Man thank you so much for all these useful advices. This is the best review of this car I found on the internet. Now I finally know which engines it has. I have just one question. If I buy 320i with 150hp engine should I change the engine oil every 8000 km considering it has pretty strong engine for 2.0L, or it should be fine if I change it every 10000 km.

I absolutely LOVE my 2011 E90 328i with xDrive. It was one of the last E90s built (in late December of 2011, sold new in 2012) and has been well looked after. I purchased it last August with only 84,000 KM on it. It drives like nothing else. It is LEAGUES above my Mum's Jeep, my Dad's Mustang, and my Dad's F-150. It is also the best looking 3-Series, in my opinion. Nothing beats the silver exterior, black interior with woodgrain trim and iDrive. The only car that ever came close to my E90 was an E38 7-Series.

3 months in, e91 2.5 diesel M57TU2, changed all filters and fluids upon purchase, DPF was cut out, had a problem with keyless go and keyfob not working, fixed the wires (they tend to break in the boot on e91 models). So far an amazing vehicle, I got a great package, pretty much all the extras, gonna put in some LED angel eyes now and so forth :)

I had a 2008 330d manual and it was the best car I ever owned, shouldn't have sold it. The only problems I had during my 7 years and 50,000 miles of ownership were DPF ( probably due to doing too many short journeys ) and one of the front suspension springs failed on my driveway. Also the I-drive knob/unit had a soldering fault which was fixed by removing it (easy) and reflowing the solder ( easy ). Had the car re-mapped shortly after buying it and that added about 50bhp and 100nm, that was a brilliant upgrade and would strongly recommend it.

My experience with my E90 325D that I've owned since new in 2007 (not including issues down to my own stupidity): - DPF wouldn't regenerate @ 75k in 2013, too many short trips, had it mapped out in the end and still regularly passes MOT (2021). - Light clusters burn out and melt, lots of bulb failures front and rear. - Steering lock failed due to low battery voltage (didn't change battery for first ten years), new battery in 2017 = solved - Brake master cylinder needed reconditioning at 113k - New air blower last year At 151k miles as of Nov 2021. Regular yearly oil change and 3 year major servicing. Still pulls like a train, even in 6th. Some of the bodywork is starting to go, but only minor stuff. I love this car. It's clearly not the best or most powerful out there, but still a great drive that manages to put a smile on my face every time.

I have a 2008 e90 335i and here's my opinion. Replace motor mounts with SOLID rubber ones. Any type of fluid leak FIX, don't think "Eh it's not much I'll get to it eventually." Especially the oil filter housing gaskets. Buy replacement parts that have warranty, I had to replace the water pump twice due to bad gaskets on the pump warranty helped big time. Check the allignment, the rears will especially get eaten up fast if misalligned. To sum it up I would take it to a BMW certified (or reputable shop) to do a deep inspection also save a good $1500 on top of buying price for potential issues.

Very accurate weak points, only two to add for n52: accessory belt tensioner is poor causing poor belt tracking and the wires for sport mode transmission need to be removed from their bracket so they won't break. The expensive big ticket items on the n52 are reliable and they are a blast to drive. Steering feel and handling are a dream

@TheMrSencor 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaketrotman1011 in almost three years i've changed the water pump, accesory belt and some pullies (need to do this again without the waterpump, because it is still good), the alternator and rebuilt my starter motor, also changed the flywheel (got a refurbished one for 200euro) no electronic problems except for the tailgate wires keep breaking but that's a problem on my part I just soldered or tied them back up, for the third time ill buy new wires for the lenght of the bendy part. Lastly some weird issues my ground wire from the starter to the body corroded so i needed to change it (15e for a nice used one) and the rear shock obsorber cap that sits ontop in between some other stuff rusted and driving over a particulary bad road broke and the shock pushed through some rubber parts and started banging metal on metal, as a quick fix i just cut a nice round plate of a few milimiter thick steel and placed it where it rusted out (the edges of that "cap" were still good). My countries roads are quite rough so i needed to change some suspension parts, nothing major like 30 euro for a link or something several times. the glow plugs are quite annoying i had to change a couple almost every winter. All in all nothing major, and the stuff like the water pump is mentioned in the video. feel free to ask more

except for the flywheel thats honestly the only major repair i had to do, but it's naive to think that a flywheel can last almost 20 years. Forgot to mention my front right spring broke while driving and it shreded my tyre. And I do all the work myself or with my father so the repair costs are almost 0, i didnt bother with the water pump so a shop i know really well replaced everyting (pump some pulleys and belt) for approx 150 euro. since in three years i put about 82000 km on the car and its above 410000km on the odometer i'm thinking of a timing chain job. Changed the oil every 8-10k km.

Original battery lasted from 2009 to 2024. Changing all 6 injectors cost 4100 euros. 1 NOx sensor cost 670 euros.

I think these early BMW E90s are an absolute masterpiece, it will probably go down in history as one of the best BMWs ever built…I mean the ones with the small oval wing mirrors and the narrow sober taillights are simply gorgeous...Of all the 3 series, the design of the E90 is, in my opinion, the one that comes closest to perfection in terms of elegance, sobriety and character...Almost 20 years after its release, it is still a beautiful car with a very current design, really great...!

The main battery wire installation, you can see it from below the car it is located in the right side of the rear bumper, the wires get oxidized and rusty it looks really nasty and it can get your car on fire in some rare occasions, so better replace that kit. Talking about rust issues, inside edges of the rear bonnet, or doors they rust from inside rather than outside so check them out, you might notice rust there. Rear bonnet is especially "weak" in van models, the issues with rust, rear light contacts oxidizing, and very often rear window whipper getting stuck or rear window wont opening.. These are easy to fix or replace, not so expensive either. Some say the main engine chains get stretched over time and it can cause major damage to the engine, but personally I dont believe in those claims, well there might be some cases, but as far as history of these engines goes there were no such issues with older generation 3,0D engines of BMW. Really like the practical bits of this car. For example there is an opening in the plastic motor protector that is under the car, it is designed to make an oil change easier. You dont need to remove the whole protector which in many cases introduce a lot of problems with rusty screws etc.. The plastic interior parts take off easy and put in easy as well, the holder system for the plastic parts is very nice and durable, most of the cars have a plastic locks that break very fast, in this case the holder system is made of hole in the main panel and metal (probably aluminum) spike type holders, so you just need to pull out the part that you want to take off and just push it in when you need to place it in the right place. Very nicely done and holds pretty well. The back of the car is a little different and that is where the most of rattling sounds come from, because some of the parts there are designed with poor plastic holder systems, they break over time and those parts become loose.. Sound system is OK, could be better, if you want a good audio system in a car, you should consider buying Audi instead, most of them have a really good audio system in them, there are like 3 different levels and all of them sound pretty good. This car is fun to drive, it is fast, with light mods it can be really fast, it is responsive, the traction/stability control is very good, fuel economy is excellent for those power numbers, you get like 8ltr/100km while being able to do 0-100 in ~6s. The only thing I dont really like about it not enough space for things in the inside of the car.

The N57 also has problems with timing chain, harmonic balancer, cracked valve covers, high pressure fuel pumps which may emit metal particles (you can guess the consequences) and finally, mine also spun a bearing. There is a reason these engines are so expensive in the aftermarket compared to M57 - they just fail one way or the other and therefore the demand is high.

Needed to replace the valve stem seals, timingchain (€1500), carter, oil cooler gasket, had a coolant leak (€300), later valve cover gasket again (€200) 1 angel eye failed, replaced both (€70) headlight washer failed (€75) mid exhaust muffler had a rattle cost was about (€200) for a new. Other than that regular maintenance like brakes, oil changes, filters, tires, and did some optional things so won't count all of that. I'm the second owner and and the car used to be maintained bij bmw intervals (doing everything earlier now) if you buy one do it with guarantee and change the oil soon after, if they threw thick oil in it to hide leaking seals you will see it soon after an oil change (starts to smoke after idling)

We owners don't care about the maintenance, we do it and religiously. As for time all cars wear out, some more than others. But those who know take it with a grain of salt. We know these cars inside and out and are proud of them. Because those of us who know how to attend there girl know her inside and out, with great results in the long run. I have a e92 325i 2.5 160kW engine and it has been quite reliable in the 4 years I've owned it. The N52 is very smooth, however, it lacks torque and is a bit of a dog especially in a 1.5T car. (needs high revs to make serious progress) -- also my avg petrol consumption is 8.8l/100km. This is very characteristic of BMWs in general, they make all their power very high up in the RPM range, much more than other manufacturers I think. The car has various leaking gaskets, valve cover is next at a 150k kms. No problem with the water pump and thermo yet. This is a nice petrol engine, I recommend it and even more so, the 3.0 N52B30 with 190kW.

Very good remarks about the "weak" spots of the model. Potential buyers should not be too scared as they would probably see only a few or none of the issues actually. I would add one more thing - the wipers relay goes bad sometimes, but BMW has a replacement one for ~€12 which fixes the issue and you can replace it on your own for 5 minutes. The extras that you should be interested in are xenon lights, sport seats with lumbar support and heating (this is, to me, the most important extra, but many second-hand cars don't seem to have it), and definitely automatic gearbox. These + the factory sport suspension make an awesome drive even if under the bonnet is just a 2 litre diesel. A lot of buyers also want to have the nav unit, but I find it very outdated and not at all very useful, and the dash looks a bit strange with it. Overall, a huge step ahead of the previous model (E46) in terms of build quality and reliability, and all E90s have great brakes. If you get the automatic (which you should, it's great), you will lose circa 0.3 seconds in acceleration (for 2.0 diesel), but if it has been serviced properly, the gearbox will usually last a lot longer than a manual.

My 2009 e92 has had 2 misfires during my 9 months of owning it. First was a worn injector, second was a coil pack needed replacing. Though other than that, considering my car has done over 205900 miles, it runs and drives beautifully with none of the aforementioned faults. Really good car.

Main problem is the valvetronic, no mater you take care of the car and change oil it will fail between 90000 and 140000 km , oil leaks also pain , it leaks every where, owned many of them and always they have same problems, in fact , I am buying them because I almost can do all expensive fixing by myself and already both special timing tools for them , worst engine ever is N42/N46 , and true N52 is more far better , hope this will help someone to avoid those engines.

I love these videos and how they're unbiased. I'm really really really considering a e90 335D (deleted of course) and one thing i noticed he forgot to mention was the harmonic balancer is prone to deteriorate and cause you to loose your accessory belt and leave you stranded. I imagine adding it to your list of things to do on the waterpump interval would solve the problem...

New in Australia was $130,000 I paid $25,500 and the machine is like new. I plan to do my own maintenance since I have electronic background and have serviced my own Honda's for the last 15 years.I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you can do you own maintenance or can afford to pay $$$to BMW dealer.

Well, i have a facelifted e90 320i with 170hp from '08 for 3 years and 50k km so currently is at 208k km now so let me tell you what problems I did have from all the mentioned above: It's true about the peeling thing if you dont take care of it (even though mine isn't that bad of a problem). I did change the door handles because they were MELTED basically from the previous owner so I bought 15€ ones from AliExpress and they completely change the car quality. About the blower motor, that was painfully true until the recall from BMW and it has no problems now (car doesnt blow freezing air too when you set the lowest setting, but it's cool at least) My rear passenger lock has reciently failed so I need to fix that xdd that same door had a devastating leak and it was a nightmare, apparently the door had a crash or wasnt aligned properly so that was what solved the problem for 40€. About the engine, nothing major, I had to replace the 500€ nox sensor which improved a lot the car, but sometimes idle is sketchy, I still need to change the coils because is the only thing I havent changed and I think it would improve it if its not anything related to injectors. I cant see any leaks but above 6k rpm, it drinks oil. Overall the car feels amazing, rides phenomenally even with runflats, stays planted on the road and even at 200km/h it's very comfy and not very noisy. Let me know somebody any of your questions and if you want me to upload a review about my car. Dont cheap out on them and they will be a great value for money for a long time

Hey, I have a facelifted 2010 320i E92 170HP with 178k km in it. Only had it for a few months but after having misfiring issues I replaced all 4 x spark plugs, 4 x ignition coils and 2 x injectors, in addition I had to change the NOx sensor and I also had the air and pollen filter replaced for good measure. Is it worth keeping it? I currently have it up for sale as it did let me down twice but can’t make my mind up if I should hold onto it (or not).... thoughts on this?

@@peterzsoltnagy5628 @Péter Zsolt Nagy are you currently experiencing any problem now? Why did it let you down? Thing is once you invest time and money on them they seem quite good and reliable (it has never let me down on these 3 years even with all the repairs, done trips from Spain to Morocco effordlessly...) it's not a cheap car for sure, but I think it's great value for money.

Have 2005 320i with n46: 1. Had a dead O2 2. Had a dead VVT motor 3. Worn rear suspension control arm Oil usage is fine, doesn't leak, but as mine has done over 400000km, manual shifter bushing and steering bushing are worn. Beyond that nothing. The engine itself seems bulletproof, just the electronics around it can be unreliable. Even after this many km reaches its a top speed. Pro tip: Buy INPA scanner (K+DCAN). It will show the codes that the user has deleted. It's possible to get check engine 3 drive cycles are buying a car because the code is deleted and not fixed. The scanner should cost maybe 50Eur, will show you BMW specific diagnostics (unlike ELM327). This will also mean you can delete intermittent codes, run adaptation (for this 5min job repair shops sometimes take 80EUR) etc.etc. Would say this is a must if you do any DIY. Even if you don't you can bargain a lot more if you find a sneaky check engine before putting the money down. Not gonna lie 320i with 150PS is enough power for daily drives, overtaking on a highway, accelerating around the city. At 110kmph even after 400000km, I'm still doing 5.8L/100km, at 140kmph that's 8.2L/100km, if traffic in the city is hell I still never exceed 11L/100km, usually, it's 10.4. It's damn good for the money, but it's not that fun. Definitely better than some 2008 eco box, but I've driven an e46 330i and it's just more fun. If I could add that 50bhp, it would be perfect, but it's easier just to buy a 330i with an N52.

I used to own 2011 W204 c300 and 2011 E90 328i. I own 2012 E92 M3 ZCP and recently total-lossed 2015 f30 335i M-sport. The E90 328i was pretty fast, beating heavy V8's like dodge charger r/ts. It can even keep up with M3s. So yeah its a fast car and quick. The C300 feels quicker and feels like it has more torque but felt slower. I wouldn't recommend the C 300 because it's not as fun as the 328i. Reliabilty: I am amazed how well the quality is for the 328i. I have redlined it everyday and tossed it through corners. I didn't really do much maintenance on this car to be honest. Even if I didn't, BMW dealership technicians said my car was very healthy and I was surprised that it was. I even banged a couple chicks AT ONCE in high school. Anyways, If you're looking for an E90 328i, get a 2009 or higher. I'd say look for the M sport pack if you want it to look sportier. The sport line looks hella stock. Personally, I am looking for a 2011 E90 335i with M sport. Hard to find SMH.

stubones Yes the car was in great shape, and had good service history. It looked the shit, and drove like shit(sometimes) maybe the diesel is more reliable providing its not the newer model. just dont buy anything with a n52b25 in it. I had a bad experience sure, but mine matches up to common faults experienced by others also. 120k on the diesel is nothing. i had 150k miles on mine. The diesel has a belt driven water pump so no issues there, watch those rear wheel bearings and EGR cooler on the 320d.
