I still remember the first day I saw donkey Kong country. My brother and I were watching MTV late at night in the mid 90s and a super Nintendo commercial came on. It was a bunch of smash cuts of upcoming games flickering quickly on the screen. One or two seconds per game. Suddenly two seconds of a game featuring a monkey riding a rhino flickered on screen and my brother and I both set bolt upright and were like" DID YOU SEE THAT?". We wound up video recording it and pausing it just so we could look at the screen and try to make out what kind of game it was supposed to be. We just called it the monkey rhino game until it was official announced as donkey Kong country a couple of months later. It can't be understated how amazing that game looked back then.

Nintendo was pretty agressive with advertising during the 'tude era, they even sent out VHS tapes talking up DK Country prior to it's release. I think I still have mine somewhere

Everything about Nintendo and Rare's relationship and ownership of characters is really interesting! I remember when people argued that King K Rool didn't show up in DKC Returns or Tropical Freeze or even Smash Bros simply because Rare owned the rights to the character. (Ignoring the fact that he had shown up in the Mario Baseball games) Even the pin on Dixie's hat was something I never really thought about and, although it's such a tiny detail, is a shame that the pin was removed.

CartoonGamer you really did do Diddy Kong justice in this episode, a character such as him couldn't have been represented by anybody else even better. Terrific job and heck your biggest 'Kong Quest' of this episode (sorry couldn't resist) was to turn this video into an advertisement for a Californian game development school due to the current video game industry failing. Oh, the soundtrack brings me right back to my childhood. Words can't describe how I loved the Donkey Kong Country games for the SNES when I was a kid. They weren't just the next best thing to Mario, they were equal, if not a tad better until Mario 64 came along. But I hate Diddy Kong Racing to this day for its difficulty, especially during later boss battles.

If you ever plan on making an episode on Super Mario Odyssey, then I believe I found an Easter egg in the game: There is a specific moon that you obtain by capturing a lukitu, followed by using motion controls to catch a fish. Everything about the mini event is a reference to a game that shipped with all early 3DSs. (what's the plural of DS?) The game is called AR Games. It used AR cards and the 3DS camera to play augmented reality games, ranging from shooting targets to taking pictures to... Fishing. From the design of the fishing rod to the fish silouetts to the lakitu itself, all could be found in the lesser known game that could be played the moment a brand new 3DS gets turned on.
