This is such a great video! I’ve never had someone explain it so clearly before especially with their own experiences thrown in. Makes me want to look into a midwife next time because my OB was super uninformative with Charlie. The standard of care seems way more flexible and customizable with a midwife

Yes! My first birth was with an ob/gyn at a hospital and the same thing you said, I didn’t know who would deliver me the day of (thankfully he actually ended up being a great doctor but wasn’t the person I worked with my whole pregnancy). I was able to have an unmedicated delivery but they put me on the clock after breaking my water and I had 12 hours to deliver or have a c-section. They kept trying to encourage pitocin even though I was ok and baby was ok (before they broke my water). I was told to labor at home when I first got there or it would be more likely to induce me. Now I have a midwife and hoping to deliver at a birthing center and one thing that seems so simple that no doctor ever did…she made note of my first daughter’s name, my partner’s name, and my new baby’s name. It’s in my notes along with info about my birth plan. No one ever bothered to ask about my little family. The ob/gyn I stopped going to for this pregnancy was very short with me and dry. This midwife like you said really wants to know my whole story. She saw I missed a bunch of appointments and while all the other nurses before were treating me like a criminal, she actually asked if anything was going on at home that was making it hard for me to get there. I shared with her health problems with my older daughter I had been focused on. The first obgyn made a big deal about how big my baby was at only 26 weeks and how I’d be at risk for gestational diabetes and all this crap (when I’m perfectly healthy) and the midwife said it was probably just a growth spurt and not to worry about it. Just so different in the level of care.

I loved my first OB. She had her own practice so we was very attentive. & she was there to deliver James. But with my 2nd she left mid pregnancy & it was just different. But now I’m convinced the ones that deliver lily were midwives that were at the hospital because they were just so helpful & great! This was very informative thanks for sharing

This was so interesting! Thanks for sharing. I only ever used OBs and I had pretty good experiences. But I definitely see the advantage of a midwife.

I had to beg to do something else with the diabetes test because I threw up the drink twice. It makes me angry that everything was so strict. Definitely want to do a midwife this next baby

I have an OB this time but I think I would like to go the Midwife/birth center route for future pregnancies

I love this information! I had never looked into the differences. Wow you truly will have experienced it all! That's amazing. I've had 2 c-sections so if I had a third baby I would love to look into VBAC. Thanks for this video!!

With Finley I refused pitocin. I walked in the hospital at 5cm and they broke my water. I knew I’d go super fast after that but they still tried to push pitocin. I didn’t let them, but with my first baby i probably would have cause you just don’t know any better.

This is interesting! I would have looked more into to having a midwife vs the Doctor that cut my intestines 😢 if I had all this information back then. Thanks for breaking it down.

That's interesting that you have all those different options, it is similar here in the UK, we have midwife led units and obstetrician led units, i had to have both mine in hospital under the obstetrician due to complications, midwives tend to just deliver low risk babies here.

I have a low pain tolerance and want to opt for epidural, will a midwife be judging and not want to work with that? Should I go with an OB instead ?
@AddieDwyer2 жыл бұрын
You will likely have to find a midwife in a hospital practice, but no I don't think they will be judging. Every mama should have the choice to birth the way they want to :)

Would you say a CPM or CNM is a better choice as far as being equipped and trained to handle more situations during pregnancy?
@AddieDwyer2 жыл бұрын
I would say it honestly would depend on the midwife and what you feel comfortable with. I would do some interviews and see who I hit it off with the most. Different states have different licensing laws so it's a hard question to answer

How do you even go about finding midwives?
@AddieDwyer3 жыл бұрын
Google was no help for me, but I found a facebook group that was able to provide a list of midwives in my area. Unfortunately I think that people try to shut midwives down so they keep kind of under the radar and work mostly from word of mouth
