This happened to me as well. I’ve gotten two areas of my hair bleached and dyed grey, I didn’t realize the damage until I took my braids out and seen my hair wet. The parts where I got the bleach done were a lot looser than the rest of my curl pattern (not straight thank goodness bc then I feel like i would have to cut it), and felt extremely dry. I’m so glad i cancelled on getting my hair bleached every month bc then I would have definitely have to cut my hair. Now my curls seems to be back after several months of deep conditioning and not touching my hair, and I’m glad I realized the problem before I continued.

Deep conditioning requires using a special deep conditioner, rather than a regular conditioner. You leave it on the hair longer and oftentimes heat is added to open the hair shaft and increase moisture penetration. It adds moisture and can strengthen the hair, especially after damage has been done.

A lot of it depends on your hair type to begin with. I have naturally thick, dry, coarse hair that is wavy/curly and very poofy. I had a Brazilian blowout treatment years ago that relaxed the curliest parts of my hair (at the crown). It laid MUCH better but I still felt the need to straighten it sometimes (but less often) and continued with my partial highlights. I also have high porosity hair so that might have something to do with it. But even with all the best recommended products, deep conditioning masks, leave-in conditioners, heat protectants, hair oils, you name it... certain hair will not look healthy if we do anything to it that is damaging. I haven't gotten highlights in a year and a half, only wash 1-2 times/wk, still use the most healthy products I can find for my hair type and have cut my heat styling down to about half what I used to do and I STILL have the same looking fried, coarse, frizzy, poofy hair as always!!! I went natural (relaxer free) and my beautician asked if I wanted to get a keratin treatment. She said it was all natural and would help straighten my hair when heat is applied and my hair would naturally revert to curly. The lies!!! This was almost 20 years ago before hair info was at our finger tips. I had mid back length hair and cut all but maybe 3-5 inches.

Keratin treatments are almost just as bad as relaxer in my opinion

I love chopping my hair off. Ida just told her to cut off all the straight pieces. It takes so much patience to grow out the healthy hair

So good to see stylists that do what is right instead of what the client wants. It can usually end up in more damage to the hair!👍🏼😜

Damage on top of damage and putting more damage on and when she’s bald she will wonder what happened 👍

Yes because deep conditioner placing moisture into incredibly dry/damaged hair to help repair the hair, is somehow damaging it more. 🤦♀️

@@Hurrrdurrrrrrr it isn’t about lookin good, it’s about the risk of the hair falling out. It’s damage, and this person who made this post made a bad decision for her client.

Actually keratin treatments can do this because it’s heat damage and as a person who got relaxers till my hair fell off then did it again with heat damage, the affects are similar. I can feel the difference between my hair being straightened once versus virgin new growth.

my mom used to have the same problem she always puts her hair up in a tight bun and she sometimes wore the bun to sleep over the months it was hard to not notice and by the end of the year she decided "new year, new you" so she invited over an old student and that old student fixed her hair and she was strictly told to not wear a bun for 9 months

No I find the the preservative in keratin changes bonds permanently especially if they reinforce it with the flat iron at home! I’ve had this exact dilemma with curly keratin girls 🤷♀️

She has curly hair it doesn't look curly because of the relaxer it will loosen the curl and even make the hair straight that's why

Actually keratin relaxes the hair just like a relaxer. And never washes out. I had it and had to cut off my curls, the ends stayed wavy forever.
