What is the difference between an absolute pressure sensor and a relative pressure sensor? Relative pressure measurement is used when overpressure has to be measured. Absolute pressure measurement is used when, for example, a process runs under vacuum in a reactor and the pressure has to be monitored there.

Absolute pressure = atmosphere + vessel pressure. With absolute pressure transmitters, this means that both the atmospheric pressure and the pressure in the vessel are acting on the diaphragm.
