I'm still an undergrad, so I haven't taken any pod school classes yet, but I actually agree with you that they shouldn't have us take classes about things we'll never use. I've heard that they're trying to make podiatry school curriculum more like MD/DO, which is annoying because even though those topics might interest me, I want to be a podiatrist, not a physician. I'll definitely consider what you said about choosing schools if this is the route I decide to take, I would like to have faculty/admin that will support my learning when I get there.

Hey Jeff! We are physicians! We are also specialists of a very specific part of the body. After taking 2 board exams a common thing I hear classmates say is "I forgot about it" to certain topics on the exam. We simply don't use general medical knowledge on our day to day encounters with our patients. So even though we are physicians and try to cover every part of the human anatomy/pathology possible in didactic school years, the classes we take should be more focused on our specialty. This goes for Dentists, Optometrists, and even MD/DO's who know what specialty that want to get into. Cut back on those schooling years! haha

@@chenspodiatrychronicle8827 Then think about this, if they condense it to two years like you proposed, podiatry degree DPM will certainly loose its value.

I'm a pre-pod now, just out of curiosity what school do you think the students are happiest at? Also I believe the "nonsense" in regards to the subject matter that isn't necessarily part of the career, is necessary to have in order to be respected as a physician/surgeon by the MD counterparts. Dentists do it as well. The first two years cover essentially the whole body. Just my two cents tho Haha. Thanks for uploading

Hey Gio, Thanks for your reply I'm not sure where the happiest students are but knowing what I know now I'd have certain criterias that the school has to meet which are: curriculum designed with students in mind, and admins that offer better communication/support for their students. To your 2nd point, I enjoy learning about the pathophysio of diseases, but oftentimes the only reason we're studying that is because it's on the boards and everyone eventually forgets about them because we'll never use it again in our career. I find that very troublesome. Moreover, even if we do encounter patients with certain diseases (not lower extremity pathology related) in our practice we can only send them to the appropriate provider :(. I'm frustrated to see what I learn to go waste because as a podiatrist I can only treat the foot and ankle. And with that I'd argue that Podiatry has been around for a while now. We should have programs more tailored to teaching just the essential topics we'd need to know to be in the clinics. Instead of 4 years make it 2+ 3 yrs of residency. It only makes sense this way w/ the limitations that come with our profession.

I’m at the podiatry school now and many people are struggling. The exam average for neuroanatomy was 77. The exam average for anatomy was 70. Temple podiatry is horrible
