It's not that most engines do not have iaaues. It is just how unnecessarily complex and expensive issues are on this. I got my car for 3750EUR. Injectors cost 1500EUR. Timing chains 2000EUR. Right engine mount 350EUR.The small gasket in the v that leaks oil over your accessory belt - 6.5EUR+1 day labour to get to it. Overall 200EUR. We've just done basic maintanance on the engine and looking at a bill of 4050EUR (more than we paid for the car). Ask me how I know these things...

My 2005 A4 B7 BKN with software on 250 hp now runs perfectly with 410,000 km (!!). At 250 thousand I changed injectors but that was the only investment ever on the engine (!) still 1. timing chain, 1. turbocharger 1. high-pressure pump .... otherwise nothing ever happened!! I hope to get over 500,000 km without any problems and will do it every 10 thousand. Oil change ;) oh of course the ZF 6-speed automatic transmission is also the first! Truly the best car I've ever had!!

People are saying "ohh it's ticking bomb, ohh it got a lot of problems" when in reality its pretty realiable engine, like a lot of diesel engines turbo, injectors, egr, dpf, is common issues and its not a big of a deal, turbo and injectors can be restored, you dont need new oem ones, dpf and egr in my opinion should be deleted, then you bypass that mysterious coolant leakes cuz of blanked of egr, and you dont suffer from cloged dpf and turbo problems, you pass all mot inspections co2 tests and evrything without them, swirl flaps are not a problem but you can delete them to. The biggest thing is the timing chain in my country it does cost 1200€ with the labour and parts. So i have this engine (audi a6 c6 3.0tdi v6 quattro automatic) and i love this car, before i had m57 bmw, same thing that can occur turbo injectors ect... So dont be scared of a good engine, ofc if u want to go on a cheap side just pick 1.9tdi and thats fine.

In my 5 years of ownership, I have, replaced all 6 injectors and seals (found an amazing deal on the injectors, so i only done it as preventative maintenance. I have gutted the dpf, removed the egr and egr cooler, remapped the engine to delete these also (or you get an eml error) I'm now running over 300bhp. Im about to replace the turbo feed seals (no oil lines as its fed straight from the block mounting) and upgrade the turbo to a new hybrid turbo (the technology on these original turbos is 13 years old now atleast) and new turbos can spool far quicker and more effectively. I want to push close to 400bhp and 1,000nm of torque as safely as I can Map it. I will mostlikely need to make a custom exhaust as these are quite small in diameter at the downpipe back to what I'd like to be on it. These engines are also mated to the Aisin 8 speed auto box which is one of these best auto boxes there is, not the 100,000 mile and explode ZF junk you get in most vehicles of this era.

On my 07 Allroad ASB engine, 420k kms, replaced a complete water hose and the reservoir since was cracked, an injector washer (started hissing) and a throttle body actuator recently. The engine itself is very capable and bulletproof but you need to keep an eye on it in time. Other thing: make a flush on water circuit system since is normal to slowly gain an acid PH on the circuit and that will corrode everything it touches.

@theriverthatflows98 Жыл бұрын
OM648 and even the OM642 are much more reliable than most of the TDI's in Audi/VW cars, especially the crappy 2nd gen 3.0 TDIs. For example, both the 648 and 642 use a duplex timing chain, whereas the TDI's use single chains, thus having much weaker resistance to streching and I'm not even talking about the more complex chain system of the TDIs. Furthermore, to change the chains, with both the OM648 and 642, you don't have to take out the engine + gearbox from the car. The 3.0 TDIs, both the 1st and 2nd gen, require the engine and gearbox to be taken out to service the chains (if I remember correctly, you can only change the top right tensioner in the TDIs, which is also a very common problem with the TDIs). The Mercedes is much more DIY friendly (sounds ironic, as Merc doesn't have this reputation after their legendary W124 era of unbreakable and easy to fix cars). The only major problem of the Merc engines (mostly the 642, not the 648) is the oil cooler gasket, which starts to leak at some point of the engine's life. It's a very cheap part but it requires quite a few hours of labour, but if you do it yourself - it's dirt cheap, the gasket is something like 15-20 euros from the Mercedes dealership. The injectors are the only place where these engines have similiar reliability, the Mercedes OM648 suffers from the injector o-ring problem (called the black death in the Merc community) but it's very easily and cheaply fixed, if it's not left abandoned for too long and a layer of black tar has not eaten up the injectors. Personally, I feel a lot of regret going from the OM642 to a 2nd gen 3.0 TDI. The merc engine, at 319k KM mileage hadn't had any major problems, apart from the alternator belt and all the pulleys needing to be replaced (a job costing around 300 euros, lasts a long time) and just the timely oil/filter changes. On other hand, my recently bought A5 with the 2d gen TDI, at 209k KM, is already having chain rattles at warm starts, which is very confusing, as I have always regarded the TDIs as reliable and well built engines. Maybe that was just a legacy of the mythical 1.9TDI, who knows...

@@yassinmak3743 no aluminium block v6 is better than an inline 6. I6 iron block superior to wrench on and smooth and can make more power reliable with upgrades of fuel system. Dont talk if you dont have a clue. om646-648 is the most reliable common rail engine there is from any european manufacturer just getting old and really only problem is injector hold down bolt there is not problem if you do it correctly my seal held 160k miles
