I dig water meter pits and best advice dig using a larger shovel small shovels only when you get about 5 to 6 foot deep .. always use a shovel with large foot ramps for better comfort

I normally start with a pick mattock to loosen up the dirt so it's much easier for me or a partner to shovel out the dirt. Of course, I try to always let the mattock's own weight do most of the work. The mattock is especially handy when you're digging up dirt that has already been compacted down!

@@balkanplumbing i think you should use longer shovel, this man have too short. If he have longer he can more work with his forearms and biceps and don't need to lean that much like on video

Any advice for clay?
@balkanplumbing Жыл бұрын
No quick and all inclusive answer. Soil types vary greatly. Soft clay is easy to dig as it holds together nicely on the shovel. Hard clay is almost like digging up a weak concrete mix; tough digging requiring a lot of loosening with a digging bar.

If there are no defined parameters, there cannot be a defined time required to dig the hole.

Great tool. But we typically work in relatively confined spaces. I’m afraid of injuries. But, a great tool nonetheless.
