Thanks for watching folks. Let us know what you think of these diesel heater upgrades - or if you've used anything different. Hope you enjoy 🙂 - oh and the EGR experiment will be soon too.

I have the same air filter that you installed in this video, but I got mine for about 7 dollars American 2 years ago, they are great, but you need to add a screen to the opening to keep bugs and critters out

That's good to hear @@jamesmason7124 and makes sense about it collecting critters etc. What did you use to cover it over?

I've seen other mechanics using a shop vac in the fuel nozzel to create some suction to stop fuel leaking out. Same for oil changes until you get the sump plug out. 😃😃
@WanderbusAdventures11 ай бұрын
That’s a great tip Paul. Also one I could’ve used for many an oil change 😂. Thanks for this.

I had an extra exhaust muffler for my diesel heater, and I installed that between the heater and air intake filter! That made a huge difference on the air intake noise! Try it out and measure with the decibel meter, curious how much of a difference it makes in numbers 😊
@WanderbusAdventures11 ай бұрын
That’s worth trying - like this idea because it wouldn’t limit air flow either if you used one of of the standard silencers. Will see if I’ve got my old original one and give it a go. Nice idea mate. Thank you.

Hi there I'm doing very similar to you.i have a sprinter van.im running a 5kw cheap heater.like everyone the pump tik is horrendous.im plumping up to get disel from my van tank,so pump will be under the van.im looking at buying the same pump you did.1 tip I can give is I'm installing a 1 way valve before the pump so it's always primed.i also pulled my pump apart today very obvious why they are loud...I'm still fiddling around Il keep you posted.thanks for making your video
@WanderbusAdventures7 ай бұрын
That’s a neat idea on the one way valve. Let us know how you get on with the install. Good luck.

We have an Eberspacher heater in our T5 and the handbook describes the pump as near silent, I can honestly say I’ve never heard the pump either from inside the van or outside, maybe it’s just worth buying a pump from them and fitting that. Hope this helps someone 👍🏻🇬🇧

Nice upgrade to the pump there! That intake filter is a whopper! That’ll hold tonnes of guff! 😂😂

Yeah i will keep an eye on the filter for sure. The yellow one is the fave for sure. It’s a whopper - will run it a while and see how it goes 😂

I’ve assembled all the parts for this but other projects have taken over on the bus. It will definitely be done for this winter. Have a bit of a novel idea for how to make it work.

That’s right on both counts yes.

While the heater is just have burning chamber and quite cheap. I wonder if it makes sense to filter intake air
@WanderbusAdventures10 ай бұрын
Possibly, you do get a lot of noise from the intake. I will give this big filter a longer test, but may seek a smaller mesh filter in the near future.

Hi, I bought one of those pumps and can report that it is certainly way WAY quieter.... there is a small hole above the gauze ...should it be mounted so that the hole is at the bottom and therefore covered by the fuel level or at the top so it isnt ?.... I asked the seller but of course got no response thanks
@WanderbusAdventures10 ай бұрын
Ah great that you’ve also found it quieter. The hole in above the gauze on mine is in the filter container - is that the one you mean?
@davidfaulkner600810 ай бұрын
Yes, right on top of the gauze filter.......I wondered if that's the outlet?
@WanderbusAdventures10 ай бұрын
@@davidfaulkner6008hey David. Looking at the video back I see what you mean. The hole lets the fuel into the pump. It enters in the bottom, the mesh filters the fuel to fill the clear filter bowl and the goes through that hole (and through the second little mesh filter) into the pump.

What does the "22ml" rating actually mean? When I calculate flow on low, I get 2.1ml/min and on high I get 5.7ml/min. Where the heck is this 22ml rating coming from?
@WanderbusAdventures10 ай бұрын
That's a really good question, and not one I fully know the answer to. I have read that it means it can draw 22ml from the tank; but unsure how it meters the 'push' within the pump. Maybe it's so the pump is always primed? Why I did it is I could see my old one was a 22ml, but never thought why it is 22ml. Thanks for the question - will continue to look into it or hopefully someone else might know.
