When I was in university, I was hit by a car in the middle of a crosswalk at an intersection where the offending (white, male) driver clearly had a red light. I remember the heat coming from the grill of the car as my body lay wrapped around it. The driver carried my body to the middle of the intersection, stopped the car, then reversed back to his original spot behind the crosswalk. My friend, who is also black, that was spared being a few paces behind me yelled for help when the commotion began and called the police. When my body fell to the pavement, she picked me up and supported me as I limped to the sidewalk. We were in an affluent and moderately busy neighborhood in Boston. No one came to help us. As I looked around me (in tears) sitting on the sidewalk waiting for the police, I saw people actively looking or walking away from the accident. And when the light turned green, the driver rolled down the window, shouted a racial slur at us, and drove away. The first thing a police officer said after I gave my statement was: “are you sure you were paying attention to the road?” I remember looking at him genuinely dumbfounded by the audacity to ask such a question, telling my friend that there will be no justice for us, and calling an Uber to take me to the ER.

When it comes to wealthy abusers, there’s nothing money can’t buy. Some of these men are capable of putting an entire police force in their pocket let alone a judge so I need everyone to stop acting like we’re dealing with regular people because we’re not. There’s machines behind them. Diddy isn’t your cousin or friend or coworker, he’s an enterprise. Imagine how terrifying it must be to up against someone like that.

Lizzo's dancers should be added into this group. Sadly, the public wrote them off as money hungry and they're claims are very similar to Cassie's when it comes to kidnapping (they were locked in rooms), sexual harassment, abuse of power against them and their personhood, and being forced into sexual activities with their bosses against their will. Because they were bigger women, the consensus was "oh, they should be 'happy' to have their jobs" and not "these women are being abused."

@@sixteen.candles.4644People will literally witness this in their own communities and not understand. One of my earliest memories is my mom trying to get away from the house with me in tow, only to be stopped by my abusive grapist dad's cousins and friends who were watching the house. Extended family knew. Open secret. Who did they demonize forever? Mom. Between weaponised incompetence, controlling accounts, and sabotaging employment and career opportunities a man and his parents will put a wife into a position where she can't support herself, and then the entire community will be all like, well why didn't she just leave?? As if 'staying and suffering or leaving and starving in the street' is any kind of choice. Institutions don't help, they only pretend to so that people will think it's not a problem. Shelters are suuuuuper under capacity, notorious for theft and abuse BY THE STAFF, and often filthy to the point of being dangerous to one's health. Cops and fascists harass, beat, and kill homeless people with impunity. Cops (again) and courts are more likely to harm and jail Black women when they call for help. Even doctors are more likely to try to pathologize (and gaslight!) the wife with depression, anxiety, hell, check her over for head trauma a million times, rather than believe that the man has some major fucking issues that causes him to abuse in the first place . *Everything* in our society is designed to empower abusers and their enablers at best; silence, exploit, and profit off of victims at worst. Meanwhile the toxin and image of the social validation that a man receives for being married is more important than the health, hopes, potential, goals, drives, and lives of abused women who are then demonized when said women are unhappy or angry about that.

I can’t wait for the video about real love and how it’s being distorted in the media! Love, particularly black love, is something that is constantly being associated with violence and harm which can have some really detrimental impacts on advocacy as you mentioned. Abusive love stories have become so normalized in the black community that when a black woman such as Keke Palmer or Cassie wants to speak up about it, it’s always met with pushback and criticism with no empathy for the victim whatsoever. It’s really scary when black women come out and express that they’re okay with toxic love and I really do think it comes from a lack of self worth. Black women are already so marginalized and oppressed that it’s hard for us to see ourselves as worthy and deserving of healthy love and relationships. And it really doesn’t help that alot of the media that we consume including music, tv, films etc are constantly normalizing the abuse and harm of black women. I think it was in one of your other videos where there was a clip of this influencer, I think her name is Ari? Where she was talking about how she loves a man that is violent because it shows that he really cares for her. You know the kind of love where he “pulls his gun out and threatens her if she tries to leave”…. It’s truly disturbing! I even think about some of Sza’s songs on SOS, don’t get me wrong I love Sza down and her music, but let’s be real she definitely glorifies toxic love in her music. “I love when you pull your gun at a red light, I like all that violence, give me dysfunction”… like what???? Huh???? And it’s so easy to just gloss right over these kinds of things because it’s so engraved in us, that we’re not even phased or disturbed when we hear it anymore. So of course that translates over into how we advocate for others, especially black women who don’t want to be in these abusive relationships anymore or want justice for the mistreatment they’re experiencing, and the community just turns the other cheek. I definitely just went on a tangent but this is a topic that has been on my mind for the longest 🫣 I’m not really sure where we go from here. There are so many things that black people need to unlearn when it comes to healthy dating, relationships, marriage, and parenting! Anyways, can’t wait to hear more of what you have to say about these topics cause it’s definitely a conversation that needs to be had. Also Justice for Sharon 🙌🏼 even though sis needs to rethink some of her views on bisexuality fr 🥴 we support you but not when you’re being openly homophobic and biphobic!

Honestly, why do we even need to have a stake in feeling our feminine energy to support, believe, and love women? Shouldn't we respect and love women because they're people? Because if we were victims, we'd want love and respect and support? Because even if you or I cheated on a partner, which is shitty for sure, we'd probably agree we don't deserve getting fucking shot over it? That partttt! People forget about nuance way too easily and try to generalize situations to fit their own narrative

Megan deserves so much better. Dealing with trauma from getting shot, the public’s unsympathetic response, losing her mom, dad, and grandma, getting cheated on, and dealing with toxic barbs. Shes so unbelievably strong and I wish only the best for her, bless her

Folks honestly did rally behind Carlee Russell, and I saw it with my own eyes bc I live in Hoover… so I have hope that people are valuing us more now. I guess we will see 🤷🏽♀️

Sometimes you want a person so far removed from your life you don't speak up. You value your peace of mind more. But as time goes on another situation happens you regret not filing a police report so another person doesn't fall victim to your mistake.

Damn dude, it’s hard listening to that phone call, but just so you know- justice for sharon. I don’t condone at all the homophobic and violent language, but I definitely understand the type of exasperation an obstinate abuser in denial can cause. As someone who never felt like they could speak up or speak out for the longest time, I completely get why these types of things take eons to come to light, if they ever do at all. It takes 2000% effort to continue on challenging accusations of lying after speaking out. I wish people could hear the injustice in the question “well, what did you do to make them treat you that way?” [ It’s also an inherently juvenile thing to ask. Not in a demeaning way. It’s the only framing we as children have to reason our caregivers’ actions involving us and the world around us. But as adults, with good guiding, we can grow to learn that many things happen to and around us through no fault of our own. Our actions are not the direct reason for a lot of the hurt that can befall on us. ] I wish people could realize, beyond that, where such questioning comes from and what it’s really conveying. No one makes up baseless pain and agony. It’s rooted in some truth, always. So why not try to understand the root of the matter? More often then not, the person speaking out has certainty been hurt in some manner by the person they’re “accusing.” I’d like us to create the space for people to come out with the truth of the wrong doing first. So we have to make room for believing what’s said first, so even if it’s discovered to be embellished or entirely parallel from the truth, we can still have that come to light and further work towards justice and care. All that to say, I don’t believe Keke would be embellishing or sidestepping any real issue here around Darius. Domestic abuse is entirely too common and, often, expressing pain from that betrayal doesn’t look like the victim directly speaking out against or accusing the abuser. It takes a lot of work and courage for the victim to be able to do that, if they ever want to at all. To have Keke say something and pursue actions directly against Darius means there’s been a lot going on for her to be able to do this we haven’t seen. And we shouldn’t have to see it to trust that it happened 🫠

1. Soooo good to see your gorgeous face Herby hoping all is well. 2. I can't wait for your review of the Netflix movie 'Rustin'. 😊 I was so pleased with the movie would love to know your thoughts. 3. When we don't give grace as a society to change our mind. We rush to make sure people are telling the truth first rather than believing the victim first. If the victim is lying that will come out with time. We don't have to feel condemned to our first thoughts about a topic. But we should feel compelled to create a space for vulnerability and honesty. We can change our mind if the truth comes out that the victim was lying. Society should first create a supportive space for the victim. No matter when they decides to confess what they have been through. We will not be able to beat the ones that oppress us when we choose to oppress others. ❤ #justiceforsharon
