Did you know in Guardians of the galaxy Volume 3.
When knowhere was under attack by the Adam warlock.
Kraglin tried to stop him with the help of Yaka Arrow.
But he doesn't know how to use or control the arrow.
But, When knowhere was under attack by the army of high evolutionary.
we can see yondu appears before him and tells to follow his heart.
This was not his vision.
Director James Gunn has mentioned that, yondu's appearance is not kraglins inner thought. it's Yondu himself, appeared from afterlife for kraglin.

The Mohawk directl6 interfaces with the brain so it was probably a built in system to assist the user in operating the device. His brain probable processed the information in this manner to make sense of it. Basically it's less about the use of the device and more about the will of it as an extension, yandu probably only used the whistle as a aid rather than a requirement.
