Which form is correct if I want to ask about the past in general: Have you managed to ship this order yet? or Did You shipped this order yet?
@TeacherMikeEnglish2 жыл бұрын
The first one. But some people would also ask "Did you ship it yet?" It's less correct, but VERY common.

Sir, This one also correct right Did you have your dinner?
@japontv1158 Жыл бұрын
So, when we use "Did" means the action is 100% impossible to do in this moment because is 100% past? In sentence with "Did" we can not use "have" but in sentence with "have" we can use "did"? Imagine is the morning, we don´t have breakfast yet, we can ask "Have you had breakfast?" (because still is possible to do it) but we can ask in the same context "did you have breakfast" if still is possible to it?
@TeacherMikeEnglish Жыл бұрын
Many native speakers would use "did you" but "have you" is grammatically a better choice.

@TeacherMikeEnglish Жыл бұрын
You will probably use past tense more often if you are simply telling a story about the past. However, if you are relating things to the present, then you will also use present perfect.

Helpful.. but how can I use them in other situations?
@TeacherMikeEnglish2 жыл бұрын
Those questions or those tenses? Just apply the same idea. Is it something that you think should be 100% in the past, or is it something that you think might still happen.

How about "Have you ever been in love?" This formula is not wrong is it? Then while at the Police station thay ask: "Did you point the gun at him?" "Have you ever pointed the gun at someone?" More: "Did you close the door?" "No I didn't" "Then go back and close it!" "Did you remember to call Mary?" "No I forgot" "Well.. I'll call her right now"
