Well done Andy and thank you for taking time out of your day to bring us the videos, we certainly appreciate it. The switch module is a great little investment, and yep, your two for two. My current heater that I’m using and which failed to work with the switch module is the Hcalory 6-8.5Kw, the big heater. With my heater, when you cut the power the controller just switches off and the heater just slowly stops working with no cool down period. I purchased the heater at the beginning of the summer 2023 so it would be interesting to read in the comments if anyone else has the same heater and has come across the same issue when using the switch module. Thanks again Andy….Keep warm!

Does the module come back on just as it had been, or does it basically reboot? Looks like a reboot to me. Can you confirm it came back on as it had been set? One thing I notice is that my power transformer has about a one-second delay once power is pulled, so perhaps the controller doesn't lose power so long that it fully reboots?

this works really well. yes its almost seamless. although i have heard if you wire a battery in parallel and set the transformer to 13.8v it will keep the battery charged and change automatically. thank you for your comment did you see my other heater vids, www.youtube.com/@andyfireblade let me know what you think, cheers andy

Hi Andy, Firstly, I love the time and effort you put into these videos. If this device works for you, that's great. My concern is that if the PSU or the plug top fuse fails there is no visual/audible that the device has switched, then later the battery voltage will drop. (a lot of these heaters will detect low supply voltage and self power down using the cooling cycle. Just a thought.

Nice one Andy, I've got a few of the heaters all running on kerosene. I recently built a box for one to be placed outside and found that with the heater inside the box I ran the exhaust a good length inside the box before exiting at the furthest point. With the box being well vented some of the heat from the exhaust got recirculated into the house increasing heat output, totally by accident but think its worth some thought.

Ok Andy, I watched your entire series and subscribed. Please do a summary video of everything you learned. You moved the home unit outside, you went back to a short exhaust, etc. Why? Can the heater preform ok long term with the long exhaust, etc?

thats great , thanks. i have tried lots of different things. i have a few heaters on the go. this red one is pumping heat into my home right now. I have learned that if you extend the exhaust, you need to use a wider pipe to allow the gases to flow better, ideally within reason. or the heater can " soot up" you can also adjust the fuel to allow for this. Have you got a similar setup? cheers andy

The burner works best with 13 V, so it is necessary to add a charge maintainer,,,

It doesn’t just have to be power cuts, with today’s regulations we can see fuses being more sensitive in households that will trip the power if a device or similar becomes faulty in a house.

Hi interesting project. Is the power supply not having a adjustment. Pot on it so you could just set output voltage at 13.8 volts wire it directly to battery and also to heater if the mains fails it will run on the battery with no interruption when power comes back on the battery will recharge. As well as run the heater. And at 13.8 volts the battery will be happy. As that is about the float voltage.

Hi Andy, I keep meaning to ask - great videos & tests etc btw - but what did you use to get a tidy (if it is a tidy) hole through the house/brickwork to feed the hot air pipe through? Cheers!

Just ordered a heater and im curious, why is it so important to have a backup power supply? If you didnt have the backup power during a power cut what would happen to the heater?

hey Stephen, when you turn off the heater, it doesn't go off for a minute. it goes through a cool down cycle. this is so that the circuit board doesn't melt. it doesn't always happen, its people being over cautious. thank you for your comment did you see my other heater vids, www.youtube.com/@andyfireblade let me know what you think, cheers andy

I don't think it works as in the previous video. It was set on 2 where the default is 3. But when he switched it of mains it jumped to 3. To me what likely happened is it switched of for a millisecond and thus came on.

A second is an eternity in electronics, the flickering was likely the electronic brain resetting and switching back on. It likely realised that it had a power fluctuation and kept on running. This is not an ideal safety device a uninterruptible power supply needs to switch in under a microsecond or less to not interrupt any digital device let alone the microcontroller on the heater.

On shutdown they draw max too as it relights glow plug. I suppose as a backup for power outs it's okay.
