So I have the same problem, I have been taking really good care of curly hair for 7 years and last year I got a keratin treatment. Me thinking it would help with my frizz. I showered after the she recommended waiting time to get my hair wet which was 48 hrs. I immediately notice the heat damage. Now I have to get about 4 to 6 inches ✂️.

This happened to me as well. I’ve gotten two areas of my hair bleached and dyed grey, I didn’t realize the damage until I took my braids out and seen my hair wet. The parts where I got the bleach done were a lot looser than the rest of my curl pattern (not straight thank goodness bc then I feel like i would have to cut it), and felt extremely dry. I’m so glad i cancelled on getting my hair bleached every month bc then I would have definitely have to cut my hair. Now my curls seems to be back after several months of deep conditioning and not touching my hair, and I’m glad I realized the problem before I continued.

@@StephanieLinda_ yeah that’s the same for my mom. Mine and her hair look so different because mine is healthy while hers is straight from all the damage from dyeing it. It’s genuinely sad too because she’ll continue to bleach and dye it even though she wants her curly hair back, even my little brother said he liked when her hair looked like mine. Hopefully one day she’ll stop and let her hair grow and heal so it can be curly from top to bottom.

Deep conditioning requires using a special deep conditioner, rather than a regular conditioner. You leave it on the hair longer and oftentimes heat is added to open the hair shaft and increase moisture penetration. It adds moisture and can strengthen the hair, especially after damage has been done.

Progressiva translates to relaxer. The keratin treatment she is talking about is a well known relaxer. I have done both relaxers/keratin treatments, personally suffered major hairloss from both. The keratin treatment was great for about 2-3 months after that my already thin hair thinned more and needed a super short chop as I only had a rat tail for a pony. My last one was 2018.

I asked for my hair to be straightened like I always do and the woman decided to relax my hair. I didn’t know until she was blow drying my hair. My mom saw it and continued to get my hair relaxed after I told her multiple times that I wanted my curly hair back. Even when it was relaxed my hair would be very frizzy. After getting my hair relaxed for that last time my mom finally listened. Now it’s been 3 years and my hair is at shoulder length and my ends in the front are still straight. I would 100% not recommend! Unless you really want straight hair then I wouldn’t get it relaxed.

A lot of it depends on your hair type to begin with. I have naturally thick, dry, coarse hair that is wavy/curly and very poofy. I had a Brazilian blowout treatment years ago that relaxed the curliest parts of my hair (at the crown). It laid MUCH better but I still felt the need to straighten it sometimes (but less often) and continued with my partial highlights. I also have high porosity hair so that might have something to do with it. But even with all the best recommended products, deep conditioning masks, leave-in conditioners, heat protectants, hair oils, you name it... certain hair will not look healthy if we do anything to it that is damaging. I haven't gotten highlights in a year and a half, only wash 1-2 times/wk, still use the most healthy products I can find for my hair type and have cut my heat styling down to about half what I used to do and I STILL have the same looking fried, coarse, frizzy, poofy hair as always!!! UGHHHH

I went natural (relaxer free) and my beautician asked if I wanted to get a keratin treatment. She said it was all natural and would help straighten my hair when heat is applied and my hair would naturally revert to curly. The lies!!! This was almost 20 years ago before hair info was at our finger tips. I had mid back length hair and cut all but maybe 3-5 inches.

Actually keratin treatments can do this because it’s heat damage and as a person who got relaxers till my hair fell off then did it again with heat damage, the affects are similar. I can feel the difference between my hair being straightened once versus virgin new growth.
