I've used the Micro-Mesh sanding sheets. They come in grits up to 12,000 (twelve thousand) and they are used to take the scratches out of jet windscreens, leaving them completely transparent. If you don't enjoy the process of sanding, though, I think it could be frustrating because it does take some time and multiple passes over the object. On the other hand, I haven't seen anything else to match the glass clear, perfectly smooth surface finish.

When I was experimenting with coatings.I tried the nail varnish and also found that it dried with a lumpy surface.At the time I put this down to the nail varnish being a bit old and gloopy!I also tried an acrylic spray (plastikote) which seems to harden nicely but then slides off the piece along with the sticky layer underneath when it "melts"!Also picked up some beeswax furniture polish as I heard this can help.Created a nice shine after a couple of coats but didnt help with my "melting" issue!

So far I really like the Castin' Craft spray for anything that is detailed, such as the roses and other flowers. It really gets into the indentations well. I tried the Krylon acrylic spray and was not happy at all with the results on detailed items or flatter pieces. May be the thickness or something else, but I didn't like the way the pieces looked. Hope that helps someone.

A great video gets responses 2 1/2 years later!!!! This is such a generous video and you did so much work to share with others in a way that is so helpful. Just recently got Novus because I have a stash of resin beads that I bought cheap and are knocked around. I use a variety of acrylic paints and nail polishes to color them and I've been using triple thick which sometimes is perfection and sometimes not. I try different brushes - I find the softer brushes leave less brush strokes. Sponge brushes don't do well. Sally Hansen complete manicure nail polish needs very little help and often leaves the beads gorgeous and shiny and smooth. However, I think I have to bang it around a bit to make sure that it lasts. I'd probably have to coat it to protect it in the end. I will try the spray you recommend as well, but I have to wait until it's warm and I can open all the windows in my apartment!!! Thank you for the wonderful video and your contribution to the bead making community!!

Great review! I personally like waterbased Polycrylic clear or resin. I found it was difficult using Triple Thick and I never tried nailpolish as I assume it would chip or yellow overtime? I find doming clear resin on top is the best finish but it is also more work and more fussy to do which is why I often reach for the polycrylic.

I haven't used Resin Obsession, so your mileage may vary, but I have used a paintbrush to brush on a coating of resin and that works well since resin is self leveling. Again, assuming yours works the same, you can use nail polish remover to remove the resin from the brush when you are done. If you use a small enough coat, you may not have to worry about drippings.

How would I go about sanding and buffing off rough edges?
@notebookluvr10 жыл бұрын
Natalee Wilson I use metal jewelry files, as well as metal nail files. I also use a foot smoothing file at the end, lol. Never been used on a foot before, of course :) I also use flush cutters to cut larger parts that need to be removed first. Some people use a rotary tool such as a dremel, to sand, but you need to wear a mask for sure to avoid breathing anything in, and also need a place for all the small particles to land. It can be quite messy, either way. I prefer to glaze mine with Resin, because it is shiny and durable. I am always worried nail polish will flake over time. And I've heard triple thick doesn't handle heat well. I also sometimes use a spray called Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze that you can buy in the Spray paint Section at Walmart for about $4. I've used the Resin Spray and I don't think it works as good as the Triple Thick spray, and the resin spray costs more.
