The only way this makes sense to me scientifically is that technically, lasers are machines that emit photons (light) in a columnated beam; meaning that all the photons should be moving in the exact same direction. Thing is, light in atmosphere wants to defract and deflect off of any particle it collides with, so when you're seeing a laser, you're seeing all the photons that have been cast out of the beam. As such, maybe by 40k they figured out how to create a device that reduces the ability of those photons to be deflected to near-zero, so you can't see the beam because there's no photons falling out of the stream.

Additionally, Tanith made Lasguns use a sickle pattern design which use Size 3 cells which was a big issue when in Guns of Tanith the Munitorum mistakenly gave them Size 5, little details between Guard regiments

Actually it's just the artists using colours that work for the art. There is art of Armageddon Steel Legion firing blue and red, and there is art where Cadians fire yellow or even green. And the suppressor doesn't make the beam invisible, it just makes it look like an actual laser... meaning it's almost invisible and practically invisible to the naked eye from far away. But if it barely misses you, you might actually see it.

Probably has to do with the type of power pack the model of lasgun takes, which is not universal. One of the Ghost novels had the Tanith 1st on reduced ammo and scrounge backup weapons due to their lasguns not taking the planets "standard issue " power packs. Even in the grimdarkness of the 41st millennium logistics is what wins wars.

My head cannon is similar to star wars. Their blaster beams are different colours depending on the gas they use. I extend this logoc to the type of power cell the lasguns take. Different lasguns actually take different models of power packs. In one of the Gaunts Ghosts books, they were issues the wrong pattern of ammo before a battle and had to rely on whatever they had laying around.

The lasguns used by the Tanith First and Only also are specifically known as MK.3 Lascarbines which require MK.3 power packs and the only difference between Tanith issued Lasguns and Verghast issued Lasguns are that Tanith models feature a Nalwood stock and grips whereas Verghastites have folding stocks.

When I run Dark Heresy I tell my players that all military lasers are infrared. Colored models are only for civilan and planetary police forces use. The latter with exceptions for some roles like snipers etc.

You know whwtw also interesting. Guard regiments just get supplies from the nearest forge world. In lore, it actually doesnt make sense for regiments to all be kitted with the same gear. GW has said this themselves. If a regiment gets new recruits on another world and needs supplies, they get what they get. If the nesrest forge world makes blue uniforms, they get blue uniforms. If they make lasguns with green lasers, thats what they get. Regiments would probwblynhave multiple colours going at once. And i for one am all for RGB firepower on the field.

This always bothered me the first time reading Gaunt’s Ghosts, how the Tanith’s lasguns are stated to fire blue bolts. I’d forgotten that standardization in Imperium tech depends upon the pattern being mass-produced, and that it’s reasonable to attribute that to be responsible for the inconsistencies in colors.

Calling it a "suppressor" is goofy, but the effect is maybe not as dumb as it seems. IR lasers exist, the regular fire from the lasgun could be getting absorbed from the "suppressor" to power it so it can shoot an IR beam, or some other high-energy beam pn another non-visible spectrum that is discovered at some point in the next 40,000 years. Remember these things can be charged in a pinch by throwing them in a campfire.

In the real world lasers are naturally invisible unless there is some fog to light up. No need for a suppressor to get around that just shoot a wavelength that is invisible. If fighting xenos or demons make sure that the wavelength used are invisible to them. Eldar eyes may be able to see in a different spectrum then humans can see after all. And then we have the possibility of combatants wearing goggles that adjusts their visibility spectrum. But you still need to have some fog to light up or ALL lasers, regardless of wavelength, will be invisible.

"Invisible" lasers are actually fine but "suppressors" would be the wrong word. Most light isn't visible light. If they just changed the wavelength to something outside of the visible spectrum, you'd have a laser that humans wouldn't see. Auspex or eyes that see into other parts o the EM spectrum might still be able to detect it though.
