I've been doing it for 20+ years. Your lower register will develop as you relax further and further into lower and lower notes. Don't push your voice, give it time

I find that being hydrated is super important for avoiding discomfort and injury. There’s far more elasticity in the vocal chords when you are hydrated. Less rigid muscle movement/control, less pain. The majority of Americans are dehydrated as our diets are pretty garbage and chemical exposure is considerable despite how conscientious you are of said exposure. Healthier micro biome, more mucosal microbes in your throat, less irritation. Theory aside, I’ve noticed this difference when practicing between periods of health concienciousness, and incorporating a few poor dietary choices. I practice overtone singing almost daily.

I´ve been struggling until I hear you say: below the vocal cord an now I can do it without ANY effort or problem. I´ve been doing it before but it never occured to me that, that could be it. The vibration really is relaxing for my throught and head, especially when im lying down. You explain it a lot better than any other person I´ve come across so far. My kargyraa tone is very deep much deeper than my normal voice. sometimes I wonder what my "normal" voice is like. I tend to make my voice higher to sound more friendly and approachable I guess. I´ve had voice development lessons and have sung solo and in groups in my childhood. Honestly I´ve always wanted to learn the drums, only guitar was granted to me. But ultimately I think the voice is the ultimate Instrument. You´ve helped me a LOT! Thanks! The higher one hurts much faster for me and is harder to do. For me the lower tibetan one is much much easier and comes more natural.

the thing you do at 15:31 i have been doing for years at the side of my regular kargyraa practice, it has gotten to a point where i can do it without hurting DURING the sound production but the vocal chords will always feel beaten up afterward, i really think it's a technique the throat cannot fully adjust to and i would discourage anyone from doing it regularly, it just doesn't get better. Probably ok to do once in a while for a recording but not good for practicing every day with. One thing i do have noticed about it is that the adam apple goes way up with that technique unlike regular kargyraa where it is free to move around.

Your explanation is amazing and I learnt a lot from it, however I did miss an explanation about breathing techniques. Maybe you do talk about breathing techniques often in other videos, but this was the first video I saw of you. Besides that I just saw an explanation of a (I think, correct me if i"m wrong) Mongolian guy called Hachapuri on youtube, he explained that the start of your sound for throat singing lies at the grunt of when you sigh, for instance after a long day of work. This grunt which is kind of buried in your sigh should be the start of throat singing and from there on you should try to hold on to this vibration, that explanation helped me a lot to find the kind of sound I was looking for. Maybe that could help others to find the sort of sound they're looking for as well. However, besides that I learned a lot from this video, almost got the dual tones out of it! :)

Been doing death metal guttural vocals for decades, but I'm bored with it, and only just now trying to learn throat singing, specifically the Kargyyra technique. Some of the same basic fundamentals apply, at least in terms of learning to utilize the vocal folds (i.e. false vocal cords) as opposed to the vocal cords, so I have at least a tiny bit of a head start. Thanks for the tutorial! Super helpful.

@SiboWoW Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael! I guess that your issue is that in Kargyraa the vocal folds are activated. There is voice in it. This is not the case with screaming (growling is, in fact, a low scream). I am decent with both throat singing and extreme vocale techniques, and the difference is basically that. Low screams, usually based on the vibration of the false folds, requires the vocal folds to be open, so they are not engaged. High screams instead are usually (not always) procuded by closing the vocal folds and letting the air pass through them, but without engaging them, so they kinda vibrate (as everything around them), but do not produce any tone. In other words, with "death metal" screams the vocal folds are usually inactive, and the timber is given by mouth shape and tounge postition. Vocal folds can be used, but that's not for beginners. If you don't know him already, check Devin Townsend's song Deadhead (the live at Royal Alber Hall would be the best) for an example of this technique. Air flow is another key aspect. With screaming the air flow is very soft, almost like a whisper.

@@SiboWoW Interesting. I also felt that throat singing sound more harmonic with the actual voice in the spectrum, compared to screaming / growling. Thank you very much for your explanaitions and suggestions!

I wonder how you get the tone one octave below your natural voice. I do know how to hold back air so as to let the vocal chords vibrate on and UNDER-tone, as in exactly one octave below. But is that what you do? I intuitively understand all the rest. But the very loud bas UNDERtones are what interest me. Can someone please describe to me the actual vocal chord technique used to achoeve this low bass frequency, never mind the flute like overtones that are so easy to comprehend, and hard to do, unlike the elephant in the room, the great bass volume that is equally hard to identify and to perform?
@GioTrev_

Kargyraa uses the vocal folds and, most importantly, the false vocal folds. The vibration of the false vocal folds (which are located above the vocal folds) cause the octave drop you are referring to

@@knudsandbknielsen1612 You're welcome :). I just corrected a typo I made, the false vocal folds, that are above the vocal folds, vibrate and as a result you get a subharmonic which is an exact octave below the original sound produced by the vocal folds (You need to "think" about singing an octave higher than the note you want to produce). The difficult part of this style is learning how to properly activate the false vocal folds
