Keto diet and intermittent fasting made a HUGE difference in my menopause management and my overall health (and my husband's as well) I am talking about better blood test results on every single aspect, more energy more focus and better health altogether. I have never felt and functioned that good even when I was a vegetarian in my twenties. Still, I find your tutorials on menopause management very useful and informative, and thank you! But as you frequently say this is my way and works well *for me* 😉

Each woman has to discover how to best manage HER menopause HER way. Comparing yourself to someone else or assuming that we should all be doing the same things are the biggest mistakes of all.

This was great! I enjoyed you sharing that you are a vegan and that it's ok if we choose not to. I appreciate that because there are so many different ways to eat like keto, paleo, Mediterranean, low carb, vegan, whole 30, etc. Each of course state their way is the best without taking into consideration that each person is created differently. Our microbiome is different and what works for me may not work for you. I truly enjoy your openmindness and explanation that we need to figure out what is best for me. I lost the majority of my menopausal weight gain doing intermittent fasting and a keto-ish/low-carb way of eating. I wonder what your thoughts are on intermittent fasting? I read some of your comments about it throughout the comments but there are a lot of comments here. I have started changing my intermittent fasting about a week ago because I started noticing weight gain. My weight gain is also due to my vaginal vault prolapse and my inactivity because it is uncomfortable and hurts when I am active. I need to have the operation to fix it permanently but until then, I got a pessary after my urogynocologist measured me. I have not tried it yet. I bought it online.... Enjoying these videos. You are such a pleasure to learn from. Thank you Menopause Barbie. 😘

Maggie, I'm an odd ball ... always have been, always will be. I look at the "normal" way of doing things (in medicine, in teaching, and in life) and have concluded that most of what people do doesn't work very well. So I've always devised different ways of doing things that work better. No one can accuse me of being a conformist. My former patients have a terrible time finding a physician. They say I "spoiled" them. Many of them still consult me for explanations about everything they go through. Know that you deserve better, but that the norm doesn't give you what you deserve. But you have me, and I'll do everything I can to help you from afar.

I had no menopause symtoms until recently and my only symptom was vaginal dryness. Never a hot spell, headache… I’m never sick. I did start HRT and my dryness its gone! I’m back in action.🤸‍♂️Without the pain✨grateful for my lifestyle which has worked for myself and the fact that I learned about HRT recently. I thought something was wrong with me! Had no idea! Could you possibly do a video on fibroids and uterine polyps? Specifically what is the best treatment for them as far as nutrition, surgery or is it possible that they will shrink on their own? I have had them for years and am really uncomfortable and at a loss about what to do. So far, the doctors either want to give me hormones or take everything out or they just shrug their shoulders. Please help.

Barbie, I switched to ketone-based diet about four months ago and feel much better. My digestive processes are much improved, no more GERD, losing weight although my primary motivation is generally better health. It seems they low--carb is the opposite of Cavan, but both can have good results. I think it might be because both approaches severely limit sugar and processed foods. Thoughts?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 8 жыл бұрын
You are exactly right. Both diets teach you to eat more healthy, less processed foods. And if you do nothing but that, you're on your way to a much healthier lifestyle. You'll find that you "train" your taste buds. If you don't eat sugar, you won't want sugar. If you don't eat fat, you won't want fat. With time, all your choices are "cleaner." Thanks for watching Linda. I really appreciate it.

I have to ask about intermittent fasting. I lost 80 pounds with it and have kept it off for two years now. I eat when I’m hungry and then fast from dinner to about noon the next day. So why did I lose weight if the body would hold onto fat?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 жыл бұрын
Because you took in more calories than you burned. Your body is using it's own resources in the hours of your fast. But, in the process, your metabolism IS slowing down. That's nature's way of ensuring survival. If you ate the same number of calories, but spread them out over the course of a day, you'd speed up your metabolism and still keep the weight off. But the kind of calories would be different. They'd be more fruits and vegetables and fewer dense calories like starchy carbs and meat. I'm very proud of you for losing the weight and keeping it off.

Dr. Taylor's recommendation to eat frequently runs counter to everything I've been reading about insulin resistance. Eating less frequently trains your body to be insulin sensitive which is definitely a good thing. Conversly, every time you eat, insulin spikes. When you are constantly overloading your body with insulin, your body starts to not know what to do with the nutrients in your blood and stuffs them away as fat.

I'm a new subscriber . I have been vegan since age 17 . I'm 55 now . I had a hard time when I turned 50 ( was still having regular periods every three weeks ). Out of the blue a dr told me to have a Ultra Sound , when the results came back it showed a ovarian cyst , the transvaginal US showed this was most probably hormone related and not cancerous. Well, instead of just removing the cyst, they took out the whole left ovary which then caused my FSH to go from 7.2 to over 100 in a month and my periods stopped for over a year . It was so bad I was put on disability for 4 months . After my periods came back ( which I never thought would happen ) I ended up having them for another year and a half until they stopped. I'm upset because I was told that when you have a ovary removed , it causes a earlier menopause then normal . I really wanted to know the correct age that I would stop . Also the emotional stuff this menopause has caused is beyond repair. The wild rages I went through , the depression, I lost jobs, my fiancée of 7 years . None of this I can get back. Now I'm pretty much dealing with the worse depression ever since losing my fiancée and job. I've never smoked, drank or anything . I drink a kale and spinach smoothie for breakfast and will not and have not touched meat or dairy for at least 38 years . I did not know after raising my kids and taking such good care of them that I was going to end up like this feeling hopeless and depressed . I cannot take meds As I have bad reactions to everything so I'm left to wonder if this is how I'm going to feel forever . I'm glad I found your channel . Thank you !

Please watch my videos ... in order. I can assure you that you will get a complete, unbiased education. Your fears will be replaced by facts. The specific videos that pertain to your personal issues are much later in the series. But the whole education is designed to build your knowledge one video at a time. If you want the whole education more quickly, you can: (1) Come to my seminar on September 22 & 23. In just two days (all day both days) you'll learn everything you need to know to manage your menopause your way, no matter how you choose to do it. (2) You can get my book, but you have to read it! (3) You can buy the seminar on DVD. (We're currently converting it into webinars, chapter-by-chapter, but only the first couple are converted as of yet.) Alternatively, if you want to have a one-on-one consultation with me, I'll give you all the background education you need, tailor all the facts to you personally, and hep you weigh the pros and cons so that you are not sotting on the fence. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime, and Facebook Messenger as well as in person. You can schedule one at MenopauseTaylor.ME. My aim is to help you feel confident and comfortable no matter how you choose to manage your menopause. So much of this is about knowing what each option can and cannot do for you (as you've discovered). No two women are alike. You are unique. It's all about YOU. It really IS possible to make the rest of your life the best of your life. You just have to know what you're doing.

HELP, please! Just watched this video for the second time now. I'm at my wits end. My "transit" time is very bad. Can be a week at times. I do have a history of colon polyps so I now take laxatives to speed up my transit time, what do you think of laxatives? Also just hit menopause now, my doctor doesn't want me to take any hormones so what should I do? Find another doctor? I'm miserable, irritable, can't sleep at night and put on 30 pounds!!! I hate menopause!
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 жыл бұрын
Oh, I am so sorry for this tardy reply. The KZbin comments on my end are supposed to line up all the new ones so that I don’t have to search for them one-video-at-a-time. And most of the time, it works. But occasionally (as in this case), a comment doesn’t appear in the line-up. I apologize profusely for the delay. Every so often, I scan back through old videos to see if there are any I haven’t answered. And, I found this one! You should know that I do respond to these comments daily. I just don' know how I missed this one. In any case, to answer your questions, let's take them one at a time. Laxatives do not speed up your transit time. In fact, in the long term, they slow it down. Remember, it's about how long it takes food to work its way through your entire digestive tract. It's not just about the very last few inches, which is what laxatives target. If you eat a 100% plant diet (vegan) you will notice a huge difference in this situation. In fact, vegans have 3 - 5 bowel movements daily. I hope you're watching these videos in order, but when you get to videos 108 - 112, you'll learn more about this. As for your doctor, you should know that menopause is the most neglected topic in medicine. Most doctors have very little education on it, You should try to find a menopause specialist. If you live in North America, you might have a menopause specialist near you. Here's how you can find one: Go to www.menopause.org (North American Menopause Society). Click on the tab "For Women." Click on the drop-down menu item "Find a Menopause Practitioner." Put in your zip code. All the menopause specialists near you will pop up. The very reason I make these videos is to teach you that you can be in control of your menopause. It can be the best time in your life. But, to accomplish that, you have to get a complete, unbiased education. Then, you have to tailor all the options to YOU. I am giving my two-day seminar on September 22 & 23. If you can come, it would change your life. Its all day both days, in Houston. Texas. And it's the last one. (I'm moving.) If you wish to attend, you can register at MenopauseTaylor.ME Alternatively, I would love to have a one-on-one consultation with you to personalize all of this for you. If you want a consultation, go to MenopauseTaylor.ME to schedule one. I do them on Skype, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, as well as in-person. You can include all the things you want to cover when you fill out the form, and then send me any labs or tests you've had. That way, I can incorporate everything into the session. I'll create a personalized document addressing all your concerns, and send it to you at least one day before our session. That way, you 'll have time to read it in advance. It's usually 6 - 12 pages long. Then, I'll have all sorts of props and models to show you during the consultation, and we'll make great headway. You'll understand everything and have all the options tailored specifically to YOU.

I needed this today!! I do all of the 4 things you listed except for staying at a healthy maintained weight. It vacillates up and down. I eat ovo pescatarian. No dairy, no other meats. Lived in Bella Italia for years. Lovvvvveeee a crudités like no one else....but....always with olive oil to dip and red wine and friends. The red wine demo you did SLAPPED me in the forehead... no wonder I’ve gained 15 lbs this year. No estrogen, covid closed gym, shop and yard workouts and spinning at home and doing video tabatas and emoms not exactly the same but getting better, and wine every night. I moved to sunny Temecula California last year from Denver. My house is in Temecula WINE COUNTRY. I moved to a Vinyard property. Getting very real watching this.

What about insuline production when u eat frequently .as it leads to insuline resistance ..plz reply
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 жыл бұрын
What? None of this is accurate. Let's go back to basics: When you came into the world as a baby, you ate every 2 hours. Why did you ever change that? No other animal o this planet eats less frequently if it doesn't have to. Cows graze all day. The only animals that do not eat frequently are those that have to hunt for their food. Increasing the time between meals and eating less frequently is a completely unnatural, un-healthy thing to do. And humans are the only animals on earth that do so. Eating frequently has absolutely noting to do with insulin resistance.

Well, something doesn’t add up. I am 54, 1 year post-menopausal and for the last 25 years I followed the eat breakfast & every 2 hours pattern and I have gained 50 pounds. I make most of our food from scratch, avoid processed food, and we don’t eat out much. I have a wheat allergy, so that cuts out a lot of foods. I am usually hungry all afternoon and evening even if we have the most beautifully assembled, healthy lunch & dinner. We aren’t vegan, but 2/3-3/4 of our diet is fruit, vegetables, nuts (mostly veg). For several years I have been adding more protein & reducing the starchy carbs but my husband LOVES rice & beans (oh and by the way, he is 5’ 11”, 160 lb). Frankly, no matter what pattern I follow, the weight won’t budge!

Dr Taylor, you’re fine on menopausal issues. But you’re no nutritionalist or endocrinologist. To place animal products -fat, proteins, and all- in with preservatives and CRAP, is simply scientifically untenable and irresponsible. Clean, grass-fed and finished, organically and humanely raised animal products are EXCELLENT for the human body. They are superb forms of protein, amino acids, fats and minerals and vitamins, and just EVERYTHING. Veganism is high in carbohydrate by necessity. ANIMAL FAT IS NOT BAD FAT!!!!!!!!! Go back to medical school and learn some damn things.... this is now not even cutting edge knowledge. People: get your meat from GOOD sources- they’re available all over the country now, and also ship. Read about clean KETO and lower carbohydrate diets, which are low INFLAMMATION -- which 😜*HELLO*!- is the real issue. Farting, btw, is GAS and too migh of it just means you’re passing too much indigestible shit through your system. Viewers: get hold of the 4th edition of “Living Low Carb,” by Dr Jonny Bowden, which breaks down the latest science beautifully.

There is nothing that is right or best for everybody. So listening to your body is always good. However, make sure that the "good" is both short-term and long-term. When it comes to your heart, keto is fine (in the long-term) if you do it with plant products, but not so fine if you do it with animal products.

I do follow a very healthy diet mostly and always have. i have a rule that my food must come from the ground - yes vegetables and also intermittent fasting has tremendously also contributed to and elevated my health. I guess everyone has theories including Doctors but you need to find what works for you. Intermittent fasting does not wreck your metabolism because it allows you digestive system to complete digest and completely empty your stomach which also assist with bloating - this changed my life. Thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge with us. I know you get so many questions and it's impossible to answer all. And with the increase in comments I'm sure it's challenging to see all the questions asked. But I'm still going to ask 😂😂😂. Menopause has brought new changes to my body and mind. One that has baffled me is hypothyroidism.. Menopause has made my hypothyroidism more challenging. I thought I had entered menopause since it had been 8 monthsi without a period but as I write this I get my period today 😖. Question: how do I lose weight when I'm up against hypothyroid and menopause? How do I manage the aches in my joint? I am medicated for hypo but is there anything else I can do? I would love to be able to pick up my running routine again and fit into my favorite outfits. Thank you again.
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 8 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you posed your question. Please never hold back. I love helping you in any way I can. I sit down every day to answer these, and it gives me a great sense of joy to know that it's making a difference in your life. "Hypothyroidism" means underactive or slow thyroid. Your thyroid gland regulates your metabolism. If you have fast metabolism, your body gobbles up and processes food quickly ... and you're thin. If you have slow metabolism food sludges its way through your body, processing your food slowly, depositing fat as it goes ... and making you gain weight. Menopause also slows your metabolism. (Mother Nature thought it would be a good idea for us to have more fat as we get older as an insurance for survival! I sometimes wonder if "Mother Nature" is even female. She doesn't seem to understand women very well.) So, you have two things working against your ability to be a thin as you want to be. Your situation is a very common one. (I, too, have hypothyroidism, just diagnosed one year ago. Ugh!) So, the first thing is to realize that you probably can't be as slim and trim as you used to me. It's just a fight against Mother Nature. And we almost always lose our fights against Mother Nature. The second thing is to realize that you can have good dietary and exercise habits. But don't go overboard. Sometimes, women hurt themselves trying to exercise their way to a certain weight. Exercise for good health, not to achieve a weight goal. Be consistent (but inject variety), and be kind to yourself. I'll be giving you some exercise pearls in a couple of weeks. I think you're absolutely beautiful!

Not true. I switched to a mostly plant based diet and had a brief adjustment time where I was a bit gassy. Now I can eat 2 cups of beans at once and have zero problem. Occasionally I do have problems with pintos, but white beans, black beans, lentils and chickpeas give me ZERO gas. Before I was watching my health I did have a *pretty bad* gas problem for a couple of years, eating somewhat healthy but still meat and dairy and a lot of wheat, drinking beer, etc. My poor husband 🤣🤣. Now I rarely eat gluten and take an enteric coated probiotic "pearl", so maybe try that? Good luck!

Dietary modifications, e.g., reducing alcohol, sugar, and caffeine intake drastically reduced my hotflashes and improved my quality of life. I formerly had upwards of 35 hot flashes per day, fed up with my situation, I did some research and found out there may be a correlation between type 2 diabetes and hot flashes. I tracked my normal diet (and menopause symptoms) for six weeks and then reduced sugar, alcohol, and caffeine intake (below 25 grams of sugar - difficult but it can be done), tracked symptoms again, for six weeks. The improvement was astounding; by week four/five, my hot flashes were drastically reduced to less than 10 per day. I'm not on hormone therapy, at some point, I'm certain that will change.

How have you changed your vegan diet in the past 40 year?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 8 жыл бұрын
I really haven't changed my vegan diet. I do listen to my body, though. For instance, I used to eat a lot more carbs. And now, I crave protein and the good fats more, so I eat a lot more protein and good fats. It's all still vegan, but I pay attention to my energy levels and how my digestive system reacts. I notice that I can't eat as many spicy foods anymore. And I've made lunch my biggest meal of the day because I have fitful sleep when I eat a big dinner at night.

Gilda, I'm so proud of you! Isn't it great to really understand what's going on in your body? Now you won't mistake your symptoms of peri-menopause for something else.

Another fab video. I find hard to believe that people eat so badly. I stopped eating meat when I was sixteen, then ten years ago went vegan. It works for me. I understand it doesn't for most people. One thing I was surprised to see was that water bottle. If one drinks from plastic there is no getting away from estrogen mimikers, consuming micro plastics, exposure to all kinds of toxins linked to higher rates of disease not to mention chromosomal abnormalities , developmental problems in children, decreased fertility in men and women. In fact bottled water is les safe than tap water which contain traces of phthalates, mold, microbes, arsenic and thousands of other contaminates. And too, it's killing marine life. I cannot stress how terrible plastic is all around. Berkey makes great filters, even for traveling. Again, wonderful video.

There's no way you can avoid all the dangers this world places before you. People have different priorities as to which ones are most significant for them.
