yes you've noticed where imagine dragons singing placement is. you can breakdown any singer like that(most common placemnts are on the vowels) and depending on genre you'll have common placments for helping sing in that style. If this dosen't make sense don't worry about you're just not that involved in music. my favorite example of non vowel holding is in metal where its common to hold say an N or other letter in the word besides the vowels(ex. sound of silence Disturbed version you'll notice instead of singing Sileeeeeeence the focus is shifted to holding the N making it Silennnnnce.) You can also get into how higher and lower notes can be easier to hit based on where you place the your focus of the note so when singing a cover in order to hit a note you might notice singer have different places ments to accommodate their voice to still hit the note needed to be sung
