Did you know this in the movie 12 Angry Men

Filming a movie entirely in one room presents a challenge since it can become visually monotonous, especially if the room lacks interest, as is the case with the jury room in the 1957 movie, 12 Angry Men. To address this, director Sidney Lumet made limited character movement the norm, resulting in most of the "action" revolving around the characters sitting at a table. To counteract potential boredom, Lumet employed dynamic camera movements. Collaborating with cinematographer Boris Kaufman, they devised techniques to enhance the movie's atmosphere. For the initial third of the film, it’s filmed from an elevated angle; for the second third, it’s filmed at eye level; and for the final third, it’s filmed from a lower angle. This progression gradually revealed the ceiling, intensifying the sense of confinement as the walls closed in. The increasing claustrophobia greatly heightened tension in the movie's concluding part.

Now this is what you call great cinematography. It's not fancy angles and rapid movement, it's storytelling.

Add the outstanding acting by EVERYONE in this powerhouse cast, and the watcher doesn't even notice the room, until the rainstorm hits, and the windows have to be closed, making it even more claustrophobic!

Great movie. 12 men on the jury, fighting it out with prejudices. More to do with them than the crime.

I e always liked this film. We studied this in English class and on Friday watched the movie. I was Juror #2, simply because I was the only kid in our class wearing glasses.🤓

This story was originally done as a life teleplay in 1954. That version is available on KZbin. Because it was being aired live on television, the camera angles are greatly restricted, so it's a very good contrast to these points made about creative camera angles. A couple of the actors from the teleplay revised their roles in the 1957 movie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXXOemV_Zbxon5osi=KMVhxle76JKpnkzu
