There happens to be a hidden detail that links to Charles Dickens’ original novel. Just as the movie’s opening credits are beginning, Scrooge is seen walking down the street. As he does so, a guide dog spots him, yelps and quickly drags its owner away from him. This is a nod to a piece of description from the novel, in which Dickens wrote about how Scrooge’s temperament was so known in the city that “even the blinds’ dogs knew and avoided him”.

This version is often disregarded but it’s actually really brilliantly done. Edit: For those wondering why I say this one is disregarded, online articles I've read in the past that rate different versions only include live action Christmas Carols, and in my personal experience with these articles, I've found that many even explicitly say they don't wish to count any animated versions in their list because they're not "serious," which is just downright stupid to judge something just because it's not live action.

I’m surprise you didn’t say that it’s one of the few film versions which includes Ignorance and Want. They are two half starved children under Ghost of Christmas robes

I just wish the Ghost of Christmas Future hadn’t been this huge jump scare/action horror sequence. The terror of the character, is that it does nothing. Its presence alone is haunting enough.

Josh: I agree. I hate that "car chase" scene in this story. It's totally unnecessary and violates the spirit of the story.

I always wish this had been a live action film. I know why it wasn’t, and yes there were plenty of interesting ideas and effects done with the style, but seeing the behind the scenes made me realize I really just wanted to see the actors unimpeded by the uncanny animation

I knew this since, we had a school play a few years back and in the play one of the narrators said: even the blind mens dogs knew him (mr. Scrooge) and would wag their tails as though they said, no eye at all is better then an evil eye dark master. so when we watched the movie after going through the play we recognised the dog scene, still cant believe i remember that, probably because i was the Main character lol

Dag, I don't like The Polar Express much, either. To me, the stakes--believing in Santa Claus or not--are too shallow. In other movies like Miracle on 34th Street, believing in Santa is connected to deeper values like charity, generosity, brotherhood, or even justice. As I've said already, the "car chase" scene in this version of A Christmas Carol is distracting and unnecessary. It's also possible that I don't like this kind of animation. Oh, well.

The thing with the dog is also in the 1951 version with Alastair Sim. When Scrooge approaches near the beginning, the dog drags his owner away from Scrooge. In the last scene, before Tiny Tim appears running toward "Uncle Scrooge", Scrooge drops a coin in the blind man's cup and pets the dog, who is lying down contentedly.

Honestly I still prefer the older versions of this short story. This Disney remake felt over the top for me. Either way it’s amazing and has so many interesting, symbolic messages throughout.

It's actually a novella, with five chapters ("staves"). I'd say it's closer to a novel than to a short story.
