OK so not every session works out the way you plan. jeeez I prove that to myself over and over. but I still get stoked when I see certain FX with big waves. I want so badly to unleash the potential of that HA580. I know it shreds. I've seen just a glimmer of what it can do. I've since dreamed about it multiple times. so I was so stoked going into this potentially SICK sesh... I know better, but I couldn't help it. and guess what happened...?
gear ridden this sesh:
75L v1 Armie FG board
HA580 foil
795 HM mast, 10 in track
60 fuse
205 surf stab (red & blue shims)
4.5m v3 F-One STRIKE wing
5:4 Mahulu Stormrider wetsuit
Kaohi double coil grip leash & padded belt
Solite 8mm Custom 2.0 booties

Definitely had the gnar experience, not winging, but SUP foiling at head high Jalama in central CA coast. Every wave foiled without carnage was ultimate success. Unfortunately there were many that weren’t, along with some knots, bruises, and sore body parts. Session was over when I stared bleeding from an impact. Glad to see you charging it still, don’t believe I’d go out in those conditions anymore.

dude! sounds like a crazy sesh! honestly I only like to foil SUP in 5ft or less - even 5 ft feels too big but the waves are easier. I still need a lot more practice in that dept. so sick you were getting out there in that thought! I just had a sesh Saturday and my body is still feeling the trauma. I slammed mt ass on my board's rail so hard I still cannot really sit comfortably. a little blood, large black and blues... but man I was stoked on that sesh!! every time you push the limits and get out of your comfort zone, you learn a lot. so here's to charging it! thanks bud, I wish you an awesome rest of your week!

Well done out there, takes a lot of cojones 😂!! Curious what shims and mast position you are running with the 205 and 580? I had a bit of a shocker trying the 205 and blue shim, but I think it was too far forward for the lack of shim. I then had a great session with the 180 stab and no shim, but it was flat water. The 580 is insane! Quickest rail to rail I think I’ve felt yet.

sup bud! OK I'm riding the old FG board, 77kg. all my older Armstrong foils I ride at 8, these I'm riding at 10 and it seems pretty balanced with my stance, which is a little narrow. I always use a red and blue shim. I finally found out the 140/180/220 are -2 degrees but I'm not sure what the front wings are (I just emailed them asking). 580 is so rad! I love it. another 2 sessions this weekend, this time with the 140 and I'm SO STOKED!! super cool foil, no regrets buying it. I'm not sure I need the 680... but haven't done a back-to-back yet. hope all is well bud! I wish you an awesome week!

lol you got that right! yeah I avoid those areas but this day was hard to predict... sometimes they break in like 4 different areas once they get really big, but this day they more disjointed and were breaking everywhere. craziness! luckily these HAs are pretty good at keeping lift in the whitewater. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!!

hey thanks so much bud! we are here in Boston and surrounding areas (Cape Cod and Rhode Island). I'm so jealous of the swells and conditions y'all get out there. it must be so cool to see that so often. we only get a handful of big wave days in a year so I gotta hit them if I can and just hope they go as well as they do in my dreams! thanks again and I wish you an awesome weekend!!

Is it possible to pump the 580 at all flagging the wing on wind swell? I like the pump/glide of my 780 and in conditions I don't need to pump/glide I grab the 800. There is no limit to how hard I can roll/bank turns on the 800 so what's the advantage of the 580 over the 800? Lots of hype about the 580 but yea if it's possible to pump and connect bump then that would be game changer
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 3 ай бұрын
sup bud! I feel like the 800 is not a pumper at all, I love it when waves are big and fast. the 580 pumps smaller than the 780, but it pumps! lower lift and lower stall speed. like I feel like it's stall speed is better than the 1000. I'm so anti-hype and try hard to see through it all, but the 580 is a great foil. the 800 may have a little more speed but almost everything else with the 580 makes it my choice. jumping is a little different, both the pop and re-entry. but I think I can live with it enough to get rid of the 1000 but I may keep the 800 for like racing and whatnot. if you like the 780, you will like the 580. I can't guarantee you will replace the 800 but the 580 is certainly different enough to have in your quiver. it's all I wanna ride, and I can ride it in so many more conditions than the 800. 77kg here.

COOL - During the first part was already wondering how did you get the pictures as your gopro ws gone in the last secuences of the session- Would like to ask something I have been wondering always .. a) the impact in the wave is not hard in the mouth ? with the go pro? b) you are switching all the time between mouth and hand , and somethimes you fall due to that .. but I keep up filming.. I would jus stop filming and be annoyed😕..... Thanks that you keep filming 😊..

sup bud! I swear I already answered this, my bad for leaving you hanging! so I prefer my gopro in my mouth during a sesh vs not having one cause it acts as a mouth guard. I swear I've taken some huge hits to my mouth before and if it wasn't for that I'd have some chipped or broken teeth. in a recent sesh, I had it out of my mouth and fell and I bit a big holes in my cheek from teh impact. if it was IN my mouth, that wouldn't have happened. that said, it could break and maybe slice me, but I've gone through maybe a dozen of these mounts in the past 3 years and that hasn't happened. so fingers crossed but I think the pros outweigh the cons. and yeah, my gopro is a HUGE factor to me messing up. y'all dont get to see the various ways it gets me into trouble, and I'd be such a better rider if I didn't use one and wasn't trying to get all different angles. it's annoying but I've loooong since accepted it as a required part of my experience. as always, thanks bud and I wish you an awesome rest of your week!

FInishing the video now.. was thinking you were on the edge of your comfort level just with the waves, but when you add that you have gear in your mouth and hooked up etc, fear for losing it as well :) - i have a insta 360 and need to bring it out in alaska a bit more. Cheers

lol yeah bud there's a lot going on! I'm kinda on autopilot in ways, but the camera makes me a sloppier rider and def adds a danger factor. whether it's dropping them or adjusting them mid-sesh or getting leashes wrapped around them or mounts getting torn off (2 sessions ago, x2 mounts broke during one sesh)... it def adds a x-factor to my session. that said, how do you like the insta? where do you mount it? my curiosity continues to build on these and I keep thinking about how it would change my angles but also add to my editing workflow. my editing time is so limited, it would be a big disruption to my process. but that's not always a bad thing! thanks bud, I wish you an awesome Alaskan day!

@@OCEANBOUND1 I like it a lot.. from what i understand they are coming out with a new camera soon.. not sure if it will be same 360 view.. I only know the editing software for it, not other programs, but i have been told that it is better than go pro for editing 360 camera content. Options to do on PC, pad, or phone. I mount it generally on a selfie stick to the back handle on my wing and extend it out a bit.. seems to work pretty good but full extension scares me a little. My biggest hangup is learning the editing software.. need to do that so i can post some alaska stuff. But when it is most extreme here, and it gets extreme, i am a little reluctant to add the camera and selfie stick to the equation.. My friend mounts his usually the way i do, but also on a backpack style mount as well as on a helmet. I think it shows a lot of skill that you can do what you do and be swapping positions etc with the camera while winging..

thanks bud, truly appreciated. I totally agree, they def keep a decent amount of lift and control in the whitewater. I tr to stay out of those areas anyway but it's nice to not have to worry about it as much. I'm stoked on these for sure, really matching my current riding style. I wish you an awesome day my monkey friend!

It would stay attached to the wing in those conditions?
@awareness556
@awareness556 3 ай бұрын
@@mcplaayerIt looks very secure in the reviews. The wing would have to deflate for it to fail. It comes with a leash in case that happens. I was mostly suggesting it as a better camera angle than board or mouth mount.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 3 ай бұрын
@nhfoiler8477 right on bud! I have one of their earlier mounts, and it makes the wings unusable in any type of challenging conditions since the balance is so off, that I may be forever turned off on something adding weight on the end of the wing. maybe on the strut. I get that these are lighter, but when it comes to drifting on a wave with a Strike that already kinda sucks at drifting with a heavy trailing edge... I'm not really into experimenting on a day like this. that said the insta 360 cameras are appealing to me mounted on the strut. if I can get them to send me one... I'll totally add that angle (though not stoked on the change to my editing workflow :P)
