There's a fella I watch from my part of North Dakota, who researches historic sites to dig the privvy holes. He gets down pretty deep & pulls out pieces of regional/historical history as well. Bottles, broken dishes, lamps, chamber pots, etc. Part of his tool kit includes a sturdy stick, plastic scoop, & bucket to haul out the dirt. He always has a spotter, for safety & to assist with filming. Most of his finds he donates to local historical societies, he keeps some of the special finds, & tosses the rest back in the hole. In most cases, he even seeds the site with grass seed!---I feel so sad when doll heads come up, thinking of the little girl who loses her dolly. ---Great fun with your friend! And of course the accents!

good afternoon, when I was about 16 years old you went to work during the holidays to earn some money(holiday job) I also worked in a graveyard and also had to dig graves 2 meters deep. Hi Kyle, we were back there today. Had up all sorts. It’s definitely a case of digging deep there. The tip is almost completely dug, but when you get down to about 6 foot it comes alive. 🙂

@@dirtysecretsofscotland I agree, you need to dig ridiculously deep to get anything good 😂 Having said that, my rare whiskey flask was found about a foot underground, and a friend found a pot lid about 3 or 4 foot down!

He walks, he digs... What do you do with the stuff you find that you don't keep and don't sell?

Ha! Yes he does! Re finds, it all depends on the landowner... some insist one everything being removed, in which case we dispose of the broken and unwanted items responsibly. Otherwise, we place the unbroken items back into the ground and gently cover it over for a future digger to find. Willie :)

Dear Willie! Do you have any access to „LiDAR“ maps of the areas you search for new dumps? Basically LiDAR shows you the bare surface (e.g. without threes) in 3D. My (Ex-)boyfriend used this tool for his archaeological work. It might take some time to learn how to interpret what you see, but I am pretty sure that you and Sarah won’t have problems with this - artists are able to „see“ things differently than others. I would wish this little hint drives you forwards (and this unhealthy relationship with this guy had a second use). Good luck and keep on going disclosing more dirty secrets of Scotland!! Tini
@dirtysecretsofscotland2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tini, very kind of you. Unfortunately LiDAR doesn’t yet cover Scotland. I have looked at it before over England though. Hopefully it’ll cover here soon too. Very good of you to make this suggestion though. Willie 🙂
@christinabohlmann92702 жыл бұрын
@@dirtysecretsofscotland OMG! You answered me 🤩! Regularly I don’t comment, because everybody comments the same and it takes me a while to write in English which is not my mothers tongue. I am from Germany. But as I saw you showing different maps side by side I thought by myself: the LiDAR map is missing! nobody else seems to miss it. That’s why I tried to be brave and told you. It’s a pitty that there are currently no LiDAR maps available. Could you imagine what could be discovered with this 60 years old technique- besides old dumps 🤣- in GB with its amazing history, hidden under trees?! Hopefully it’s available soon. This is going to change the archaeological and advanced mudlarking world. There is no need to answer me again- I am sure you have enough to do! I am very happy that you already did and that you took me seriously! My best regards to Sarah and keep on going!
