Diesel Generator fuel consumption | Diesel consumption of DG

In this video, we will learn to calculate per hour fuel consumption of diesel generator (10kVA to 1000KVA) at various load level i.e. 100%, 75%, 50%, & 40%. An obvious question when looking at buying a diesel generator is, how much fuel do they consume? Generator has a fixed RPM so we can work out how much fuel they will use across various load levels approximately? Actual usage may vary due to a number of factors so specific calculation method of the fuel consumption of diesel genset from capacity 10kVA to 1000kVA as under;
Most generator manufacturers use G/kWh as parameters, which mean how many grams (G) of oil the Genset consumes per kilowatt per hour? & then change unit to liters (L) to know that you are an hour Fuel consumption costs.
Generally, the fuel consumption of diesel genset is calculated according to 0.2-0.26kg/kWh. One liter of diesel is about 0.84-0.86 kg. Then 1KW per hour is 0.2-0.26kg divided by 0.84 = 0.238 liters-0.3 liters, multiplied by kilowatts equals to fuel consumption per hour.
So Genset consumes 0.26 Litres of diesel per kWh produced considering frictional losses & other factors.

Sir 25 kv Ka generator hai .. rpm 20 par hai km Kaisy Hoga

20 rpm NAHI hota. DG normal RPM are 1500 and high upto 1800. It can control from AVR by resitting frequency at 50HZ if is is not adjusted to desire rpm, pls check governor functioning and also check fuel injection system thoroughly and calibrate if required. oil pump malfunctioning also shows this problem, check rotor chrome of pump as well Best Regards

It will be run in underload which is not recommended due to more torque required. Less 40% is underload consuming high fuel and more than 75% is overload, will also consume more fuel so safer range is 40% to 75% load on genset in term of efficient fuel consumption and also to avoid erosion in moving n mating parts of dg Best regards

Torque load is increased when we operate DG underload at less than 40%. In this case DG takes definitely high fuel than recommended Best Regards

There are many factors involved for less fuel consumption 1. DG working with in safe operating range i.e. 40% to 75% load. Beyond this range, will result more fuel consumption, erosion in moving parts etc. 2. Calibration of fuel injection system when required 3. Timely oil change as per recommended frequency of particular DG whatever it is. 4. Balanced connected load on three phases. Unbalanced connected load like phase one-100A, phase two-140A, phase three-90Amp which is not recommended so all phases load should be equally distributed like phase one=100Amp, phase two=100Amp, phase three= 100Amp 5. DG consume engine oil due to eroded rings, pistons,liners, valves etc. so DG should be got top end or major overhaul depending upon requirements Best Regards

It is not recommended to use any Genset on 20% load. safer range is 40% to 75% connected load on Genset and fuel consumption will be calculated as described in video. At 20% load, generator will run on underload ,will produce more torque resulting more fuel consumption as per recommended factor of 0.26 Best Regards
