Amen brother! Your point on stitching is spot on...stitching isn't just a means of holding your piece together, but rather a design element. Irregular stitches turn a $350 product into a $60 product and the customer can make that differentiation in only a second or two. Thanks for the advice!

Just found you today... First time I have ever been able to sit through a video without wondering "when are they going to stop talking", and was wishing it wouldn't end. You put it out there like it is which I appreciate so much. Can't wait to go back and look through everything. Thank goodness for not going to work anymore....

EVERY WORD YOU SAID IS TRUE! I’ve been lucky enough to have a few bags sell and through word of mouth, I’m run of my feet making bags. Heavy duty leather totes seem to be working for me. Last trip to Japan people stopped me to ask about my bag. (My stuff up, I didn’t have a business card to give) My designs are what got me started, I have a few of your patterns for myself and I’m studying your work to figure out different ideas and techniques. Great advice Thanks Tony

I have been telling people for years, clear, crisp pictures, with ONLY your project in the shot, is the most important thing you have to sell your stuff!! Since they are not in your shop looking at your items, your photos are the only thing you have to show the world what you are selling!! Use it wisely!

Thank you. I got into leather making a few months ago, purchased a good amount of equipment, a few types of leather, and built a nice workbench to work on. #3 - stitching: I think I have it down. Well, the double-stitch, at least. MY PROBLEM: I just want to grab a leather and make something from my head: a phone case, knife sheath, journal cover, etc., BUT NEVER HAVE A PLAN. I end up with a good product until I realize I forgot to stitch a button that is now is a near impossible to reach place, or used the wrong grain direction, so it doesn't pull right, or make it 1/4" too small/short...whatever. I need to work on #1. I needed to hear that. Thanks.

I first started leather to make knife sheaths ,I was lucky the buyers were focused on the blade ,my veg tan stamping and stitching was a add on ... and that got me into learning more So i started making friends wallets for cheap out of leather coats from thrift stores , made a shaving bag and now I'm trying randoms .. I make my first anything now from coats and if everything is proper I do it on new leather and any mistakes like your cardboard I make needed alterations to my design You're a good man to pass on your knowledge

I've spent some time looking for some kind of inspiration...I have an oddly shaped piece of elk (very soft) to use. I kept running into time wasters, telling us really stupid things, like how to sort your scraps, idiotic little things to do with your scrap, etc. A couple of days ago, I'd run across a Dieselpunk.ro video, which I found both fun and informative...but I had forgotten, until I saw this in my feed after watching the most recent infuriatingly useless video. Now, I'm feeling much better, and have actually learned a couple of things, including one thing that wasn't even mentioned as being something to learn (using needles to keep the holes lined up). Makes me very glad I subbed after I watched the first one I found. Even if I wasn't into leatherworking, I'd enjoy watching this man do his thing.

I am just starting out with leather as a craft and I have the leather bug I'm well and truly bitten lol I did want to suggest this as an idea I started testing my patterns by using some leather I cut from an old leather sofa we were getting rid of it is a great way to get a testing resource that costs you nothing you can also get hold of old leather chairs from second hand shops to cut up and reuse for testing at very low cost 👍

Thank you for bluntly spitting out the 5 MOST important things and not giving 2fucks about whether it hurts or nah.. it is what it is, get it right and you soar. I've learned one thing about bigger brands, they DON'T compromise on anything. They go all out on design, advert,to modeling, materials and price and people will BUY. Thanks for highlighting those important facts sir👍

If you are doing a show look into how much advertising the people putting on the show are doing for the show, especially on social media. If they are doing a lot of social media advertising it just takes a few clicks to share their advertising. Also if you can post on their site introduce yourself as a seller with some teaser pictures.
