Killer rip on the 85, used to sail Lanier 30 years ago on a H16. Quit work anytime the wind blew. In Oklahoma now, we got some wind.. got another 85 H16 this year, terrorizing the waters again at Lake Meredith. Only sailboat there. We're learning a ton from your videos. Thanks man, you're welcome here anytime

I went to buy an old H-16 a few months ago, I was on a budget and was offered a 1976 Blue hulled a Tequila Sunrise boat for a good price. I drove 3 hours and found an original owner fully covered and stored indoors! the boat had great upgrades and a nice trailer. The owner GAVE it to me!!!!!!! I am about to replace all the rigging and ready for summer!

Bought my Hobie 16 in 1972. Sail # 1959 ! Lime Green hulls, Regatta Blue decks, light blue trampoline. White sails . Christiansen rudder blades unbreakable. I installed a main roller traveler and remote jib traveler control. Dual trapeze setup. I single handed it a lot . Sold it for more than I bought it for in 1977. Bought a Tornado 20 that year .

Looked like it sailed great, good job reversing it to the “beach”, rudder blades up . I’m going to do floatplane training, same concept .

Nothing on the internet can compare to sailing a Hobie 16 in a strong wind. That goes for windsurfing too. Lots of young people don't know what they are missing.

Back in Greece look up Lake Feneos Doxa .its in the mountains behind Zilocastro .A reservoir surrounded by mountains . Went up there with my Laser and all the other Lasers and Optimists from Kiato Sailing club one Easter . The wind came from nowhere then disappeared, then hit you from 180 degrees to previously 😂talk about throwing you out of sorts!

Love your channel! My dad and I owned the 18th 16’ ever made ! We raced it in Fleet 1 in Dana Point. I remember one time when Hobie Alter saw it, he chuckled and said that it was extra heavy because they were still trying to figure out how much glass to use (or something like that)….. I guess that’s why it always seemed slower than the other boats. Hull was blue and yellow with solid white sails and a sewn on 18. Hull was actually stamped “16” on the upright holding the trampoline…. We had a great time with it, good memories. 1982-ish if I recall correctly.

Looking at getting a cat. One uncle has a blue hulled Hobie 16 with tequila sunrise sails, and dual trapeze. Another uncle has a 1988 Tornado 20 with dual trapeze. Both have trailers. My only issue is im 295lbs and ill be doing the majority of sailing with a second person. Which would be the better boat? Im leaning towards the Tornado.
