when i was watching this episode, it's my 1st time listening to this song, to be honest, i'm a guy and i cried. it's very very touching. not because it's a good song, but because of her. i think only the person whose heart has been broked can understand the feelings she wants to express. She threw a crying tantrum at the audition to get them to take her, she threw a crying tantrum every single time the judges had ANY kind of critical advice for her, she even threw a crybaby act at Usher when she thought he might be about to give her some advice. @littlegilbert1 I completely agree. They obviously had a good time beating her up that season. That song meant something to her, from the heart(because of her best friend) and its so sad to see them embarrass her time and time again. I think the judges are all followers. This is way better than the judges said. Maybe it's because I'm an absolute fan of Didi, Not thanks to Terrified but because of The Way I Am and, at a lesser extent, Rhiannon. I admit it wasn't one of her best performances, but what selling artist who is a master singer in all genres? None. Several? A few. Professionals aren't, why would being so be required from AI contestants? Swimming in jelly? It was painful to hear the comments, and to see her maintain composure. Sorry she's out. It sucks.

Even though Ryan's questions made Didi somewhat uncomfortable, you have to give props to the guy. He knew this wasn't her best performance, and he wanted to help give her a bit of leverage with the fans. It was actually a rather decent thing for him to do.

Didi is a wonderful artist, and she doesn't need to win Idol to reap it's benefits. I had the pleasure of working in the studio with her a few days ago, laying bass and doing backup vocals for her, and trust me... she's well on her way up. Stay tuned, she's got some great songs coming.

@soccer4life1429 Didi definitely showed her strength through all the rude comments the judges were making. Ive heard some sing really bad and they have stood up and applauded. It makes no sense. I agree with you Didi rocks and deserved to go further than what she did. She's so real, and her emotions are both warm & uplifting as well as the heartache she has gone through. I love Didi!!!

Deeply felt performance by Didi Benami (from 3/30/10) that met with comments like "I didn't get it" and "way dramatic" (from the awkward, know-nothing Ellen) and "It was like swimming in 'jilly'" (from annoying, pompous, absurdly overpaid no-talent Simon Cowell). Then there's What's-Her-Name who thought it was "overdone" (like her own makeup), saying she "lost [her] way" as a "singer-songwriter" when she was required to do a song from a prescribed list of soul standards and not her own music. @littlegilbert1 - To be honest as someone in the industry, I find the performance somewhat plain, as well as her voice. She seems to be rushing the song, so much seeming that there is nothing put into it, like Simon said, off melody and flat. Most people who listen to music for leisure don't have a sharp enough trained ear to hear when someting is somewhat off key. Now, believe me, I think she has a wonderful voice, but this performance just didn't have the oomph it could have with her voice.

There is no doubt that she has a wonderful sound but.... A singer shouldn't be more important than the song and she doesn't convey the feelings from the song the way they should be. In other words, she doesn't bring her listeners to tears. If you want to hear how it should be sung, check out Joan Osborne's version. It's even better than the original by Jimmy Ruffin.
