Once we started digging into the dirt here we realized it was loaded with all kinds of artifacts from the 1800s. We were metal detecting today and found this cellar hole where we didn't expect it and started swinging. we noticed that the ground all around the caved in foundation was loaded with glass shards and other metal objects so we started digging a pit. Old bottles, tools, crocks, jars metal straps and some good finds too. This old site has been deserted well over 100 years and the stuff was buried in the ground pretty deep.

8:40 mica sheets for heat related applications, oven temp gauges ect, some produced by the Palermo mine in Groton NH. They employed many folks as "cutters" back in the day.

Mica sheets. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw them. But given the fact that most of the relics they are finding at that location appear to be 1920ish, I'm wondering if they are in fact Mica sheets. Let's take the hoe and the drill as examples. The pin style connection of the hoe blade to the handle is the same as the ones you buy today. If the clear sheets are made of mica, they would shatter into flakes if they're bent in half. If it's some early type of plastic, it will simply crack into two pieces.

Those square things almost look like mica or eisenglass used for the windows on wood stoves. The amount of them is bizarre though.🤔

Clearly mica, but the huge number of pieces makes me think this has something to do with motor rewinding- it was historically used for things like commutator insulation.

They ARE mica. My grandmother worked for years at Mccallans in Newmarket and she used to shellac sheets of mica together, among other things. They were used for a lot of things….insulators in toasters, lenses in lanterns…

I love it when you do this. It reminds when you did this at the swimming hole cellar hole. You never know what you will find. Those rectangular things you found remind me of lithograph photo sheets they used for printing in newspapers. They would take photos on them first. Only you would find that Waynos haha that's gold!!!

That cobalt blue bottle is a crier! Unfortunately you're missing the top part which would have the company name (either Caswell Mack, Caswell Hazard, or Hazard Hazard & Co.). I'm guessing it is one of the first two and probably dates from the 1860s-early 1880s.

I agree with others. Your "glass" squares are made of mica and would be used on stoves as a window to see inside. They should be flakey and split apart even further. Don't know why they would have all those though.
