On this episode of Diesel Insights, Nick Priegnitz owner of Duramaxtuner.com, shows us the benefits of datalogging your diesel truck, how to do so, and what you can expect to see once you pass the log onto your tuner.
Datalogging is essential to help detect drive-ability issues with the truck. They help identify certain issues that may be happening with the truck. It is a beneficial feature that comes with using EFI Live.

Awesome Nick , great information. Nice to see how it works on your side . Can you do a video like this on a LML using the EZlynk. Which is what I have from you guys . ? Thanks, Heber

Another great video! Would you consider doing a video on how to keep the Dmax engine clean? On my gasser engines, I would go to the car wash and spray down the engine to remove dirt and grime. Not sure if that's a good idea with a diesel. Your input would be appreciated. What do you suggest to keep the engine clean and fresh? Thanks.

Whats it mean when ya install a tune and a P0087 appears? installed one on a lbz and got a p0087 immediately when truck started, cleared code, reset truck and it came back immediately again at idle

Here's a question for you, I do not personally own an autocal, am I better off taking my truck to my local performance shop and having them do a log or is a data log off of an Edge CTS going to give you enough info? It shows FRP vs DFRP, RPM, Speed, etc. etc. All the basics but not quite as much as an autocal I would presume.

If you have an LLY, you select the LLY on the spade? Are the selections engine specific ?

Nick does the customer have to set the PIDs to data log, or does the spade log everything and you pick what data to look at, at the shop?

Are you guys going to come out with a EZlynk sample on a LML? Asked about 6 months ago would like to see a video on that .

While it’s amazing how much 411 can be accumulated with instrumentation and your grey matter Nick, but I don’t see any mention of what should be Step 1, a thorough visual examination. In this case, I can’t think of anything that would be discovered with eyeballs that would result in the difference between desired and actual rail pressure, but 5 minutes under the hood can’t hurt. Also, can you tell us more about the relationship between injector pulse width and rail pressure? Obviously in gassers, fuel pressure is mostly constant and injector pulse width (on time) is what changes as commanded by the ECU. Diesels?

@duramaxtuner what else could cause slightly low rail pressure? Mine is demanding 25-26k at full throttle but only making 21-22k. The truck still pulls extremely hard but it feels a little slower than it should be from a roll. The catch is: ive already installed a sportsman pump in it in the last few thousand miles so it cant be that. Ive also replaced one bad injector but the rest are in good condition, no haze at idle and balance rates are really good. Ive also plugged the fuel rail. So im stumped now, truck also has a lift pump its an LLY

Ron Mower ive already put a plug in the rail and a brand new FPR came on the new fuel pump when i installed it

have you done new fuel filter? sounds stupid but mine was throwing p0087 code when it should changed the fuel filter with a fresh it held fuel rail pressure where it was supposed to be

Will a cp3 failure on a LBZ cause metal in fuel system?

It's possible but not as likely as with an LML and CP4.
