I have used 1oz SeaFoam per gal diesel in my HColory diesel heater from day one, the burn chamber and heat exchange stays like new inside and burns very clean. I use the same in my Vevor with no problems. The HColory actually heats my entire home in North Florida quite well. Your install was great in the F250. Keep up the videos, we do enjoy them and learn so much without destroying our own heaters in the process.

FYI: The fuel cap vent has a plastic insert/check valve. The insert can fall out of the cap, so use a small tie wrap around it to keep it in place. If it falls out, diesel will be splashing out of the top of the vent hole in the cap. Ask me how I know. I use 2 of the Vevor diesel heaters in my barn/shop area and a 3rd one to heat my rooftop tent on my Jeep. Great heaters so far. Thanks for the video

Drill a small hole in the exhaust cap and use a thin cable to attach it to the truck. If there is room in (under) the heater enclosure, you could attach the cable to one of the screws holding the round plate on the truck bed. Make a clip that you can slide the cap into when the heater is in use, so it doesn't rattle around when driving.

I filed the edges off camera, and the wire is zip tied so that it can't move around. There are two ladders that sit in the vehicle when in use, as well as other random stuff, so protecting the wire is important. I'm hoping this works well, but if it doesn't we will have to try something else.

You say there is no difference between the 5 and 8Kw heaters. I bought an 8kw for the camper (before I knew better) and it chases me out in any sort of weather warmer than -5*c on the minimum heat setting (level 1 out of 1 to 10) I have that cheesy three button controller (No alpine/plateau mode). With that I am able to tell the heat exchanger runs around 135 to 143*c on minimum. I'm looking at replacing the 8Kw with the 5kw as I'm concerned the 2Kw wouldn't have enough oomph.... Does a 5Kw heater run "cooler" on the minimum heat setting? How much does alpine/plateau mode affect running temperature on minimum? Thanks, edit: I have installed my 8kw heater to suck fresh air from the outside rather than recirculate the air from inside the camper.
@loweredexpectations4927Ай бұрын
From all of my testing and from everything that I have researched, the 5kw heater does not produce less heat at setting 1 than a 8kw at setting 1. If you do the math on the HZ of your pump, you can get a rough idea of how many KW it is making on setting one, and then compare that to a 2kw heater. The pumps are generally 22ml pumps. This means 22ml per 1000 pulses. For ease of math .022 ml per pulse. That means if your 5kw pump is clicking once every second on low.... .022 x 60 = 1.32 per minute = 79.2 per hour. Diesel has about 1kw/h of energy per litre. So about 0.8kw at 1hz.
@ZewestcoasterАй бұрын
@@loweredexpectations4927 Hmmmmm....... This cheezy pump controller doesn't have the ability to set the hz. My pump is clicking 123 times a minute (Method: record pump using Iphone voice memo recording for one minute. Convert to MP3 and open using Audacity. Count pulses for the one minute duration. Audacity has the graph to visually see the sound spikes of the pump clicking.) Math: 0.22 X 123 = 2.706 Can I then assume this is pumping out close to 3kw of heat on its lowest setting? (Is my math correct?) Thanks, Edit: I didn't take it all the way... 2.706X60 = 162.36 per hour so 1.6Kw on setting 1?
@loweredexpectations4927Ай бұрын
@@Zewestcoaster That's 123 per minute is 2.05 hz ... that seems really fast for setting one, but yes, the rest of your math checks out. I suspect that a 2kw heater is actually about 1.8 on max, so this gives you something to go by.

Please don't waste your time by doing any repair on this Onan engine. Onan shut down a long time back. New parts are difficult to get and expensive. 2-3 years back I was contacted by a company running a tennis stadium covered by an inflatable roof normally powered by an electric motor. The Onan was a back up. I refused to repair the engine because if it failed, and someone got caught under the dome, the insurance company would come for me. No way. I advised them in writing that it was very vulnerable to failure and should be replaced at the earliest. They were not willing to spend the money. No worries. Thank you. Bye bye. I extracted myself out of it pronto. Ron. Ron Small Engines. Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
@loweredexpectations4927Ай бұрын
Yeah... I can see your point, especially when the engine is used to operate a critical system. Lots of these engines are used in lawn tractors and others sorts of utility equipment, so the worst thing that will happen is the job doesn't get done. The reason this engine wasn't rebuilt by the owner, is that if his crew was down for a few days, that would cost him way more than a new engine. I may put this back together and give it to someone for a go-kart or something like that. We'll see.
