I've seen that castle a million times, but no one has ever done a comparison to the Disneyland castle like you did. I never saw the resemblance until you showed me the photos and explained the layouts. Thanks for this, Chris. You did a great job on this one!
@juliusmeindl203118 сағат бұрын
Actually it is the backside of the Sleeping Beauty Castle that resembles Neuschwanstein Castle the most….
@BellePullman4 сағат бұрын
I've never made sense of the Disney castle comparisons before - the overall shape is totally different! it's big and boxy outside! But from the angle of actually BEING there, walking through the brick entrance, yes! it's so clear! Thank you for taking us with you!
@BellePullman4 сағат бұрын
Also, the rules of where you can and can't take photos... I'm sure there's logic somewhere? Like the time limits in the castle, sure. But yes to filming a church but no to filming a market?! Maybe the people working in the market don't want to be on film?

Chris I saw you taking the horse carriage up the hill to the castle. I was on carriage going down. I yelled "hey" as I passed bcos it took a second to register it was you.German Alps are amazing and this castle was a bucket list for me.

Great video. I visited Neuschwanstein castle last year. I don't think many Germans or Europeans in general know that this castle inspired the first Disney castle. I think only big Disney fans will know it. Btw, it's really a shame that the bridge was closed. You get some amazing views from that bridge and it's quite an experience to walk on it because the planks you walk on move a little bit...

I was there at the castle 40 years ago. It is absolutely beautiful! We walked up the hill to the castle which was a brutal hike and it was summer when we were there. It wasn’t til we were at the castle that we learned there was carriages. 😂. We were told at the time that the big lake behind the castle was where Ludwig drowned after being at the psych hospital where he was committed. They said it was unknown if he took his own life, was trying to escape the hospital and drowned, or was he drowned in the lake by someone. Very interesting story and a very amazing castle. Still one of my favorite places that I have been, besides Disney. ❤️. Thanks for a wonderful video and a walk down memory lane.

That is such a great story and I can’t believe you walked up the hill! That would have been a rough hike!
@suemikalian626514 сағат бұрын
I was 13 at the time, so it wasn’t too brutal. Our chaperone made us walk it so we would be too tired to cause trouble in the castle. 😂

Thanks for all the history about this beautiful castle. Very informative. Given that Ludwig wanted to live in a fairytale, it’s ironic how it actually sounds like something out of a Disney film. A young prince, dead parents, an evil uncle… except no happily ever after. Be careful what you wish for I guess.

I'm so happy you went, but you have to go back in the summer! I went in July of 2016 from Munich to Schwangau, and when I tell you it was absolutely breathtaking-it's like stepping into a fairytale. I couldn’t get over seeing it for myself and thinking, man, this is what Walt must have felt. It’s a full circle. He felt it and we feel it now. 😊

What a fun and informative vlog! Beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle.. nestled in the foothills of the German Alps (as opposed to the Bavarian 'elp that were nestled in the servants' quarters). Its easy to see how it was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle. Looking forward to seeing your family adventures in Paris!🖤

When we were in Germany two weeks ago, we toured Linderhof Castle, the smallest of King Ludwig II's palaces. If you get the chance, go see it. He was such a recluse, his dining table was on a lift. The servants would set the table, then raise it up through the floor so he could eat alone. I know Linderhof isn't tied to Disney, but it is definitely worth a visit for the history.

Hey Chris, Amanda, and Miles! I am so glad you are all having such amazing adventures in Holland and Germany! I lived in Germany between 1984 and 1986 when I was in the Army, stationed up north in the port city of Bremerhaven, but in 1986, one of my army buddies and I drove down to the Neuschwanstein Castle...so beautiful! Did you know that some scenes form the classic movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" were filmed in the castle? Have a great rest of your trip, and I can't wait to see more videos!!!!!

We did Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace on same day. Neuschwanstein was great because of relationship to Disney and surrounding grounds. It was also used by Nazis to store stolen artwork because of all the empty rooms. However, Linderhof was spectacular with it being totally completed with artwork, statues, etc. Gorgeous drive through Bavaria between the two castles if you take southern route.

We were just there 3 weeks ago. It was amazing, both the inside and the outside. So happy we went. So many of the Disney castles are based on it, we saw so many similarities. If you are still in Munich and have time, you should go into underneath into the crypt in St Michaels’s where King Ludwig II and family is burried.

There is a book about him titled the dream king I have read it many times plus it had pictures from inside the castles that he built. In one of the arches to one of the castles there were words carved that said: Be careful where you walk for you are walking in my dreams. It is something that is ether forgotten about or not seen easily.

It is a magical castle. Did you visit his other castle just down a way also owned by King Ludwig? We did years ago taking the scary bridge, high and open, so not for anyone afraid of heights, over the ravine to it. Also one day you must travel the road from the castle into Austria and over to Salzburg. It is so worth it. There it even a mine tour along the way where you dress in old miners clothes including a unique cap, and take the chute/slide down into the mine, then travel by boat through it. Miles would love it.

To make it even more fairytale like: King Ludwig the Second was the nephew of Empress Elisabeth, better known as Sisi, of Austria - Hungary. She is legendary for her beautifully braided hair with diamond stars. The classic Disney princesses look exactly like her. So Provost family: next stop Vienna Austria to see the palaces ? p.s. The beautiful romantic Sisi movies. with Romy Schneider as Empress Sisi, from the 50's are real Christmas classics.

Another great video Chris! One quick tip: read the book that "The Monuments Men" was based off of (same title). The movie is interesting, however it is incredibly inaccurate, to the point of making up all of the main characters involved.

In all your years of learning about all things Disney, you must have heard the name John Hench, right? He started working w/ Walt Disney in 1939 as an animator and rose up through the ranks. He and his wife once had lunch at our house where he suddenly started talking all about Mickey Mouse and what the imagineers do to make the Disney parks the "happiest place on earth". He continued for 2 hours and I hung on every word. Anyway, another friend just recently told me that Walt sent John Hench to the Sorbonne to study European castles etc. The result was Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Tokyo. I don't know if this castle you just visited was his inspiration as well as Walt's.John designed many of the lands in the various parks and eventually became the overseer of all the Disney parks. Also, Mickey Mouse's official portrait artist. He passed away in 2004. It would be fun to know if he also used this castle as inspiration.

We scheduled a Viking Christmas market tour for $18,000 next year. I’m second guessing. Is it easy to rent a car? What about public transportation? Are you taking Ubers or taxis? I’m just thinking I might be able to plan a better trip (and much cheaper) by hopping around Europe ourselves instead of the river cruise. We want to end with Disneyland Paris. Which would you do?
