Difference in Studying: Doctorate vs Bachelors | Physical Therapy School

What are some key study habits that I had to change from my Bachelors to my Doctorate of Physical Therapy studying?
At the bachelors level, it was all about getting the highest grade possible to get the highest GPA possible in order to get into DPT school.
At the doctorate level, it's about understanding the concepts and figuring out WHY instead of WHAT.
Which learning style are you? Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic? Figure that out, and save TONS OF TIME with your studying.
Along with grinding with studying, it is just as important to learn how to rest and intentionally take time away from studying. This sounds counter-productive, but in actuality, it helps improve your efficiency.

Michelle Salinas you make it Michelle!!! Promise. DPT school is a steep learning curve but you will be able to push through. Remember that YOU were chosen out of the thousands that applied because you proved your academic ability. Never forget that 🤩 I know that was something I had to CONSTANTLY remind myself throughout dpt school. YOU GOT THIS!!! Consider watching this video on the top 5 characteristics for a successful dpt student. I think it will help you!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaPMfZyHis2VgbM

liftforchange definitely! Mindset is super important! I originally was taking my prerequisites for Ot but have decided to pursue PT which means lots more science classes so definitely am interested in hearing more about your perception and how you stay focused. The time management video was super helpful too by the way.

I struggled with deciding between pursuing PT and AT, and it all came down to lack of observation hours because of covid and my gpa(bad undergrad freshman year)..I ended up pursuing AT in the end and it was a relief in the sense that I don't have to worry about impressing admission boards with my gpa anymore, I just need to focus on knowing content and understanding it

I’m happy for your Matthew! I’m glad you were able to go through an experience which lead you down the path to AT. All these struggles will only reinforce your vision and dreams! You CAN understand the content. Keep it up man

Im currently a 2nd year student in PT, I am struggling in anatomy so bad including the positioning of certain placements of body parts. But still im fighting
@drjustinleedpt

Keep up the good fight! Anatomy is no joke, but is the fundamentals and basics of all physical therapy. You wouldn’t be a dentist without knowing all there is and the anatomy of the teeth. Same thing with PT. YOU GOT THIS!!

I don’t think I’m going to apply to csun’s dpt program anymore! I’m thinking of applying to Azusa Pacific nowadays because I know they accept around 70 people compared to 30 at csun. The only other prerequisites I would need besides the bachelors of course are a psych class and a bio class. I’m just scared because I know it’s an accelerated program of 120 units in 3 years. Anyway, you will be hearing a lot from me in the future bro :) hope you’re doing well these days as a PT!!!

I’m excited for you man!!! I think that is a smart decision! APU gives so much opportunity, it’s literally crazy. So many connections. If you want to be the best, (aka networking amping high level residents and fellow-trained PTs) then APU trains their students to do that. I’m so happy for you man!

Hey! I'm applying for a PT undergrad degree and I found your channel when searching for some information that could help me. What I understood is that undergrad is 4 years then comes the doctorate, so my question is do I HAVE to get into DPT school after finishing my undergrad degree? Or I could just work with the degree I already have Also, do we take the board exam AFTER doctorate or before ? I'm just so confused and I didn't have anybody to ask. Please do help 😭😭🙏🏻

I won't study in the US
@drjustinleedpt
@drjustinleedpt 4 жыл бұрын
Those are great questions. So.. I could only speak on behalf of USA. In the USA, you get study a type of “physical therapy” for undergrad, but that alone will NOT allow you to work as a PT. You HAVE to get a DPT. However... you can work as a pt aide after a high school degree. License exam is only for DPT and PT assistant, which is taken after school
