@shahxad65339 ай бұрын
Why does Tyler say that though?
@gigachadthegr88 ай бұрын
@@shahxad6533This quote does not serve the true purpose of what Tyler means. The proper quote is “Self-improvement is masturbation. Now self-destruction…” This quote highlights what Tyler signifies as one’s true self. The first part regarding self-improvement being like masturbation, is when one betters their livelihood for the sake of others approval. It’s like masturbation in that it will feel good for a second (ejaculation, people’s validation of your life) and then the feeling will vanish, leaving an empty void of nothingness. One will never be happy with what they do so long as they act in accordance with other people’s approval. However, when it comes to the second part regarding self-destruction, Tyler does not mean to say ‘fuck the world and do what you want, who cares for others or for your own improvement, your going to die anyways.’ What he meant - relating to the ‘self’ I discussed earlier - is that one must sometimes go through the uncomfortable trial and error of life in order to actually see any progress in one’s self. It’s unnerving and almost feels ‘destructive’ and that is because the person is ridding of their old self to facilitate the growth of a newly evolved individual. Now this does not mean necessarily ridding completely of one’s old self, but simply destroying the parts that did not serve the person and creating a new self that could in fact better serve humanity. Constantly challenging one’s self by attaining new skills, having daring experiences etc. will create a continual process of destruction and subsequent reconstruction of the person. This happens for example when one is learning a new language. The brain in fact creates new synapses in the creation of a new brain/self that can facilitate the new language learned. Therefore, Tyler is speaking about bettering one’s self from the internal (enlightenment, skills, mindset development), and disregards the external (consumer goods, people’s approval).

Oh, really? Someone on the internet thinks "Fight Club" was filmed in chronological order? That's cute. Let’s just ignore the basic logistics of film production and the mountains of evidence to the contrary. David Fincher and the crew must have had so much time on their hands to shoot every scene in perfect sequence. How novel! Maybe next they'll tell us that the actors actually fought in real underground clubs to stay in character. For anyone interested in actual facts, the film was shot out of sequence like every other professional production. But hey, don't let reality get in the way of a good story!
