The song is about the "Last Judgement", the step between dying and coming in heaven or hell. You might hear it on some funeral sung by the choir. dies irae, dies illa = day of revenge, day of sins just to make it mor clearly to you :)

Rush hour in hell, it seems. Not only the tempi (or rather tempo, as Speedy González didn't bother to vary a bit) did sound pointlessly hasty, it's also ineffectual as the heavy and ominous, apocaliptic feeling of the original version goes watered down until it flows down the pit. Gosh, it sounds almost charming...which might be good for some other pieces, but not here. Just check the official version, you'll decide..
