Hi Dawn! You have really given us a comprehensive tutorial on dahlias. I haven’t had any experience with gall (good thing) but through your illustration, think I now would recognize it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, as being gardeners, there is always something to learn..

Thank you. I appreciate you discussing saving dahlias on a smaller scale as many home gardeners only have space for a few of their favorites. I live in Zone 7 so I might try storing some and leaving some in the ground. Look forward to seeing your dahlias next spring. 😄

This was very helpful. I live in 6b. I don’t have a green house structure but I do have one of those zip up greenhouse towers. Do you know if I could leave started potted dahlias in it starting in March/April? I would like to start earlier this year. I have been putting them right in the ground to date.

Glad it was helpful! As long as the temperature is 60° in your greenhouse. The answer is yes you can start them in there in April. Your other option is to put them in the greenhouse on a heat mat set at a temperature between 60 and 70°.

Perfect! Thank you!…I was wondering if there is anything that can be put in the soil to kill Agrobacterium Tumefaciens? Especially in the winter months. I noticed it on my golden euonymus in two places last year- cut the whole stems off- did fertilize soil- nothing this year- everything I’ve read says the plant will eventually die. From your research is this just a wait & see situation?

Hi Melanie! From what I have read completely eradicating Agrobacterium from soil is very difficult, the most effective method to manage its presence is through prevention and sanitation practices, including removing and destroying infected plants, disinfecting tools, and using biological control agents like the K-84 strain of Agrobacterium tumefaciens (which competes with the pathogenic strain) when planting susceptible plants; in some cases, soil solarization or steam sterilization may be necessary for heavily contaminated areas. I am not an expert in this and hope your case and mine are isolated.

@@SeasonalDesignsbyDawnThank you for that quick response ! I’m going to look further into this . I’m sure you like myself don’t want to have to rearrange or destroy my garden ( that euonymus is 15 years old and is otherwise going very well). Yet sometimes life has other plans 🥴
