Installed this, as well as the front to back bushing today! Fantastic kit! I have to say - he made installing the clip look way too easy. 😂 Took me probably 7-8 tries - Nobody’s fault but mine though. Thank you DieselGeek!

About to install the complete kit. Seems like it would be safer to install the gate selector cable bushing with flange toward the circlip rather than toward the gate bell crank.

The clip is larger than the id of the cable end, so it shouldn't matter. -tyler

@@dieselgeekdotcom yep, i saw that as i installed it. Very nice kit btw and really solves all the slop. Would be nice to have those two M5 screws that hold the shifter socket plate in place. Had way more problem with those rounding out than the gate selector lever.

I've got the deluxe Mk4 kit, and the Sigma 5 kit. I've been looking at a lot of the videos, to make sure I know what to expect. I'm going to start on this today. At the least, take the centre console apart. I'm home for the next two weeks so I can take my time....if anything goes sideways. One thing that I'm curious about.... Would it make sense to add some lubrication to the bushings? To help extend the life of the new parts? And if so, what would be good to use? Silicon spray? Lithium grease? One other thing I'm curious about is about how long the new bushing are excepted to last. Maybe in comparison to the stock ones.
@dieselgeekdotcom11 ай бұрын
No need to lube anything, more than anything it just attracts dirt. We designed these parts to be a forever fix. If you have one of those bushings wear out please reach out to us.

Fellow shifty or shiftless people...Take Note: The SIDE TO SIDE BELL CRANK BOLT IS DIFFERENT in the side to side and front to back tutorials, one is a T-20 as in this film and the other is a T-25 in the front to back tutorial. This must mean that the bolts differed in model to model. My MK4 Jetta stripped out as I used a T-20.

You guys are great. So I have a 2001 Audi TT...today when I was driving it was getting hard to shift from 1st to 2nd...then I parked and put it in reverse...then it got stock in reverse then I got it out of reverse and into 1st and now it just remains in first gear BUT I can push the shifter down to what would be 2nd gear but it remains in 1st - any thoughts? I guess I should see if it's the bushing like you all have specified in another video but that video stated that the bushing would allow you to GET to 1st gear...I need to get to 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th and Neutral basically I can't get out of 1st but I can STILL get into Reverse...any help is greatly appreciated!

I just bought the Deluxe VW kit. There are two small bushings for the end of the crank. They are similar but have different ODs. It seems like I have an extra. Help!

How about 2010 Jetta 2.5. I’m trying to replace bushing at the end of the cable left side.
@JReelVisuals8 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, I have an 01 Jetta that is not returning to neutral. It kind of sticks to the direction of the last gear you were in. I grabbed the shifter weight and moved it fore-aft and side-side and had no movement, this supposedly is the check to see if the bearing sleeve/bushing is good. So since that is ruled out I think it must either be the side to side bushing on the cable by the tower, or this one. Basically what I'm asking is, is it possible this side to side bushing could be the fix?
@JReelVisuals8 жыл бұрын
Hey, you were right! It was pretty obvious as soon as I went to remove the bushings they would not budge. Had to tear them out with a flat head and some pliers, I then proceeded to clean the side to side slot with a circular brush as suggested. The two new bushing slid in easily and once everything was back together everything was back to normal! Thanks for pointing me into the right direction Jim!

Hi Jim. Got a customer with a Ford Galaxy 2001 6 speed box. He couldn't get 2, 4 & 6th gears but on driving it to me, he can now get all forward gears but not reverse. When you try reverse, the lever is very stiff and it engages 1st gear instead. I checked the gearbox end of the linkage and nothing obvious there, any ideas where to start..? Great videos btw :-) Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply and info :-) The older Ford Galaxy here in the UK is basically a VW Sharan so same gearbox. I'll strip it down & check everything. Do you ship the bushes over to the UK..?

hello, can I change this item under the car, it is possible?
@bora3098 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. Overall, I have a question as to when these sleeves are set / changed? Only when the mechanism is slack or if there are problems with inserting gear? I have vw bora 2001 with 6 speed transmission DRW, and since I can remember I have a problem with the gears all come imprecisely but you can survive it, but the biggest problem is with the second gear comes with the jump / hit appreciably hand and you can hear it in the cabin. Maybe some hint where to look for the elements of the problem of over 2 ???? From the mechanical gearbox, clutch complete and regeneration of the box did two years ago, nothing helped. Regards, Chris

Should pop this into videos for www.dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-shifter-bushings/products/02a-shift-cable-end-bushing-set-for-1992-1999-mk3-and-mk4-cars . wait, i just realized you sent me the right one but your website should just say mk3 on my link here, right? then MK4/MK5/MK6? my mk4 video was under your mk5/6 (i have a 2001 GTI AWD engine code) for those people that dont know to look around haha. Either way a quick google and there you are helping. Thank you for the video, helped out TONS. This was the bushing that was bad and fixed my 1st gear issues. I had to shift into 2nd then 1st, now i can shift normal. I wasnt sure which bushing to use, one is slightly thicker, i used the thinner one. When you say its a tight clearance its TIGHT haha, perfect! It didnt even look like i was going to be able to get the clip on there, thankfully i could, the bushing doesnt sit flush against the cable, I tried forever to get the cable end flush on the bushing, didnt know it didnt need to be. The other side needs that 1 1/8?" metal circular saw, didnt know that, but no big deal. Ill replace that one later, what issues does that one cause when it goes or starts to go bad?
