He is a warrior. So that tracks. As sadistic as he can be, there is a level of honor with him, even getting angry at himself for having to use a cheap trick against Qui-Gon to beat him.

@@RealCodreXPossibly, he may have also just managed to win but be horribly injured, likely permanently so, requiring Anakin’s assistance to survive. Anakin would of course do just that, still believing he could help him save Padme, it’d be a reverse of the actual events, instead of Palpatine rescuing Anakin and transporting him for medical aid, Anakin would do so for Palpatine. As to whether Palpatine would recover enough to pose a genuine threat to Anakin or anybody else is anybody’s guess, but it’d presumably be possible with the assistance of cybernetics.

Dooku does the same thing. When Savage first failed Dooku, he gets on his knees begging for forgivenes, only for Dooku to respond by saying “forgiveness is not the way of the Sith”. Later on in the Maul son of Dathomir comics, after Dooku fails to capture Maul, he gets on his knees infront of Sidious begging for his forgiveness, just as Savage did with him.

I know it will sound like, Well Akctually.., but actually mercy would've been a quick death instead of torture. Maul was begging for death, not life. If you remember he asked Ahsoka to drop him to his death instead of capturing him.

He was weakened by grief, having just lost Savage, who was probably one of the few people he actually cared about. That emotional toll would take the fight out of anyone, leaving them vulnerable to someone such as Sidous.

I really wanted Maul to do something good in passion way. Like when in Rebels he for fun he killed Inquisitors. But I would love to see him do good in Clone Wars. Some kills and fighting against his master alongside other Jedis etc. I know it's delusional dream but hey, who wouldnt Maul to be bad guy doing good stuff?

He didn’t think he was weak until confronted with sidious. He has little to no fear, accept for when it comes to sidious. Every time he mentions him he always whispers it, or says it with an anxious look. It’s not shocking considering sidious basically raised him and put him through a lot of painful experiences to train him. In a way it’s kind of like an abusive parent and their child.

redemption as in turn to the lightside? That would be SO far out of character it's not even funny, that's almost as likely as Sidious turning to the lightside. Maul is extremely evil and has done terrible things, worse than even Vader has done

@@TD-ht8dz but he hated the sith he was given to them as a baby by the night sisters or something and forced to be a sith and when he was not only abandoned but also hunted by sidious who also killed his brother he turned against them sith after all that I think it would make sense for him to think "oh wow maybe this is wrong"

His more fleshed out backstory in Legends is that he was the son of Mother Talzin herself and he was taken from her by Palpatine and raised from birth to be a Sith and that was all he ever knew. He was taught that the Jedi were weak and selfish and corrupt and that they needed to be destroyed. When Obi-Wan cut him in half Palpatine thought him dead and so started looking for a new apprentice, which Maul took as a betrayal when he returned and so he started gaining power and decided to train an apprentice himself as the "true" Sith. He only started hating Palpatine, not the Sith in general, canon Maul was the only one stupid enough to think that one Sith betraying him means all the Sith are bad

The comments got all wrong the reason Maul asked for mercy not actually asking it, merely he wanted to surprise Palpatine by doing something completely unexpected and even Palpatine was surprised for a bit but saw through his scheme

that "brutal" defeat really wasn't all that brutal, I mean Maul did really well against him and if you notice Sidious only won by cheating and using the force to throw Maul against the wall rather than purely using lightsabers

Maul destiny its his own fault, he could had finished obi wan two times and one time he was his hostage totally submissive, and he could had errased doku and grievous when both were his hostages at mandolare, but he never finishes his enemies, that's his own fault. Sidious without Doku would even lose to mother taulzin.

What pisses me off about this scene is that Maul would never have begged for his life. You read his other books he knows exactly what it is to be a Sith, and he had taken tons of pain worse than what Darth Sidious was doing to him. He took so much physical damage several times, and it almost killed him as he was training to become a Sith. This scene is horse manure
