So glad that you guys have a neighborhood you love. That's so important. I grew up in a cul-de-sac with 18 kids among 8 families. The outdoor play and social interaction were magical and I'm so grateful I was able to grow up in an environment like that! You are preserving something very special and important for your kids, even if they don't know it yet.

I can't say enough how much I LOVE your kindness reminders that you have (saw one on your wall and in the yard). Kindness is so important it can literally save a life. Again thank you for the laughs and cherish those precious babies

This comment will probably be lost among the others but I just wanted to say that I love how much you both love your kids and everything you do for t hem. I don't have kids but I had a crappy childhood and seeing how much love your family has for each other warms my heart. Also totally agree that renovating was definitely the right call. Your kids will have so many wonderful memories growing up in that neighborhood and all the blood, sweat, tears, and dollars spent are worth that.

Love that you are renovating instead of moving! My parents made the same decision (with the 4th kid!)... I grew up on a street with 54 kids! It was a great childhood, and I so appreciate that they didn't move us 'up'! You go! This will be fun!

You made a wise decision! Not only would you miss your neighbors, but they would all miss you guys A LOT!!! You have created one big family in the neighborhood and all the fun times and memories will always be a part of the entire neighborhood. Your children will have the best memories when they are adults reminiscing about…remember when we… ! Can’t wait to see the new addition when it’s all done. Enjoy these times and continue to be blessed! 🙏🏼😎❤️

I love it! When I was a kid, my parents were CONSTANTLY remodelling and adding on to our house. I thought it was just normal to live with sawdust LOL. But seriously, they over doubled the square footage of their house from when I was a kid... and I always thought it was SO COOL, and I learned a lot just from watching them design and build things. You get a home you love, in a location you love, and your kids get a cool experience & even cooler house!! All sounds WAY better than moving to me! :) Good luck with everything!

The video inspired my husband and I to pursue getting our house rezoned to add a mother-in-law suite with our retirement. It will solve our issues of space with four growing kids and be a rental as our retirement investment. We can’t afford to move. Taking fines on our current 401(k) isn’t logical for 95% of people, but I am in my 30’s with six people in this house, a kitchen that is smaller and less functional than most tiny home builds (we have to keep food and cooking supplies in the unfinished basement) and 6 people with one one bath/shower and no master bedroom is worth the risk. We only have 10 years left on our mortgage. We are locked in at a good interest rate after we refinanced after 15 years from a 30 to a 15 year(paying fines for that too), we don’t have liquid money, but sometimes you have to see the money you have tied up, that could be a car that could be lots of things and figure out a better way to invest what your already investing. And I know there are people who aren’t investing yet, that’s probably the first start. If you’re in business for yourself and not making a lot of money right now, but have potential in the future consider a Roth IRA, and most of all just stay out of debt, no one should ever buy optional things like entertainment, fast food, or coffee on a credit card, those people are making the poor choices that lead to being poor. As Dave Ramsey says, some people need to learn how to eat beans and rice. We did our beans and rice years, now we can fix the problem of the humble house I bought at 20. Our family has never made a lot of money, but remember even Dude Dad is WORKING for this, it’s an investment, no not a rental like our idea, it’s his comedy and building gift turned into entertainment as he doesn’t just remodel a house because he has money he does this to make money by putting his efforts online. Even when I was pregnant at 20, that was the perfect time for me to start a business where I got certified to teach mommy and me classes, think about it, there’s always solutions, don’t just think about it, actually pray and God will help you find them. Most often as you rest like being on KZbin. 💕

Congratulations on your next big step in renovating your house. I am saying this because you both have worked so hard and should be proud to be able to afford a renovation addition. Your reason to stay made me shed a tear. Living on a cul-de-sac is irreplaceable, and an incredible space for children to play. I grew up living on one, and when my husband and I moved 9 years ago to our current house, it was the only thing not check off on our list. We sacrificed this and I deeply regret it. You can change the bones of any house, but not the neighbourhood. You are so blessed with such a friendly community, especially in this day and age when it is the norm not to know your own neighbour. For this reason, no one should give you grief on the decision you made. We want to move to a better neighbourhood to give our children a better childhood and even though we are finally paying off our mortgage after all these years (at the end of this quarter) we are considering carrying another mortgage for a better neighbourhood and childhood for our kids. This would mean us likely having to delay retirement another 5 years each with how much houses are now compared to 9 years ago. We also did not know we would have 5 kids, and we moved in when we had just 2. The friendship of neighbours is irreplaceable and such a gift! Thank you for inspiring others to be a cul-de-sac king and a good neighbour. Congratulations again. (PS loved your live show.)

I definitely understand the need for more space/storage. We’re a family of 6 too and for 20 years we lived in 1100 sq feet. During Covid we were finally able to finish our basement so that doubled our living space. We still need to make a bathroom downstairs. I’d love to build an addition onto our house, our kitchen/dinning room is a bit cramped. Maybe one day!

100% with you on the neighbors! We left our old house for a new build, that is much larger. But we found that we miss our old neighbors tremendously. Yes, we have connected with some of our new neighbors but unfortunately, we have not been able to connect with some of our next door neighbors. I mention this because of the outside movie towards the end of the video. We used to do that with 6 or so neighbors. Now we have to deal with our new neighbors complaining, even when the sound is off. UGH!!!

I do not think you are crazy! I really appreciate that you're documenting this journey, showing that it's doable, and that add-ons are realistic. We've been saving for a house, but it has been difficult because starter houses are difficult to find now that houses have gotten bigger. Getting a starter house and adding on later is much more realistic for some people than an outrageous mortgage.
