Im a setter: whats this word „opposite“ youre talking about? didnt know it existed
@crescentwing.6 ай бұрын
@@original_lollyy when playing a 5:1 rotation, the setter is in back row and she pushes a player up. Let’s say she pushes up front left (outside). Then there’s middle, and front right. Front right is opposite. Setters commonly forget it exists because they plant themself between middle and opposite, looking away from opposite. Hope that helped!

As a fellow lefty setter that dump montage was cleaaaan!! Kinda wish there was a net magnet setter because all setters know that feeling of grazing the net when the pass is tight or just hammering the net on a dump :(

You forgot the one setter who's really good and consistent, and then mess up once and get absolutely berated by their teammates.

@VBMichael_D3 ай бұрын
Are your standing sets accurate and consistent? Hopefully so. I do not recommend learning to jump set until one's ground sets are accurate and consistent. Jump setting is not a basic fundamental of setting. It is an advanced skillset that should be learned after the fundamentals.

The fact that their triple block is camping left side is indictive of bigger issues (bad passing, setter telegraphing sets, etc.).

As a setter I dislike OHs and RSHs taking an outside in approach, and swinging angle into a double block, and getting blocked, when the block has given them two feet of open sideline to hit. OHs: STRAIGHT in approach. Bounce line if it's open. INTENTIONALLY tool the block if they block your line. If you can deflect it perpendicularly off their hands, out of bounds, NO ONE is going to get it.

@VBMichael_D3 ай бұрын
Make sure your opposite (and OHs) know how to hit line shots and their approaches are basically STRAIGHT up the sideline. Outside in approaches are stupid and unnecessarily narrow a hitters window.

I can give you one OH stereotype: -approaching from the far left, almost parallel to the net, and swinging angle/sharp angle into a double block that is blocking angle/sharp angle, when they have 3 feet of open line. Did OHs forget about the straight in approach and sideline shots?

there are 2 types of setters, the ones who will set everyone about equally and the ones who only ever set left side even if they cant actually get a hittable set to left side
@VBMichael_D3 ай бұрын
@@goated_aone how about the setters like me that key on the other teams MB via peripheral and will set the hitter that their MB can't get to? I.e. if my MB is hitting a 31 and opposite a 93, as the pass comes to me, I can see if the MB moves to cover my middle 31. If he does slide over, I'm setting a 93 so my opposite will have just one block. I don't see many setters doing the 'NFL QB' tactic of reading the defense before they make their 'pass'. I've seen Chistensen (U.S.) and Sanchez (Argentina) turn their heads to glance at the defense when the pass is in the air, but they don't do it consistently, nor do they make the set that will result in one on one every time.

LOL...your exaggerated gestures are cracking me up. I like the assessments. I've seen examples of all of them. I've seen a combination of the lazy setter and the bump setter....if the pass is low (and even when they can take a knee or slide to hand set), they will just trot over and bump set it instead. GRRRR The only time one should be one hand setting is if to prevent it from being an overpass that gets blocked or swung at by the opposing team. Otherwise, you should be using TWO hands!
