I have a question to put to you... How do you ensure that the inside edge of the brim is the right size for the bottom edge of the crown??? I've noticed that when I measure and cut the crown and then the brim, or vice versa, the edge that attaches to the crown ends up being a good inch too big... The holes don't line up right... I hope I made sense...

@@DieselpunkRo hun, I love 💘 all that you do for your fans. as an admirer of your work, the only criticism i have would be - listing supplies really is helpful for those of us who are in need of affordable suppliers. Some companies will even sponsor you by sending you their stuff for FREE! Example: where did you get the wire? Where do you find your leather? Thread, rivets, etc. I once asked you about the copper on your bag tutorial and you let me know you made it yourself. i would have preferred to just buy them from you by the dozen rather than use more leather. I don't like the way it looks on some things. so I decided to not buy that bag until I can find someone who can help me with it😢. I have no idea what gauge copper to use and I am not set up to work with metal. That would be an added expense I am not in a position to make right now. I am not sure anything about you or your location, but have you considered making the copper accents to sell on your websites? Just wondering. I will continue to watch and learn from you. I honestly do appreciate your time and beautiful work.

Do you have any patterns like this with a wider brim? I've noticed all of your hat patterns do not have a wide brim in your vodeos. This is like a fedora and all the other videos are just top hats. If you do have a wide brim version, would that be on your etsy? I'm look for a flat brim western style hat that is almost as wide as your wizard hat pattern but not quite that large but larger than this hat.

Fuck what other people say is or is not 'in fashion' if you like something....be it a hat in this instance, than fucking wear that shit with gusto and a middle finger placed squarely in the face of anyone telling you otherwise. As long as it's not hurting anyone else then do not let other people dictate where you get enjoyment from in life.

That small rectangular piece in the beginning is missing from the Size 24 pattern. And I'm confused about it's purpose. You burnish the edges of it but then I don't see it being used in the hat construction. Maybe I'm missing something..

This is closer than the other IJ hat, but the rise of the crown in the front needs to be about 2-3 cm shorter (leave the back alone). I think this would be better if the brim used the same self-wrap wire trick as the wizard's hat rather than encasing with a separate leather strip. And the crown might appear nicer by attaching the lid inside out with a fabric style seam and the turning it right side out to not have an edge showing. Also, for what the heck was that cell phone size piece of leather at the beginning used. It got cut and punched and then disappeared. Once this hat is finished and the creases set, you might want to use an old school waterproofing paste to insure it survives rain and stays in shape. Formula for past: equal parts bee's wax, boiled linseed oil, and mineral spirits. Keep in an air-tight tin. Wipe on, or use a double boiler to melt and dunk. If the coating looks streaky one can use a hair dryer, heat gun, or sacrificial iron to cause the coating to even out. Allow to cure a few days before taking into wet conditions.

Hello again, I have another question about the leather. I have what you would call pulled leather I bought from Tandy and it's anywhere from 4.5 ounces to 5.5 to 6 ounces, will this work for this hat? I've never made a hat before and the 5.5 to 6 ounce leather doesn't have a lot of give to the leather like the other pulled leathers I have, they seem to be a little softer leather so could you tell me which one you would go with to make this hat, it's going to be a Christmas present for my son. Thanks again for your help, I'm running out of time I better get busy LOL.

I bought this pattern from you when it first came out. Was scared to death to make it. Then I bought your flat cap pattern ending up making 6 of those for Christmas gifts. They all loved them and couldn't believe I made them. My son's was the only one that didn't fit. Little too big so he wants this hat. So I am finally going to get to use this pattern after years of owning it. My question is, what kind of dye or leather treatment do you use. When I use the stuff I have, came from Tandy, my leather comes out so stiff it doesn't flex at all. Is it the dye or is there a treatment I need to use. I tried a couple of things but there is no flex at all. I am talking you could pole vault with it stiff. If you can tell which magic juice to use, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Tony, thank you for this hat pattern my family will love it. I have a few questions, do you over lap the wire any or just cut it long enough to meet up? Also, I read that you used Brown Latigo leather for your hat, is both colors in your hat Latigo the trim, band and hat leather? Where does a person find this wire, do you think a leather store would have it it would you look at an hardware store? Thank you for answering my questions, have a great weekend. Tammy

Hi Tammy The wire overlaps about 5 cm. The strip that folds over the wire and the band are chrome tanned leather but you can use whatever you want, entirely up to you the wire you can find at any hardware store, ask for 2mm aluminium wire let me know if you have any other questions

simple , just get a piece of plywood cut a v in it, then get some 2x4 blocks. nail the blocks flat to the plywood ( not on the edge of the blocks . . will be to high). but to the edge of the plywood. 18'' x 12'' is good . and 12'' for the blocks. this is for the hat that will be upside down while the dimple will take effect. use a deep well socket for the tip of the dome to rest on to give it the valley look . put some weight on the inside of the hat to weigh down the inner sides . ( if hat has a downward slope toward the front , use 8'' 2x4 block to rise up the back to level the tip...this is for the proper dimple effect) . after items have been put together use hot water to loosen up the gel/oil. preheat the hat ( hair drier ) then slide into place. put something behind the hat to keep it in place. wait 12 hours. that should work for you.
