shows how important it is to educate on this subject. There is nothing wrong with an occasional take out, but to think its a healthy option because there is some veg on there, is simply not true.
