small hammer is for everybody, who knows how to use it. That is uses for smoothing the surface of fine stitching, not what Tony makes. His stitching is horrible. His design is ok, but finishing goods are not finest

The mini hammer is a "stitching finisher hammer" (rough name translate). It is used for hammering down the thread into the leather to make the stitch looks nicer. I have seen many old leatherworkers use this kind of hammer or something very similar. This kind of hammer has to be light and have a smooth surface so it wouldn't scratch or damage the leather, but just heavy enough to drive the thread into the leather. It's more of a specific purpose tool when making small leather goods.

I got the 5/1 tool. Not bad not great but fine for me at this point. You are always very entertaining and free with your knowledge. That's one thing that I have noticed with leather workers, their desire to share knowledge. The lineman community is generally content to just scream at you or call you a dumbass( I'm one the geezers screaming so I know it's true). Thanks for the content.

Lol I actually got the small hammer without reading much of the description. I ended up loving it. It is perfect for what they are saling it for which is hammering down stitching lines. You should try a Barry king maul, they are pricy but they have a lot of weight options. They make the perfect tooling hammer. Oh and thx for the pattern.

My wife loves to watch your videos with me and is starting to learn stitching to help with my projects. She happens to be Thai with small hands and it would be wonderful for her to have a small stitching hammer like that. It is so funny I just sent my father pictures of the two hammers you bought and I just received 2 sets of 4mm punches with extra tips from KemovanCraft myself. Love the work you do, please keep up the great Videos & Patterns.

I have a few tools from Kemovan. His oblong punches are wonderful and way less pricey then those really nice weaver ones from Master Tools. Those are also amazing by the way. But the little hammers I find useful for flattening folds (as you did here with the gold one) and flattening stitches. Great vid tony. You always notice something the other reviewers miss (ie... how loud that little hammer is).

For the use, the hammer being small is perfectly suited, your not using it to set rivets or hit anything hard, its made to just tamp down the stitching when your done to close up the holes and lay stitching flat. Perfect size for the use case since your holding it lightly and using light taps.

I think the Gold hammer being made out of a soft metal is because it is meant for hammering stitching and leather so it doesn't mark up or mar the leather. I could be wrong though. Since a harder hammer might leave marks in the leather.

I will use this hammer for make bags as my hand are smaller. Maybe to give shape after sewing. Are used for this this kind of hammer. The plastic one it's more used for holes and stamps. I always read description. 😅 Maybe I'm strange. 😂 The French skiver looks as the Palosanto ones. 🤔 if they are, are good tools from Korea, as I know.

The sharpening item You used is specifically made for round edge groovers, that can also be sharpened on a metal rod. So the beveler You tried to sharpen has a flat groove, a flat bottom (rounded) surface and cuts flat. Some edgers are made with a bottom tube like grove and the cutting edge is round. So with the tool You used, You simply strop it on a hard flat surface with changing the angle of the tool, but with a tool like "Pro Edger 5types (Includes: Edger sharpening rud/ Water resistant paper)" from Oka Craft Tools from Japan, You have to sharpen it on a rounded surface (rod). This is the beveler You could sharpen on the item used in the video. It's not a bad item, just for a different type of edger. Hope You read it and it helps :) Keep up the great work and thank You for the pattern.

thank you for your intervention, I was going to say the exact same thing! this sharpener is perfect for keen edge for example! With a flat beveler, it is important not to sharpen the hollow part, only the flat part.

5:37 to find out what that roofing tile looking mother-lover is. Regarding your mini-hammer: after many long years of chasing that elusive unicorn, "A Consistent, long-term D&D campaign among adults with conflicting work schedules", I've finally found a group willing to put the effort in, just this last month. Yon wee baby hammer would look absolutely smashing tucked into my tabard as my Cleric's Holy Symbol. Might have to "weather" it by hammering the pleats in some of these face masks I've been sewing lately, though. My sewing machine is... weak. Every time I go through a 5-ply fold I sweat as the needle bends. It's only a matter of time, Tony! You can make a difference!

Exciting! new video! The new white mallet looks like you need to swing harder to get the same effect as your old black/yellow one. The only use I could see for your tiny hammer is when I use tiny rivets to make tiny leather accouterments for my grand-kids dolls. That sharpener looks neat for the smaller angle cutters, do you think it would work if you applied jeweler's sharpening paste/rouge to it instead of sandpaper?

I have a mallet like this. The reason it's louder is because it's weighted the HD plastic is pretty dense. They recommend these mallets or mauls (which have a different look to them. Because they are safe on your tools. The Hammer Tony uses is also safe on the tools because it's rubber/ acrylic on the back. They don't take any more force to swing since Tony's hammer is probably around the same weight as the Mallet. The HD plastic that's used (Which is the same stuff as a cutting board) Is just loud.
