Diego explained it kinda wrong, "Que pedo" would be interpreted as what's the problem ,what happens or what's up. Pedo means fart and you could translate it literally as what fart but when you say it in spanish it means something else. ex. Que pedo wey = what's up dude, or ¡QUIERES PEDO WEY! = DO YOU WANT PROBLEMS DUDE! (an invitation to fight). And no mames literally means don't suck it (referring to the men sexual organ), but again in spanish it means something else, ex. ¡No mames! = Really!, are you kidding?!, etc.
@chazz556010 жыл бұрын
Jack Diaz "Que pinche pedo wey!?" I could also mean "WHAT THE FUCK, DUDE!?"
@ElModistoDeConsolasRetro10 жыл бұрын
Jack Diaz el ¿que pedo? aplica en varias formas al igual que el ¡no mames! can be applied in various forms of expression ¿que pedo? expression between friends = ¿whats up? or just like, ¿What s the problem? in a tone of provocation to a fight, and ¡no mames! is used to say¿really? or as disbelief or surprise, also used as ¡not fuck with me!, or ¡dont bother me! in a state of discomfort, so it can be applied in many many different and varied forms of expression, from the most friendly to the most irate

lol, I can't believe there's people making such a big deal over this. Yes, this is Mexican slang, not formal Spanish. That's what makes this whole conversation funny. No slang makes sense, so it's funny to try to translate those expressions and make them understandable when the literal meaning of the words make no sense even for the people who speak it. I'm not Mexican, I speak Spanish, and in my country we have our own slang; and it doesn't make sense either, just as American or English slang makes no sense to us if we try to 'analyze it'.

I love all the language experts here trying to correct the way people talk. "That's not Spanish, that's Mexican slang." No shit Sherlock. A Mexican actor on an AMERICAN tv show is teaching Conan some Spanish phrases that are used in both Mexico and the U.S. Your country doesn't use those phrases, well maybe an actor from your country will come on and teach us your phrases. You don't like Latinos in America speaking Spanglish? We don't give a fuck. For the majority of Latinos who were born in the United States of America(cuz heaven forbid I call it America), Spanish is our second language.

@Wheelio9 жыл бұрын
+LittleVillage24 Agreed. I don't consider Australian or Irish spoken English to be any "less" English than American spoken English.
@Zelig2Cents9 жыл бұрын
+LittleVillage24 I remember taking some linguistics classes in college, but one of them had a particular textbook as a requirement. There were two sentences in that book that stood out from everything else I learned. "Grammarians prescribe a language. Linguists describe a language." If there were such a thing as an ideal or best version of a language, all English speakers today would still be speaking like Shakespeare. Language is born out of a need for expression and communication. Life is far more interesting when you don't try to bottle it up and hem it in with small-minded little rules. Yeah, it's good to have enough conventions in a language that we all follow so that we can communicate clearly. The mistake is in thinking that the rules of a language are more important than the reason for a language. Why should we want to fossilize a language by saying something as ignorant as one version or dialect of a language is better or purer than another? Every version or dialect of a language is VALID. Plus, change is interesting! Each version of Spanish is interesting and has its special flavor, just as each version of English does. Our enjoyment of those differences is one of the reasons we love a great impersonation of English from countries other than our own. Variety is the spice of life, right? Who wants a salad if the only ingredient is lettuce? For those who don't speak Spanish, they might not be able to appreciate this, but the same way as there have been some great words and expressions that have come out of the US, examples such as, Dude, Geek, Hissy Fit, Chick Flick, Ya'll, Elvis has left the building, two fries short of a Happy Meal, vibe, step off..........you get the idea... all this even though we don't speak "the Queen's English"; the same is true of the Spanish from Mexico. In fact, I'd even say that Mexico... more than any other Latin American country, is to Spain, what the US is to the UK. That being said.... ¡Viva México Cabrones!
@soruharaguni8 жыл бұрын
Mexican people are completelely unintegrated, we do not support our compatriots have success in other countries, well they, because I do, so this is fully common, if you see any other video where a mexican is interviewed, he is gonna be insulted and called ignorant. Mexicans prefer a foreigner having success in our country rather than a mexican having success in other country.

+estephao Those are mexican exclusive expresions, they should advertise them like that, you can't say that are spanish expressions when there are 22 spanish speaking countries where they haven't any meaning.
@monalona299 жыл бұрын
Your point is?...That it is Spanish, ...like I said. So you just want to complain that this doesn't represent you. That because it's not known to you it is wrong and or should not be expressed. Sorry that this representation of the Spanish language is not what you would like. I apologize that the Mexican culture is not how you want such a widely diverse language to be represented. Maybe the problem isn't the "Mexican exclusive expressions" maybe its trying to use a language as a form of representation for diverse Nations and Cultures that only share a common Invader.

We should all learn as much languages as we could. I think it's amazing learning another language expression just like "¿Qué pedo?" and "What's up?" because they mean the same thing but in completely different words. In Portuguese it would be "E aí?", or litteraly "And there?". Learning another language goes further than learning new words, it's all about learning a new culture. Awesome thing!

Spanish is a rich language, and in the United States, the majority hail from Mexico. So yes, these phrases are useful. lol AND on top of that, Mexican Spanish is universal, understood everywhere because of our music, movies, and telenovelas.

If you live in New York Philly or Boston the vast majority of Spanish speaking people are Dominican or Puerto Rican, in Florida the vast majority are Cuban

thats a drop in the bucket compared to arizona new mexico california nevada texas utah georgia,honestly aside from those token cities you pointed out your going to find heavy mexican influence because we are the majority our culture and music is projected out there more I have many friends who were originally from Colombia and Guatemala but really got absorbed into mexicano culture

haha god I laugh with this video! Diego Luna is amazing, and is so accurate, I'm mexican and I would have said the same expressions if someone asked me that. I don't find it disgusting at all! is just a way to talk like the rest of the world has a way, some of your english expressions sound weird to me too but I don't go on and hate it, is just your way, that also applies for the other non-mexican spanish speakers here. I love my culture, we joke about everything

Creo que los demás hispanohablantes están resentidos porque nadie les hace caso, quizá se deba a que no tienen una iconografía tan fuerte como la de México (desierto, cactus, mariachi, tequila, tacos, etc.), solo España y México tienen iconos identificables por extranjeros.

These idiots aren't even spanish... because if they were they would know that Spain has 3 languages are totally different from eachother. There is Catalonean , people from barcelona speak it and it sounds French. Then there is Basque which isn't even a Romance Language. Last but not least CASTILLIANO the mainstream spoken in Madrid and Cadiz. Mexican slang is Nahautl

This was hilarious, Kudrow is fine. I don't know why I see a lot of Norman Reedus in Diego Luna, he's his Mexican version, especially during their younger days. LMAO. There's just something about Diego that resembles Norman. If only Luna had a mole on the corner his mouth & his eyes were a bit more squinted, he'll look spot on.
